AR spam fest and colorblind.
You know mate I am not colorblind.
But the cannon shots are pretty hard to see on that colored floor sometimes…
Also the new AoE circle animation is less noticeable for me somehow. :\
hope they will do something about dis.
This has nothing to do with your colorblindness, though. You’re linking two things that don’t correlate.
The only part that would make sense for being colorblind is the cannon barrage in the last fight, but even that is slightly darker than allied circles (I’m red-green color blind) because it’s red.
Since when have pets ever been meant to stay alive during dungeons?
It seems like your problem lies within ranger pets in dungeons in general, and also not being able to see/time AoE’s.
If you’re talking about the Frizz fight, there are just these giant laser walls that don’t have anything to do with color, they have things to do with depth perception on a 2d plane.
If you’re talking about trash mobs, stand behind your group… you get a better vantage point. If you’re going in melee, you need to go in prepared to get hit.
If you’re talking about Mai/Horrik, EVERYTHING in this fight is well-depicted. They all have very obvious, slow animations.
I know how to keep my pets alive, but for example in the Frizz fight pets can’t get on the crates to avoid the laserbeam thus killing them.
Trashmobs are not a problem, I can deal with them easily. But the mortar barrage and Horrics cannon shots are nearly invisible to me.
The bright glow on the floor presents some problems. At some angles, you won’t be able to see the AoE rings because a bright white glare is in your face. That and playing from Australia (me) with 350 ping sometimes gets you hit by cannon fire before the ball hits the ground and explodes.

Being color blind truly is a handicap in that dungeon, and I had never even thought of that before (fortunately don’t have that issue). Is this the first time that your color blindness has affected you in the game?
One of my guild-mates only has one arm to play the game with and I know he sometimes has a hard time in dungeons. Unfortunately this type of video game is not made to be accessible by people with handicaps.
Hopefully they’ll come out with something that’ll allow you to change the color of the fields, so maybe you could make them show up as blue rather than red. Like a downloadable patch for those who need it.
As for ranger pets…yeah, those need to become immune to NPC AoE attacks, because I doubt they’ll be able to tweak the AI enough to make them dodge right.
They promised something for the colorblind people once.
Hope this reminds me of them.
But honestly I really want back the old red circles, it bugs the hell out of me.
Yea, I too am colorblind, and boy is it hard to see those AoE circles most of the time. Usually it’s too late by the time I’m like “oh man is that the red circl”…dead
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Not color blind, but the AoE circles are extremely hard to see in the final battle.
I really don’t know if this was intentional or what. I can’t react to something I can’t see.
And I agree. The newer AoE circle animation IS a lot harder to see.
Before they changed the AoE circles to what they are now I had even harder time to see AoE (oh boy Lupi was a joy to do back then) luckily the new circles made them more visible.
If they just toned down the reflectiveness of the floor and made it a wee bit darker it would then actually be possible to see where the barrage is going to land.
As a Ranger I managed to keep my pet alive in the Fritzz battle up until the third stage where jumping over a crate is a must. I can understand that my reef drake cannot climb a box, but why my eagle cannot just fly to my elbow or something?
Maybe Anet should just change the circle to a Skull and cross bone instead that way even people who are color blind can see it clearly.
The red circles need to be a lot thicker.
Taku, have you maybe tried turning off post-processing in Options? (It’s a sucky solution but I leave mine off so I have a better chance of seeing the essentials during combat.)
The red circles need to be a lot thicker.
This.
