It took me six tries to finish the Canach quest. Why? Because he could, for reasons unknown, simply walk over mines that could take me up to three applications of the Mine Detector to even turn to my side – or the mine, glowing green, would simply blow up on me instead, and that’s without a single message about him rearming the mines.

Anybody else having these problems? I’m done bothering with Living Story quests either way, but I’d be interested in knowing if these problems are something only myself and my girlfriend are encountering – she apparently has done it on all of her characters, including a Level 2 Mesmer, and says it was working fine an hour ago, but now she’s having the same problems I was.

You’re not alone. I got him about three quarters down on his health and then the mines just stopped working for me. I gave up eventually. I’ll try again tomorrow maybe if my blood pressure has returned to normal.

I figured it was because he would rearm them according to what is stated in the yellow text. It took me a few tries to come to that conclusion.

The problem is, often he won’t re-arm them but the mines will be green and they won’t work for you. Other times it seems like he might re-arm them without the yellow text popping up. I don’t think it’s just a case of people not realising he re-armed them, it’s an actual bug.

This all sounds so familiar….rushed content, perhaps not tested enough, or, devs unfamiliar with how to design challenging and sustainable content that won’t break after several hours.

Same here. I’ve got the mechanics down but each time he eventually just ends up running over the green mines I have disarmed.

Welp, as long as it ain’t just me, I’m done bothering with Living Story stuff – I’m asleep when it, functioning properly, hits, and by the time I wake up, it’s broken.

Having the same issue. Canach skips over the mines and they blow up on me instead. He wasn’t rearming, detonating, or anything.

Something I’ve noticed. If a detection beam sound goes out, followed by the disable noise. It’s not safe. It turns back to red almost immediately. If you disarm and only hear the disable noise with no detect noise, it’s safe.

You’re actually up to fighting Canach? I envy you. No, my problem is that the mine detector flat out doesn’t work for me. I know, yes, thank-you, use the detector pulse thing, pay attention to the icon that pops up over the mine and use the corresponding skill on the mine detector. I CAN parse text, and I DID speak to the NPC at the beginning of the dungeon.

Problem is, that doesn’t work. I can, sometimes, manage to turn one mine green after one or two tries, and then it never works again until I go out and come back in, resetting my laughably minute progress. I use the detector, take note of the icon, use the corresponding skill, inch forward to the edge of the boom-circle, use it again, use it again, shuffle around so I’m facing it from a different angle, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, use it again, you get the idea.

I even tried cycling through the other disarming skills to try and make it explode, which is what is meant to happen if use the wrong one, but it didn’t even register that. Even Murphy’s Law fails in the face of it’s brokenness. The one constant of the universe.

-take tanky build with some condition auto-attack.
-run past mines to guy.
-spam the loving hell out of your mine-brainwashing-machine until you convert one, then get him to set it off. Stand in it if you must.
-kill him with conditions.

The whole encounter was poorly designed and implemented. Good thing the game is f2p or I’d be wanting a refund for that craptastistically stupid ‘dungeon’ (I use the term loosely).

Do you happen to have Fast-Cast Ground Targeting turned on? Those mine skills (2 through 4) are ground targeted.

Same here…I wondered why I was having such a hard time…well everyone of the forums was saying it was easy…

I was having a hard time cause it was bugged, I would turn mines green…they would still blow me up and not effect the boss at all…

Ran it with a couple of groups and they all give up in frustration…

This single player encounter is simply so badly designed, I can only hope they will never every try to do this again.

Few things that were incredibly annoying for me:
- The only reliable way to get Canach close enough to the mines is to stand right on them. Unfortunately somehow the mines are often instantly rearmed and you die from actually green mines. Sometimes it appeared as if Canach can hit a green mine to make it explode and damage you right at the moment he entered it’s range.

- The poison mines do close to zero damage and the cripple mines have like 1 second duration, so they are completely useless

- Once you get downed, you can only watch how Canach slowly pokes you to death, because there is nothing to rally on and of course nobody can revive you

- The yellow chat messages are very cheap, but that’s okay for free content. What i don’t understand is why those messages can’t be shown in the middle of the screen, like other yellow system messages are.

To the above poster, it actually is possible to rally off Canach. Not by killing anything, but simply by healing yourself to full with your downed 4 skill. If you catch Canach rearming / detonating mines, those animations give you a lot of time and its possible to heal yourself to full health if you get lucky.

As for Canach’s encounter being buggy… yah. I’ve seen most of the issues mentioned here myself as well, though the problems tend to be quite intermittent in my own case. I’ve seen Canach run right over a mine without detonating it, I’ve seen green mines explode on me, I’ve seen mines not change ownership properly…. but all of those have only happened a couple times. Most of the time everything seems to work properly.

I’ve also seen a bug not mentioned yet, though. At one point I finished Canach off, he entered into his chained state in the middle of the room… and nothing happened after that. Kiel and the Charr never came over to confront Canach, they just stayed at the entrance (with Kiel still giving the speech about the mine detector). Eventually just had to leave instance and do it over.

I’ve also had some audio bugs. When Kiel comes over to talk to Canach, most of the time her spoken dialogue is mute, and you can only tell what she’s saying by reading the speech bubbles. I know the spoken dialogue exists, because I’ve had her say the full speech all the way through one time, but a lot of the time she says nothing. Canach and the Charr seem to talk consistently, though.
