I am enjoying Southsun.
Me too, enjoying the game more and more. I just hope for new armors soon.
I will not be satisfied until I can ride a karka.

I’m enjoying it a lot too. While I haven’t been able to complete the jumping puzzle or win at crab toss, I like that there are so many fun events and things to do.
I feel rewarded for doing stuff and not punished with DR for staying on the map (don’t know if this is true, but DR seems much less of a problem here). And for someone residing on a medium populated server, all the people showing up for this is the best treat of all.
I’m enjoying it too. I never got into the previous Living Story events since I was finishing my Legendary, plus they were set in a cold wasteland and started right at the end of winter when I was sick of freezing snowy weather. But this one is very fun, and the setting is just right.
My only niggles are that Crab Toss is very annoying, and the weapon skins are very hard to get (no chests here, in 5 hours of play). Other than that, it’s been great.

Itinerant, no guild.
My most memorable moment in this game was when I was touring some guildies to get the samples. Everywhere we went, there was a riot, or mobs where attacking the settlement, 3 Veteran Karkas decided to aggro on us at the same time (we ended up killing about 7-8 of them, one after the other, non-stop), Jungle wurms appeared just on our feets, we cried in frustration at the JP, and killed those pesky insties (Several times).
I’ll miss this island when the event is over. Well.. I will miss the MF buff and the insti farming too

You’re the mount, karka’s ride you instead, and thus they die happy!
They are doing a much better job telling the Secret of Southsun story than in the Lost Shores event IMO. I was going back through the wiki and realizing how much of the LS story I missed because of I couldn’t log on at the right times.
An extended event open to everyone is much better way and lets more people share in the story. I’ve always felt that the story should be something that every player should be able to enjoy, that common knowledge can help bind the community together and the story shouldn’t be hidden behind hardcore content or otherwise limited access. The high end gear and challenges can be behind that stuff but story should be shared with everyone.

In Soviet Russia, karka rides you!
The jumping puzzle is probably the toughest JP there is, at least from my experience with it and the sheer volume of player complaining in /map. It’s a real challenge and I think it meets the islands expectations as nothing here is easy.
Clearly, you were not around for the great Clock Tower debacle of Halloween; it was glorious. But, yeah, I’d have to agree that the steam vents are probably the most difficult JP in the game permanently.

Oh Gods no don’t give them that idea.
We already have HumanxCharr shippers, don’t give them more….
Ah well this is the Internet after all, they would have thought of it someday. lol

Now that it’s been out for a few days, I can say that I still love this update. Southsun is full of life and bustling with people, which probably won’t last as the next story is sure to sweep players away elsewhere, but I’m confident that Southsun will see at least a small regular population from now on. I like how unique items were available that didn’t require grinding for money to buy on the gem store or were RNG, be nice if the skins weren’t RNG again though. (As a side note, I’d appreciate a waypoint around the camp on the edge of Driftglass!)
Overall it’s a pretty good update! I’m looking forward to the June story, which I believe is supposed to be one of those “mini expansions” I heard about a while back that’s supposed to be released every 6 months or something. Be nice if someone could confirm this.
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the new content. I don’t feel exactly the same way and haven’t really bothered playing since the day the update was released, mostly because there’s too much lag and frame rate issues for me and the enemies are a little too difficult. I will probably still check in from time to time and play for an hour or so over the event and maybe find some enjoyment in it.

Why does this make me shudder so?
Definitely enjoying this and having fun with the various events and even the crab toss.
No no wanna ride no karka! Do wanna kill em for shells and meat to make Crab Louie…. We should be able to use crab meat to cook with…
It’s good. I was really hoping that wouldn’t let the Cove rot as wasted development. I’d love to see it become fully integrated with new hubs and PoI (part of the world traveler stats).

I’m enjoying the Southsun content. It’s manic and sure, most of it consists of an unending zerg running between Driftglass Springs and Kiel’s Waypoint, but people seem to be having fun. Crab Toss is loads of fun, I laughed at the convos between Kasmeer/Faren and Tengvi/Job-o-Tron, and the new backpack skins are absolutely beautiful!
It’s definitely better than flame & frost so far.
Flame & Frost was good, but it just stretched out way too long.

Well considering they puke babies all over you that ride you piggyback all over the island till you splatter them all over the ground, it makes sense. Wait, does that help? .-.
I’ve been enjoying Southsun, and it feels good to be back there. I’m pleased Anet brought us back to the island.

I love how inclusive all the events are. There’s nothing else like having 20 to 30 completely random players all running across the map doing one event after another together. It’s what I love best about this game

i actually love it so far think it was well done if this is the vacation crew maybe they should switch places with the regular crew.

Yea, before SS was just a nice location, with vivid scenery and some of the best and diverse landscape designs in GW2. Now it’s also fun and lively, mobs are fun to fight and thus group events are rarely trivial, unless, ofc, a big fat zerg washes everything away. After MF, which was really good, had probably one of the best trash mechanics among most if not all MMO’s i’ve seen, i’am actually excited to see the end dungeon of SS event. So far, all around, gj. Let’s hope it’ll get even better.
Yeh very well done an awesome event, much faster paced than the build up with MF too, which is great feels like your getting somewhere as apposed to being a sign fixing boy
Good to know that the baby karka aren’t sucking blood but using us as mounts! : <
Nice blend of difficulty and reward, decent variety of events, new area gets a little bit more interest to it = good job, team. Compared to the event when Southsun was first introduced this was much smoother, more interesting, and more trouble-free. Keep it up.
I like the new South Sun too, it is nice to see something happening in karkaland at last.
I like the Living Story content, I like the vibe, I like the rewards and I love that I can do a solo mission at the end
Sadly for me Southsun is just another grind zone for mediocre loot. Although the story is good and the events are fast paced what spoils it for me is the finicky rng. One of the sources for excitement buildup my first day there was the chance at finding a crate with the chance of pulling a weapon skin from that crate. I see on the forums where people have opened 100 dropped crates or got a skin on their very first one yet I have spent close to 20 hours there with not one crate dropping. I have grinded skelks, karka, ran the event circuit and did all the achievements that are possible to complete to date and I am still waiting for that first crate drop.
I will go back and complete the achievements when they are available but the enjoyment for the area is gone. Until ANET can explain why some people ( I am not the only one) are bitten by such horrid luck with the reward drops, I will work on leveling alts.
I enjoyed the events there. The jumping puzzle was a major source of frustration while at the same time it was a major blast once I finally made it through. I spend a lot of time in the shiverpeaks so it was a good vacation from the stark scenery. My favorite part of the islands is either the tide pools or the hive. Very well done.
The only thing that does not seem very well balanced is the event in driftglass, a stampede of karkas and reef riders come in wiping the whole group/camp, no matter how many or not many at all it always seems to be a complete wipe?…
