Once you have the required achievements, have seen all the events at least once, been insta-squished by reef drakes… what is there to return to Southsun for?

I know that some love the crab toss game and thats cool. But the drop tables from the enemies are completely out of whack with the effort required to try and kill them.

From my experience so far, the drop tables look a little like:

Junk
Junk
Junk
Junk
Junk
White crafting mat.
Junk
Junk
Blue clothing item.

Doesn’t give much incentive to return and support those who are still getting the achievements.

Try to use +200% magic find boost?

I have to wonder what it says about our base chances in loot that they’re willing to hand out +200% MF for the whole zone to be farmed during this event. Maybe it’s some sort of experiment to see if they’ve been a bit over-cautious with the economy?

kill the big karkas, they always drop a karka shell which now go for 2 silver on tp. Kill 50 in an hour and ya got y’r self 1 gold if that’s how you roll. I just like the thrill of battling those huge karkas

Does increased magic find improve the chances of getting a supply crate and/or a ticket from the supply crate? I really want some sclerite weapon skins.

To me this enormous free MF boost looks like a last resort to keep at least some players in southsun cove over the event time. Most achievements (including all(?) rewards) can be completed in less than 2 hours and afterwards there is no reason to come back besides farming. But considering the mobs in southsun cove are harder to fight than most others and those few events with enough mobs that give loot scale like crazy, I dont think many people would do it without this ridiculous amount of +200% MF.

It increases the chance of getting them to drop (I think the have the same chance as any other rare item). The MF boost does not effect however what you get inside the boxes. MF is for killing mobs only.

Where can you get the 200percent MF?

Go into any camp. Talk to the Settler negotiator (marked by a living story star above his head). Agree with him to help them.

Buff lasts 23 hours, only on the island, and can be picked up any number of times.

No reason to come back huh?
Before they rebooted Southsun I spend a moderate amount of time there.
Gathering the nodes, enjoying the sights, wandering with friends, exploring, …
wishing I could jump in the water and discover a whirlpool that led me into a whole underwater map.

Aside from that, it’s just plain fun. Or isn’t that a factor any more in gaming these days? Slaying veteran karka’s on my own always brought me enjoyment and will continue to do so, long after the event is over and done with.
I felt content with the rewards I got. I got plenty of karka shells and other materials from the veterans and even a rare here and there. It was enough for me to do a 1-2hour walk of Southun in between WvW, PvP or other PvE areas, once or twice a week.
If anything, it kinda saddens me to see so many people bumrushing the karka’s now with an unstoppable grouped force and receive more rewards then they should get. But relax, that’s just my opinion and I’m certainly not saying they shouldn’t have a guaranteed karka shell drop any more.

So in other words, when everyone has left Southsun again seeking their glory elsewhere; myself, my friends and many others I’m sure, will still be running around in that gorgeous place killing those fairly powerful veteran karka’s and their champion (and whatever other creatures they leave behind with the Southsun storyline).

That’s really no different then the entire F&F arc. You can complete the achievement-based content in day with rare exceptions, after that the zone is ‘just a zone’ and you might as well be elsewhere unless you enjoy that area.

Thing is that seems ok for me. I’d hate to feel forced into the ‘hot zone of the month’ by the living story. I would like the living story parts to have a bit more repeatable content (and leaving more permanent content). But being too enticing would be a bad thing too because players will feel forced to do unfun things all month and quit over it. They can shift the sweet spot a bit more towards luring players there, but not very much.
