Is anyone having trouble with this cache? The Tears of Itlaocol mini-dungeon seems to bug when there’s many players trying to do the tears mini-game.

I dont think this was properly tested when there’s a big flux of players trying to do the puzzle. Because we do the patterns on the rock face but no torchs lit.

You could be doing it wrongly. I know because when alot of pple are at the place, it can be confusing as everyone could be placing the rocks everywhere and not know what to do.

Do the pattern on the left first, if successful, you will see the screen shake i think. Then do the pattern on the right. If done right, door will open.

It’s a sideeffect of the culling. for the pattern to work, noone can stand at any of the pressure plates (including those with tears). With a large number of players culling prevents you from seeing that there are indeed some people standing there.

We tried all sorts of things.
Mostly, me and some others guys ask ppl to stop, then one of us did the patterns all by himself starting with the one on the left. But still no torch lit. Then some ppl got tired of it and left. Some new guys came over and from all the chaos the final torch got lit and the door opened.
I spent more than 30 mins on that place. Did that mini-dungeon alone a few months ago and was like super easy.
I think Anet should have placed the cache on a different JP like Griffonrook Run or something more fun…

Dear Anet.
Thanks for the new content again it’s cool. There’s a problem with this Tears of Itlaocol. Puzzle works only after server reset and even then it’s not 100% certain…patterns bugs out and torches won’t lit…been trying everything. Why put a cache behind bugged puzzle?

I managed to do this puzzle few months ago after waiting for server reset. It’s still bugged and it’s been bugged since launch…

This puzzle is buggy. One of torch may not lit at all after you use the correct pattern (especially right torch). In my server, only 3 torch which lit. Try left pattern, right pattern without avail. The puzzle is buggy.

The suggestion is not correct answer for buggy puzzle. Bug will always be a bug until they fix it.

If your pattern isn’t working, go to the wiki and try the patterns there. Sometimes the pattern shown is not the correct one to solve the puzzle. Through trial and error, you should get through it.

Yeah Tears of Itlaocol has been bugged ever since release. I remember the first time I tried to do it, there was nobody else around and it was close enough to release that there were only one or two videos of people doing it. It bugged and wasn’t showing me the right patterns, had to trawl through other peoples videos and try their patterns until it eventually worked -_-
The problem is just 10x worse when there are a lot of people there. Somehow when I got this cache everyone agreed to let one person do the stones and nobody interfered, it was wonderful.

Sometimes the pattern on the face simply doesn’t change, or changes into a wrong pattern. If this happens, you have to try all the patterns

you may need to remove all the stones before trying the next pattern, even if some stones have same locations.

In my case sometimes no pattern showed at all, so that was the only solution to get in.

Had this issue last day, left pattern was shown right was empty, meaning, right pattern was guessing time, then the two new pattern was merged with the old one, so the left pattern was the new displayed pattern then you removed the old left pattern, and i got it working, same goes for right pattern but since it was empty in the first pattern it was easier the second pattern cause it was adding that to an empty display matrix.

Buggy as hell. Please either make this a priority fix or remove the achievement. Even guesting to other servers doesn’t help.

Very bugged. There was already another thread a few days ago where I posted. Got ninja deleted(or maybe forum bug – at least I did not get a PM about deletion).

They should make it work 100% perfectly that it works all the time there are the Tears on the correct plates. Not having you do stuff like in the wiki(remove all the Tears from the puzzle, try different patterns… and like someone mentioned above: only registers if no player holds tears in their hands anymore… did not know this).

I was lucky to guest on a server where it worked…

With all the people on my server it was hard to try everything from Wiki(and the normal combination did not work of course). Also it might have been that players still held Tears in their hands… I think this was not in the wiki… that everyon has to put them down for the puzzle to register it.

Hard nerf is required – maybe a total redesign. Make the plates something you need to trigger with F… resetting after a few seconds. This might make it easier for them to register than checking the position of a stone.

The gate in Fawcett’s Bounty in Harathi Hinterlands with only 3 stones and plates already had a bit trouble with more players there(but worked much better than Tears)… when I soloed that it worked without problems.

Bad technical stuff behind this…

It’s indeed very buggy. My team completed the pattern for the left side, but the pattern for the right side never appeared. We looked it up on the wiki, and tried out all the known combinations, till we finally managed to get the script to continue to the third and fourth torches. It worked fine after that.

As you can see in the screenshot, there are not that many players. The puzzle is just a bit unreliable.
