Q:
This has reminded of the following games in no particular order:
Zeliard, Sorcerian, Golden Axe, Double Dragon, Willow (the Arcade version), Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow over Mystara, Dungeons and Dragons: Tower of Doom, Gauntlet (all versions).
I will add more if and when I can recall more.

Guardians of the Sunshine
For me, the music is very Rygar (NES).
Stage 2 is pretty reminiscent of the final stage of Banjo-Kazooie.
The “mine cart” bonus zone of World 1 reminds me of the bonus level on Street Fighter 2 where you had to smash up the car

Yes! That was the first thing that came to mind when I started breaking the cart into little pieces.
Some of the music reminded me of Sonic the Hedgehog, actually.
In case no one caught it, I was being sarcastic and was actually referring to GW2 core.
Guess the joke is on me since April Fool’s Day has long expired.
The raft ride down the river reminds me of FF6 when you take the raft down the river and fight enemies all the way down
Among other things, it reminded me of Croc. That adorable little bugger
It has reminded me of a lot of old games but the one what surprised me the most was the zone 2 music. Reminded me of this old friend’s music.

The bonus stage gives me fond memories of Street Fighter 2. Spent way too much time playing that back in the day.
The monkeys that throw coconuts at you remind me of the monkeys in sonic the hedgehog.
it doesn’t help that they are just as annoying.
Crocodiles and the whip remind me of pit fall. Course I guess you don’t “need” to use the whip on them but I do =p
Neutopia and Legend of Zelda mostly. XD Though the first zone has more of a Mario feel than the others so far.
Castlevania ( the whip), Super Mario (general with the sound when picking up baubles, dropping bridgeplanks etc.), Legend of Zelda (all the pot smashing, stick fighting etc.), Banjo and Kazooie (the backpack on crocodiles and the enviroment).
The pointing hands remind me of that game where you were a coin on a beach collecting other coins. Also that shopkeeper reminds me of some game, don´t know which (or maybe I have just seen him so much he has become familiar ^^).

World 1 Zone 2 reminds me of Wizards and Warriors both musically and content-wise with all of those hollow trees.
Oddly enough, while trying to suggest to friends it compares to a Mario 64/Zelda cross, I felt like a much better description of it was Mystal Ninja Starring Goemon on the n64. But nobody ever knows what I’m talking about when I say that; I guess I’m the only one who ever played that game D=
Well the obvious Mario/Zelda, but it reminds me of Bionic Commando (the baoubbles) and the music reminds me of Crystalis. Its kinda making me want to go play some old school games, even though I got a backlog of new games.
For me the obvious Zelda and Mario.
In addition to that, I am reminded a lot of Donkey Kong and Sonic the Hedgehog
The music in Zone 2 sounds like the music from one of the NES Castlevania games.
One of the hidden areas also sounds like Mario Bros 1 when you go underground. It’s the hidden area with the two water geysers you have to jump.
Mario64 and Zelda NES.
Hmm.
Golden Axe: The between-stage map reminds me much of the map from that game.
Ghouls and Ghosts: Watch the opening of those games, then watch the opening of this one. Tell me there’s no comparison.
Dragon Quest / Warrior: So your first weapon is a trusty POINTY STICK. First and weakest weapon in DQ1 is a Bamboo Rod. Even weaker than the club.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Of all the incarnations of Zelda, it’s this one which is brought to mind the most.
Castlevania: Too bad the whip never picked up stuff in that game.
Ratchet and Clank: Crazy platforming in third person where you only take a limited amount of hits. Sounds similar to this.
Legend of Zelda,Warioland,Dragon Quest, reminds me Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga for some reasons… maybe the kidnapping? lolol
The intro scene reminds me of ghost and goblins
