Crazed Karka Queen achievement BUG?
I was at that same one and didn’t get it either.
Yes, there is a bug with the achievement that we are working on fixing.

any idea if we are going to have to kill her again to get it? some of us might not be able to because, the people who have gotten the achievement won’t do it again. Thus making it a lot harder to get all 4 camps cleaned out to make her spawn

I wouldn’t worry about that. Even if you have trouble clearing all 4 camps (which I doubt because there are plenty of people still in Southsun) you get 2 rares from killing her each reset (so after the dailies reset people will flock there).

I’m pretty sure a world boss with 2 guaranteed rares or exotics, plus a chest and a drop off a legendary mob will inspire people to do it. It is similar to a dragon event meta in that regard, but with more guaranteed drops due to it’s higher difficulty.
My hope would be that it is done by guilds, and that players can use the API info to time when the queen is up to go do it like they do the dragons now.

To answer your question though, yes you will have to kill the karka queen again once we resolve the problem.

so is there a time limit on the achievement then? i know the queen is a permanent addition to the game, do we have till the end of the south sun event to get it? or say can we still get it a month from now

If you ever release a patch without such massive bugs, I’ll be truly amazed. Props to your awesome QA and testing department.
/e: while you’re on it, not only didn’t we get the achievement, half the other karka around there dealt damage to players but were permanently invincible, even after the event ended.

Yeah the lure of making maybe 40 silver (assuming your salvage kit is working) and repeatedly dying in one shot to something (presumably 10 million karka due to the damage I just got dealt) you cant see due to the horrific lag and culling whilst being surrounded by 30 other instantly dead folks is well worth a visit to somewhere that doesnt even have a waypoint next to it.
And that wasnt even the event, because that didnt spawn (is that bugged too?) after we finally corpse dragged our way to getting 4/4 settlements back off the 10 million karka.
It won’t get me going back very often thats for sure. But it might make me reach for a gun and a bottle of scotch. Fun, fun, fun.

And while we’re on the subject the vendor weapons look like garbage, have garbage stats and cost too much. The medium armor set makes you look like you have gained employment in an abbatoir as a cleaner. Oh look its another boring overcoat. Yawn.

But the Southsun guide said that the Queen had to be slain between days 4 and 11 in order to get the achievement.
I killed her twice now and i still haven’t gotten my achievement. Both from two separate toons. :’(

But why? Why must we go through this almost every time?
Achievements seem such a simple thing, and you guys must test stuff before you make it live…I’m away for this week, and whilst I took my laptop away I’m playing with extreme culling and a 1Mb internet connection. I made the effort to come online to gain these achievements, and there’s yet another bug. Oh yay, I get to have to endure this again.
I actually don’t mind the fight itself, but losing a lot of patience with ArenaNet’s constantly buggy updates. There always has to be some kind of problem. This one just happened to be more of an inconvenience for me, which is why it’s provoking me into being more vocal.

Now killed Karka Queen 3 times and have still not received achievement whats going on?
If you’ve fought the queen, then you should be aware of the multitude of glitches going on at the moment. Including a particularly hell-bent on killing everyone invulnerable karka… so… be patient. I’m sure they’re working on it.

I would like to point to Orr temples and Grenth temple in particular as counter argument. The reward to effort ratio of these things do not really feel like the work out at all. Two rares is about 30s, possibly less with more rares being thrown at players. The instigator events seems to have gone too far in the other extreme. Skills aren’t the only thing that needs balancing in this game …

i absolutely love this game, but just getting tired of thins like this not working and getting told to do it a second time – slowly getting put off this lovely game
It’s just an achievement. Not sure why everyone’s panties are all bunched up. I tell you if my QA department gave me as much kitten as you guys give the devs I would’ve jumped out the window by now.

Oh, then you were lucky not to see the actual event (yes, the queen does spawn – i assume there’s a hidden cooldown timer between her appearances. The settlements really shouldn’t be attacked by karka unless she’s close to reappearing, though). It involves mass spawn of karkas of differing sizes, that seems really badly scaled to the size of the zerg involved (badly scaled means that with a big enough zerg there literally isn’t a place without a red circle, rolling veteran, spitting young or mkittenchling swarms within attack range of the queen). It is doable, but frankly i don’t think it’s worth doing more than once. Too much hassle and no fun.
IMO the preparation phase (freeing settlements) should happen only once, when queen is ready to appear, and the event spawn scaling should be looked into and tuned down considerably.

Althou im not a fan of mass aoe that seems to be mechanic tied to every boss, i like thies events, atleast they are more challenging than others in this game.
I mean compare dragons to queen and you can see a clear difrence, which is good.

My hope would be you quit relying on junior woodchuck web programmers to create windows into information you want available to those of us who merely pay for your game – put a proper check box into the options so we can see the timers from inside the game!

I partly agree, there should be a gameplay-mechanic to inform us of those events. Not some timers which are totally breaking the illusion of being in a fantasy world imho. Create an NPC who opens small Asura-portals to the next upcoming event-chain so that people who haven’t found every event in the game have the chance to experience something they maybe haven’t before. Main cities would be a good location for those NPCs since those are pretty dead at the moment. Add some minigames and events to cities too, so that people have something to do while waiting on the next portal (which should spawn quite often because there are tons of event-chains / bigger events in the game).
Portals might be too much, but a town crier? As long as it wouldn’t be announcing the events with pinpoint accuracy, it could work (so, no “shatterer has landed, go kill it”, but more “valiant vigil forces in the Blazeridge Steppes are marshalling their troops against the Shatterer , and are asking for volunteers” sometime before preevents get started).

a portal to the entry of the zone from where a npc starts running towards the event (similar to the outbreak-events in WvW). It’s really necessary imho. Today I played in this area to the north of Ebonhawke where I found this Ogre-Chieftain event. No one around and I had no chance of doing it alone. Why not spawn those portals in the main city (when there is actually something to do there) so that a few players come and help me. Don’t forget: those events happen anyway – town crier or not, so I can still explore and find those by accident.
Those criers spawn portals for random upcoming events, so the journey can’t be predicted and you’d see a lot of the world, stuff you missed, and now and then surprisingly a big dragon event. Take away those dragon-timers and a lot less people would participate in those encounters, making them challenging again.
Seriously: No to APIs, I hate that the game is somewhat played in a cheating-way. Tons of lag for people with older systems, the dragon gets zerged to death without any real strategy. People should play more different events instead of only the same 4. Give better rewards for those big eventchains and people would find out how much fun content the game actually has.
I’d also make these expeditions a daily achievement:
- use the crier-portal & beat the challenge
What happens: people who run around in the world find much more players helping them in those big forgotten eventchains. People on the map far away from the big event chain would see a group running behind a crier and find that big event that way.

I have completed the event two times with 2 separate characters and still no achievement. Is this still broken?
