A request to ANet - Sclerite Skins and RNG
Agreed. If you’re going to put new skins in boxes give us the option to just BUY the skins in the gem store as well.
This perplexes me as well. The designers have an eye for designing beautiful weapons and armor (IMO), it’s just a shame that an RNG system is attached to it making it next to impossible for players to get who really want it.
I don’t know how many people I’ve heard saying they lucked out and got the weapon skin with the first 10 crates they opened, but didn’t even want it. Then there are people who spend hundreds of $$$ who never get it, who really want it.
I’m totally fine having an RNG system in place to obtain these skins when they do come out but there needs to be additional ways to obtain these during and after the events.
For instance, I think this would work better, make them more money, and make players happier:
A) Don’t sell crates on the market, sell the skins and mini-pets outright instead
- there are collectors who will buy all this stuff up because that’s what they like to do
B) Have a means to farm/craft/mystic forge the skins/mini pets after the event is over
- these don’t need to be easy to get, but don’t make them “legendary” difficult either, but difficult enough that those who like to farm, will do so; then those that don’t have the time or patience to farm will just buy them
I would have liked a few of the fused weapon skins when they were available; I also would like some of the Sclerite ones as well, but I’m not playing the RNG game with real money. If I want to do that, I’ll go buy a lotto ticket
Sigh I suppose I’ll never get my sclerite dagger. :’(
Or at least make them soul-bound or account-bound upon use, so that way those that do get them in the first 10 crates they open and don’t want them can just sell them on the TP. Regardless of how much they’re asking for them, there are players who will buy them.

This probably is an unpopular opinion, but I hope Anet continues with this method.
The fact that they’re going to do this model 3 times in a row is a pretty good indicator of how profitable they must have been. And I want this game to succeed financially so that I continue to get free content that I am not paying for.
Not being able to collect everything new that comes out bothers me slightly, sure. But if this means Anet is raking in the money off people who are willing to gamble? Go for it. They pay for the game so I don’t have to.
My guardian alt has a fused hammer and a sclerite staff given I didn’t find any of the skins appealing for my main, I’m assuming I got bloody lucky given I got fused with one box I opened from levelling my guardian and the sclerite after the 30th chest or so I got from farming/a few bought. the skins themselves don’t seem that amazingly special, nice yes but not “MUST have” and maybe it’s just me but part of their appeal is that they aren’t one of those skins that everyone and his dog seems to run around in such as the tentacle porn backpiece, CoF gear, the flower etc. I can imagine those that luck out with the RNG want changes but I honestly think the RNG is a lucrative way for anet to make money to continue content so rather than remove that maybe make them not as rare next time.

When have they used this system 3 times in a row? I can only remember them using it once before, for the fused weapons. SAB was a completely different, much better system.
If anything is any indicator of how much money ANet is doing is the price of gems. The higher it goes the more people are buying gems. And, actually the price of gems was dropping till they added the new items (like the sickle) indicating that people were hardly buying into the supply crates…
That said neither of us has definite numbers so let’s not pretend we know what’s better business. ANet has those numbers, along with people more qualified than you or me to analyze them, so they don’t need us to do that.
What I’m providing is costumer feedback. How I, as and individual costumer, feel about this. Of course I want ANet to be successful. I love this game. But if this is what they have to do for it… well, it’s a pretty kittenty way to do it and I don’t like it. It wouldn’t be the first game I quit because the way it finds to be successful is too distasteful for me.

It may also rarely contain a Mini Holo Undead Dragon Knight, recipes, or a Dragon’s Jade Weapon Skin Ticket.
So they are doing the same gem shop model 3 times in a row after testing various models (Halloween, Wintersday, Lost Shores, F&F). I think their actions is a pretty good indicator of what they found to be successful.

The Gold/Gem exchange ratio increases (more gold required to purchase same amount of gems) when players convert gold into gems. It deceases (less gold required to purchase same amount of gems) when players convert Gems into Gold. The Gold/Gem exchange ratio is not a very good indicator of how many people bought Gems with real money, since only those who convert it to gold will impact the exchange (And the people who bought gems to buy the crates certainly did not exchange it for gold.)

Of course. I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m also providing my feedback also. The RNG-gated skins hardly bother me, since there’s so much else to achieve in this game for me, and does not affect my gameplay in any other way.

I understand the need for ANet to make money, but I also sympathise with the player’s side of things here. I would definitely prefer the option to just buy the skin outright, but if ANet MUST continue to go down the RNG path, then I only ask that they change it so that the Fused/Sclerite/Jade skins become sellable on the TP, thereby allowing players who were extremely unlucky a chance to purchase it outright from those who were more fortunate. (Plus, I think the opportunity to become “insta-rich” by landing a rare weapon skin and then selling it could only increase the desire to buy more RNG packs. It’d be a win-win for ANet either way.)
I’m up to 50 crates or so roughly and not one ticket… did FINALLY get a mini however.
