Aetherblade dungeon in new release... Why?
The dungeon team has been disbanded for ~4 months. Talked to a dev and he hinted they are going to rework a dungeon after the next upcoming patches.
Thanks for the quick response. Makes little sense why they would disband a key team to the game. Still its saddening.
Who cares of adding permanently new dgs, fix all the present system before enlarge it.

Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
And lets face it, there hasn’t even been a new temporary dungeon added lately.
The Molten Facility was the closest thing and it really was probably too short to be considered an entire dungeon. But it will make a great fractal addition when that finally happens.
The Southsun ‘dungeon’. Please. To call this a dungeon is a disgrace.
I only hope that this new ‘dungeon’ is indeed a dungeon or at least more along the lines of the Molten Facility. At least then they could add it to Fractals.
Really, that would make more sense for them, that way they are designing new content and also designing a new future fractal at the same time. Kill two birds with one stone.
Is it not a permanent new dungeon then?

Nope, up to 9 July iirc.

so if you get bored by the current dungeons – why don’t you run the event dungeon as often then?
And next month… run the other dungeon
Update 5.9.2013: getting better ANet, still way to go!
A Lannister always pays his debts – For everyone else, there’s Mastercard.

Because as evidenced by the Molten Facility, they have kitten rewards compared to the current dungeons. Also, only one path. Also, with MF at least, they’re adding time gating in because they get their feelings hurt by speedclear teams steamrolling over the entire dungeon in 5 minutes.
So, would you enjoy running SE Path 2 over and over and over again for a month if it gave max 15 silver, a crappy chance at rares/exotics with some kitten stat combination, and no tokens?

So this whole “reworking all the dungeons this year” is still not off the tables? I still doubt that they will manage to do that until the end of the year.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Enjoy more temporary nonsense.

The MF dungeon was a lot of fun, and had nice rewards. Why are people angry that we’re getting another one? Is it just because it is temporary content?
I’m sure there are plans for a permanent end game dungeon, but those things take a lot of time. I don’t think it is realistic to expect such a new addition so soon.

We don’t really need new dungeons, we need changes to the existing ones. There are many bugs and problems already, and new dungeons, temporary or not, are only there to make you not worried about how the existing ones are
For some reason I thought this was a permanent dungeon. Oh well, disappointing.

But those are also being worked on. You have to realize that they put different teams on those things. We’re getting a new temporary dungeon AND they are working on the other dungeons.

The AC revamp meet their stated goals of adding mechanics and making it so you have to be organized. It was largely panned and saw a decrease in people doing the dungeon.
They are using the Living Story to quickly throw a bunch of different content at players and see what is enjoyed and generally deemed good. Once they have a baseline of what players actually would enjoy playing I would expect to see permanent content updates/additions.
TL;DR – Living story is to test what we want. Once they know they will develop more permanent content.

As yes, “working on it.” That’s why we’ve had all these awesome dungeon updates since January.
You know, even if they pull out some massive update with a complete dungeon revamp and everyone’s totally surprised by it, it’s still a huge failure from a PR standpoint because that’s the sort of thing they should be talking with the community about. Transparency goes a long way towards creating goodwill between the devs and players. Colin is always very careful to talk about release dates because they’re afraid of getting burned by missed deadlines and pushbacks, but you don’t have to pin down a date to simply tell us “we’re working on x and y, these are the milestones we’ve met, here’s a little preview of some changes we’ve made,” etc etc.
And it’s obvious that they could, if they wanted to, revamp and address dungeon issues in a piecemeal fashion since that’s how they released living story content. The fact that all of the updates this year have focused on Living Story and Gem Shop updates shows where their priorities lie, and it’s not high level PvE content like dungeons and fractals. If you want to buy the “we’re working on it” line, feel free to drink that Kool Aid, but it’s incredible naive.
with some kitten stat combination, and no tokens?
Depends... are we talking about ++Vitality/+Prec/+Tough? If so then count me in.
I’m so tired of the most common combos ALWAYS being ++Power, or ++Condition.
++Power never should have been an option to begin with b/c it’s lead to this Zerker crud
And ++Condition is a joke in Dungeons that Anet STILL hasn’t fixed even though this ENTIRE BALANCE UPDATE claimed they were focusing on fixing conditions/traits!
It doesn’t take an entire YEAR to fix such an obvious oversight, good lawrd...

If this is how game devs operated, WoW raiders would still be on Molten Core. Through an iterative process, new dungeons will be superior to old ones. While old ones should be improved where possible or absolutely needed, new content should be the priority.
Do I want to re-run CoF again for the hundredth time after it has been improved? or do I want them to take the ideas behind those improvements and implement them into a new dungeon that I can run?
The answer is obvious, the new dungeon is the better option. The old dungeon can remain as something extra to run, and as entry level content for new or inexperienced players.
Since people love the Southsun “dungeon”, there should be more one room dungeon. In fact, it would just be better to put the chest there and just let everyone walk in to loot it, foregoing having a boss.
Anyway, the devs should do more for the old dungeon first before adding anything new.

Why not both? They have multiple teams. A Living Story team, and people working on other content. I’m looking forward to them improving the existing dungeons, while also delivering new dungeons.

Number of serious dungeon/fractal updates since January: 0
Number of Living Story updates since January: 9
That’s not really fair. Living Story is content that is much quicker to develop. The other teams will most likely be working on a lot of other stuff as well. Not just dungeons, but also that colossal update that we’re getting. It’s not like Fractals was created in 1 day. This sort of stuff takes time, and rigorous testing.
The point is, Living Story is not something that is slowing down the development if new dungeons. We’ll get them when they’re ready.

It’s perfectly fair queen, the dungeon team was dismantled to make the living story team.
But I’m getting the impression that it is a dynamic process. As in, no team is permanent, and people constantly get placed on new projects. New teams are constantly made…. so why are people making such a big deal out of this?
1) There is no team for permanent pve content.
2) There is no team for patching existing pve content.
3) Constantly making new teams would be the worst development strategy ever. It would be like changing the president of the US every other day. Nothing would ever actually get done.

Ehrm, actually it is quite common at game companies to make new teams on a frequent basis. It makes sure that everyone has variety in their work, that new ideas are brought in, and that people get to work with other people in the company.

They have already stated old dungeon updates will be rolled out through the living story. People shouldn’t complain until they have all of the details.
They have also stated, numerous times, the living story to date has been a series of content tests to gauge what the players do and don’t enjoy, so that they can create/update more successful permanent content in the future.
Seriously, most of this can be found with the dev tracker and Reddit.
People seems to not understand the fact that these temporary dungeons might very well be testing grounds for stuff they want to add/change in the existing dungeons.
With each new release they test and learn new stuff, and see how people react to it. It is a great way to find out how to change old things in a way that people will like.

Honestly, given that now we got a full set of weapons AND armors, this was a missed opportunity for a permanent dungeon with dungeon tokens to get the dungeon armor and weapons like other dungeons.
They had all the ingredients lined up, but at the end the armors went to the gem store, and I’m worried we will see another RNG fest for the Weapons (I’m hope I’m wrong in that assumption).
This dungeon or a similar one with interesting mechanics would be fun to have permanently; if there is some decent reward that makes people want to run it frequently. It was a pain to get through, but I would enjoy it when I and the general pug population knows how to do it.
