Backpiece clipping
I can confidently say that the Fervid Censer does not clip with my Charr character!
But that is only because it’s floating several inches away from his back.
Backpack placement needs to be worked on, but as far as I can tell they fit the backpack’s placement to one body type of each race so if you don’t have that body type you’re out of luck. It would probably be a tough thing to fix due to technical limitations.
But alas, that is dungeon armor. It doesn’t clip on my T2 sylvary heavy breastplate. The sword clips but that’s unavoidable.
I don’t see it clipping on your Sylvari at all in that picture. I only see it clipping on your sword, which is obviously going to happen when you stack two items together on your back.
But in general, clipping will happen. There is no way to have an item fit every single armor/race/weapon combination in the game. Something is bound to clip, and adjusting it for one thing, could ruin it for everything else. It is sadly, unavoidable.
Lady Bethany Of Noh – Chronomancer – Lords of Noh [LoN]
But it specifically clips badly on Sylvari rather than human. I tested on both, with the same sword.
That clipping isn’t as bad as some I have seen. It looks manageable at least. Seems Sylvari male at least has more issues with the censer clipping then others.
For instance tier 3 light male clips really bad (more so the shoulders clip). Same armor on female doesn’t clip at all.
Clipping is annoying but I dunno if they can truly avoid it all the time. Its really a shame when you find something you like and it clips really bad with other pieces and items.
Well maybe if they make something Sylvari-themed, they should actually test it on Sylvari before anyone else?
The equivalent is giving humans an Asura-related backpiece, but having it clip horribly on asura. The question is WHY did they not model it on an asura before the other characters!?

That’s nothing, try the Karka shell one on a character with long hair, hair clips directly through it.
I don’t really care though, but my first thought was “Man that’s going to annoy the heck out of the pretty pretty dressup crowd….”
oh look; i get to share my pictures again
atleast your sylvari is heavy armour (so all that i can see clipping – aside from the sword – is one of the TA spikes); go for light or medium t3 and any backpiece clips like crazy

I think it’s the case that there will always be clipping in one way or another When we pull it far enough off the back for it not to clip on heavy armors, people in light/medium armor have a large gap between their back and the item. We try to find the happy medium where we can appease as many as we can, but it’s not going to be perfect for everyone.
That being said, we are looking into these issues and trying to develop better systems for the back-slot items that will result in less clipping and less gaps. Certain armors will always be problematic, but we’re always looking into solutions for things like these
Could the backpiece not change it’s preference depending on what type of armour the character wears?
If armour = light use backpiece#1
If armour = medium use …
I know I know, dreaming here.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

what about setting it on different distances based on the weight class or shoulders? like the backpiece is set according to the shoulderpads, rather than according to the character, or each weight class has the backpiece laid in a specific position based on which weight class the character belongs to.
the weight class solution would likely be easier, but would also most likely not deal with a lot of clipping issues. on the other hand, an automated system that calculates the best distance for the backpiece based on the shoulderpads’ model would likely require a lot of extra effort and cause several cases of “floaty backpieces”.

Could you or another possibly take a look at allowing us to dye back pieces such as the fervid?

But this is NOT an issue with Heavy armor! Both of my characters use heavy armor. This is a problem exclusive to SYLVARI!
Take 5 minutes to test with the same body size and weapon. Something is very messed up with their SKELETON! (See: the stretching of pants.) On the case of the flower, compare with the human version:

First thing I thought of, too… Surely there’s some way to make a flag so that not every armor type (or race) has to use exactly the same positioning across the board?
My complaint is with the Sylvari skeleton in general. Test it on both human and sylvari.

Could start with having fewer spikes. :P
I know someone over there has a great huge love for spikes(see GW1 assassin armor …).

Not until they add spiky medium armor for us Assassins, errr… I mean Thieves.

Seriously. I want that! (Props for not being a trench-coat..)

I know it will take too much efforts to fix these issues, but it would be greatly appreciated if ArenaNet develops some system where it automatically arranges equipment according to each specific armor. I mean, those armor textures have to have some data that can be used for computing the distance between them and weapons/backpacks, don’t they?
It really ruins the overall feeling from the game when i see those clipping issues I love to immerse into game and feel like the Tyria is real, but when I see shield half hidden in my shoulders, it is all gone.

Kind of like how my Elementalists daggers are no where near the body or armor.

I’m a sylvari elementalist who often has daggers equipped, and I can rarely see them because they’re at least halfway clipped on the other side of my armour. I use cultural T3.
I have a similar issue with shoulders— sylvari male, thinnest build. Most of the dungeon shoulders and some of the rest float way too high or stick too far out to the side. :<

you could add a system that detect the type of the armor you wear and the type of weapon you have…
there’s always been something seriously wrong with things clipping or being stretched out strangely on Sylvari, specifically. Floating Shoulders, gigantically wide hips on skirts, and this of course.
What if they allowed you to personally adjust the positioning of the items. It would have to be mostly client side only however, since custom positioning on hundreds of people would be such a waste on bandwidth.
Imagine for example being able to customize the positioning of your weapons, so that you could do something like wearing double swords (X) on your back (because I know it’s an often requested feature). You’d have to give up the draw animation though.
Feel happy your not playing a Female Charr. Every backpiece hangs about half a foot away from my characters back. (Not to mention that about 2 shoulders actually work on my character all the rest float a silly distance away too)
And then there are Engineers. Currently you can see both the backpiece and their kits at the same time.
If A-Net are going to give cool backpieces as rewards for events they really need to sort this lot out.
So far I’ve got Rox’s Bow on my Charr and the Jetpack on my Engineer and neither work properly. When a lot of the end game is about collecting skins rather than stats it really makes me unhappy (I think that is a decent way to put it, seeing that I had to do a lot this to get these skins and all it has ended up in me getting is 2 skins that make me annoyed when I see them).

Why not make it adjustable how big the gap between the backpiece and your back is?
Give us an option to adjust it pls
