Sea of Sorrows Scavenger Hunt—Begins June 25

In this new permanent content, retrace the steps of Cobiah Marriner. Twelve plaques have been set up to honor the history of the city and its founder. You can find clues to the plaques’ locations in Sea of Sorrows. Complete the scavenger hunt to earn five skill points.

this is the scavenger-hunt description from the gw2-homepage. Is there any npc in the game who actually tells you something about Marriner or the upcoming novel? It’s just finding “hidden” caches in places which are marked with a golden star on the map for me so far and I haven’t found any lore on it in the game. O_o

On the news page it said the clues where in the novel.

Well I found 6 of them so far and they’re all in LA. (have been for quite a while, actually.) You couldn’t interact with them so far, now you can. They tell you something about Cobiah’s history. You’ll likely get the skill points if you found all of them.

EDIT: i also just found out there is a wiki page that tells you all of their locations. One of them is in fact in Malchor’s Leap. Here’s the link:

Yes, Cassin Hoppal is at the statue and begins the scavenger hunt, although technically you don’t actually need to talk to him to begin it. He’ll tell you about it and the lore behind it and about the book.

More clues are in the novel, actual locations can be found on the wiki, including the text if you want to spoil yourself on the Sea of Sorrows plot, although personally it feels like a real achievement to find them all yourself without help.

Check the wiki link at the top of the forum. Warning, though, I think the plaques have major spoilers on the book.

Aetherblade caches are a kind of a hunt, but you’re pretty much directed exactly where they are, and with the exception of one of them it’s almost impossible to miss them if you do the jumping puzzle/mini-dungeon they tell you to do.

The scavenger hunt, on the other hand, has no hints in-game except the statue, so it’s an actual hunt.

Here what I don’t like about the scavenger hunt. It’s more lore being explained outside the game. Like with the living story blog posts.
