Just thought I’d share how extremely pleased I am with how SAB was incorporated into the story and lore of GW2—Moto’s backstory, how the SAB reward items are for his ‘fundraiser,’ etc.—instead of just being a non sequitur minigame. Awesome work.

When I first thought of the idea of an 8-bit jumping puzzle dungeon the very next thought I had was: How does this fit into GW2? Asuran tech was a no-brainer, but thinking of the Why question took me a little bit. When I was a kid my mom saw my game addiction and kept trying to make me play educational games, so I thought that would be the perfect flavor to give it. Asurans are all about education…. and competition. It’s the perfect match.

What interests me is that Moto seems to take a small interest in ‘’An Adventure Box in every Tyrian household’’ when he has the conversation with a human.

Something that might get added in your personal home instance?

Anet does need to do more with home instances.

That actually made me think about a variety of Philip K. Dee-Eye-See-Kay stories, where aliens invaded the earth by cornering the market in children’s games — that seems more like how Asurans would take over the world. Educating asura children? sure. Educating human children? only if that made things better for Rata Sum.

Is it even possible to have a instance inside another instance?

I just adore how positive comments get anets devs to reply.

The balance team is chained to SPVP, and the PVE team is all about producing carnivals

I don’t think the Things To Improve thread would be so large if we were afraid of negative comments.

Well since OOP works via the use of instances, I’m going to go with a yes.

(OOP = Object Oriented Programming and I am fairly certain that is the style that this game runs on)

Although i did quite enjoy SAB for a few hours, i think Arena net need to focus on improving what’s already in the game instead of adding these little events and stuff that last a few weeks which quite frankly no one even asked for.

Yes, adding new fun content is good, but not when the rest of the game still needs work, i hear loads of people saying what they think needs fixing and improving, and not once have i ever heared someone say, it would be cool if they added some old style mini game event.

Same with flame and frost events, they add a few minutes of extra gameplay to the game, which to me is not as important as improving dungeons (the core of any MMO for me)

Just my thoughts.

You are assuming that they only have those few people working on the game though.
Which has been stated quiet a few time to not be the case.

The few people that have worked on F&F and SAB are not the same people that works on new features, bugs, security, animation, jumping puzzles, balancing and so on.

Well you clearly are afraid of negative comments if I can receive this from a mod:

Posts that are rude, condescending, and/or inflammatory are not allowed. While it may not have been your intention to come across as such, please be careful to avoid accidentally offending anyone in the future. Be aware the nuances and intent of verbal messages are often lost in the written word.

I like how the last sentence contradicts the whole point of the infraction lol. They state that they might not know what I’m talking about, but they’re still going to punish me anyways. Zzzz… GMs clearly just like to drop the ban hammer.

I’m Chief and I approve of this message. The way the SAB was incorporated fits perfectly and doesn’t damage the world of Tyria geographically, nor lore wise.

But please no more ‘Collect all baubles’ achievements for the next levels in future patches

In addition, I do agree that some other aspects of the game could use a bit of tender loving care, such as Southsun Cove. Make some new heart quests there that deal with the Karka-Consortium business a bit more perhaps. Or some additional dynamic events, would also be nice.

That does not say they are “afraid of negative comments”. Nor does anything in there contradict. It says they want people to be aware that posting rude or inflammatory comments is not allowed. And that while it may not have been your intention to come across that way, intent does not matter as much as content when it comes to text on a forum. They may not know your intent, so can only judge based on what is written.

That said, it is also frowned upon to discuss forum moderation. You should contact them directly if you think something was done in error.

If you have negative feedback for anything, including the SAB, please feel free to post it, but do so in a civil manner. Negative does not have to mean rude. Thanks!

I am hoping that with the refugee situation tying in to Southsun, we might see some activity therefollowing the next Flame & Frost update.

When I first thought of the idea of an 8-bit jumping puzzle dungeon the very next thought I had was: How does this fit into GW2?

GW2 is a very pretty game, graphic wise. And then someone runs through with 8-bit graphic on their back.

A pity you didn’t ask the question ‘how does 8-bit weapon skins fit into GW2 graphics. Cause then you would have answered that question ’it really doesn’t fit at all’ and would not have done it.

Apperently ANet wanted to get new content out cheap, and this is the result: you see 8-bit stuff all over the game now.

If you would have kept this 8-bit graphics into the SAB, that would be ok. But now everyone has to look at it.

Actually, we iterated on the weapon skins a LOT to make sure that they fit the world. Obviously some people’s definition of ‘fit the world’ is not some other people’s. But if you look at someone decked out in SAB skins next to a holographic flower or in the crafting area of Rata Sum they don’t contrast at all. Asura have holographic tech. Moto used it for weapons and pets.

This.

Once I saw the SAB skins, it made me not only work to get them, but I went ahead and purchased a mix of Tier 2 and Tier 3 Asuran Cultural Armor for my Warrior, because it all fit together so splendidly.

Holographic tech (especially “8-Bit” holographic tech) may not be your cup of tea, but it doesn’t irk me any more than seeing a Charr running around in leaf-clad Twilight Arbor armor. Tyria a big world, with lots of cultural influences, and sooner or later those influences are going to bleed into one another.
