Just some feedback, but I really feel like exploring the Super Adventure Box is a lot more engaging than exploring the open world. And that is not to bash the devs who work so hard, but I hope they look at the SAB when designing future content.
1. The player is rewarded for exploring. Shop locations, chests, shortcut worms, baubbles, etc…
2. Monsters fights take more brains than Open World. This is ironic because Open World PvE makes use of all sorts of unique mechanics and builds, but when you get right down to it, Open World PvE is 100b or 1spamming in a can for Warriors while soaking up damage. Whereas the knockback nature of SAB and projectile-based attacks means we must approach each foe differently because we cannot afford to get hit. Foes in SAB prioritize actually moving to dodge their attacks rather than reflex dodge rolling. There for, they have much more complexity than Risen Putrifier.
3. It’s instanced and foes do not respawn. I cannot stress this enough, but respawning foes in open world pve takes away my incentive to explore because I’m constantly fighting.
4. Unique exploration mechanics. Falling platforms, trampoline mushrooms, poison water, and so on.
5. The constant feeling of risk and danger. While it’s true most JPs in Open World PvE give us 1 chance or we fail, the SAB better captures the intense feelings of risk and danger because it pressures us with pits of death, floating platforms, etc… and a limited amount of lives or we start all over rather than some midpoint.
7. Non-linearity. You aren’t just doing a JP when playing SAB. It lets us find different ways to complete the level.
8. The overall puzzles are designed very well and make us use our brain. Perhaps this is because of its instanced nature so we do not see other players jumping as well, but they’re just overall designed better.
Anyways, that’s just my feedback. I feel SAB is more engaging than open world PvE.
