I ascended the backpiece (which cost me much gold) because I assumed it would add the same particle effects as the weapons. The stat combo is unpopular so I didn’t think it would be ascendable unless it changed the skin. This is not the case, so I figured I would post so others do not make the same mistake and waste gold.

Also…it changed main stat from toughnes to healing power. Thats where was my mistake. eh…Just transmuted it back on mine pvt.

So ascending the backpiece doesn’t yield a new skin??

Nope. Took me 50g to find that out.

I was getting ready to ascend it too, I don’t use those stats, but i assumes it would yield a new skin. It’s probably cheaper transmutating it onto a fractal back.

ya if you dont like the stat combo (and i doubt you would), dont ascend it, just transmute the skin to another backpiece and save yourself a ton of gold.

Well my question is if the skin would change if you upgraded it to Ascended (Infused). because that is how the fractal backs work…

Ascending it is a final upgrade. U can’t upgrade it any farther.

Even the fractal back changed when you ascended it from exotic to ascended. It got things that hung down.

yeah, I believe it is a mistake and hope anet corrects it.

No, the fractal back doesn’t change until you infuse it.

I don’t get why the stat combo is something that most classes and builds don’t want to use AT ALL. If you only want to make one stat combo, why not PVT which most people would find at least remotely usable? That or at least give players the chance to choose between a few popular stat combos when they ascend the back piece.

It’s just cuz it’s the stat combo that Southsun came with for crafting. Apothecary.
It’s actually amazing for condition builds. Plus they wanna sell Tranny Stones.

So for this if i wanted to, could i transmute this skin to another exotic backpiece like berserker then ascend it which would give me ascended berserker stats? so basically original exotic—→transmuted stats exotic—>transmuted stats ascended?

Well… Ascending the fractal backpiece doesn’t change the skin. Only infusing changes it. Since you can’t infuse the sclerite backpack, why should it change the skin then? So you can’t compare it to the condensator. Aaaah, the logic >.<

I’m not trying to get a new skin from ascending, idc to infuse it i just want to get ascended type stats( like berserker which is the Quiver of Swift Flight). what im trying to do is change the stats from toughness /healing power/cnd dmg to power/prec/crit dmg. so once i ascend it in the mystic forge it would have same stats as Quiver of Swift Flight.
my main concern/question is can i transmute the item and still make it ascended?

Short answer: no
When you transmute an item, you are taking the skin from item A and using it to replace the skin of item B. So item B now looks like item A, but from a code perspective it is still item B. All the coding from item A is lost. A transmuted Sclerite Karka Shell will not have the code that allows it to ascend.

A work-around would be to get an exotic Prototype Fractal Capacitor with Berserker’s stats from Fractals, Ascend the capacitor, then Infuse the capacitor if you care about agony resistance. Now that you have an ascended backpiece with Berserker’s stats, you can then transmute the Sclerite Karka Shell skin onto your ascended Prototype (or Beta) Fractal Capacitor, which will give you an ascended Berserker’s backpiece with the skin of the karka shell.

My ranger loves apothecary. It was the stats I was, in fact, HOPING for when I first saw it. Anet rocks. If you don’t main ranger, it’s hard to see how much love we’ve been given lately. And the flower goes perfectly with my TA armor.

Do you need to wait until an item is fully upgraded before you slap the skin onto it? I want to put the flower onto my fractal back, which still has an upgrade to get funded. I don’t want to change the look only to have it revert when I toss it in the Mystic Forge. Anyone know?

I was just going to wait until it was all said and done to be safe.

Upgrading fractal capacitors in the mystic forge resets the skin. Don’t transmute until you reach your desired level of capacitor.
