I just keep farming and listening to music. As long I get something better than blue, white and gray. I am fine.
If Southsun cove has taught us anything, it’s that MagicFind gear is absolutely and totally worthless. If there is no difference when running around slaying veteran karka’s all day with 400% magicfind, then there is no reason to give up a stat to strive for the 185% you can normally get anywhere else. What are your thoughts on the matter?
Honestly, I am pretty much convinced its a placebo. RNG is hard-wired into this game for a reason.
Magic Find is a worthless stat in general. Whether Southsun or just running around normally. It does absolutely nothing.
Magic Find is one of those stats that was designed to make you feel like you had a higher chance. When in reality, you actually don’t. When a game is based around nothing but RNG, Magic Find is completely worthless. Sure it may say that you have 800% Magic Find, but in the end, you are still relying on RNG for your drops. The same RNG that those with 0% Magic Find are dealing with as well.
Go kill a Champion or something and watch 0% MF guy get an Exotic, while 400% MF guy gets a Blue. RNG is RNG. Magic Find does not change that. Thus, it only gives you the illusion that your chances are better, when in actuality, they are the same as everyone else’s.

Can I get better Celestial stats Anet without the MF please????
Perhaps a better question would be, does Magic Find work at all? I’d really like to know.

I’ve actually found the 200% magic find buff to be amazing at gathering T6 bloods, claws, etc. One of the most common reasons people find magic find useless is because it doesn’t affect chests, but when you’re after the crafting mats it’s a completely different story.
For running with a MF user since a long time, I can attest he gets consistently better loot. You just have to remember that exotics are, like, really rare, and 400% of a small percentage is still small, so you shouldn’t expect one on every odd mob. You still get more green and blue than yellow and orange. But where you would get white and grey without MF, you’ll get green and blue with it. And in the long run, it makes a lot of money worth, selling 2s greens instead of dark claws at 2c.
To sum it up : MF does make exo drop only slightier since they are rare and MF is percentage-based, so observation bias is common. Try the other drops, and you see it definitely works.
Actually, Southsun Cove has taught me that magic find does indeed work. I don’t run any magic find gear normally, and I’ve got more rares and exotics in these past days than I can ever remember. It’s quite dramatic in my experience. Got two exotic drops in two days, compared to three in 500 hours previously.
if it weren’t for the magic find in southsun cove it would’ve been impossible to make 30 gold in 3 days…
I think some people simply don’t know what MF is supposed to do:
I think it works!
Why some people might think is doesn’t is the quantity of good items found.
The assumption by some people is that there is 1 roll on items on a mob.
I think there are 2:
FIRST you get a roll on a mob, wether or NOT you even get anything,
then a SECOND roll to determine (out of the creatures loot table) the rarity of the item(s) received.
When I run around in the world, I get (w/o MF) around 1 rare item a day.
In Southsun I get a rare ever 15-30 min. or so.
So I would tend to say it works fine.
That however doesn’t mean I think it’s a good idea to have it as a stat in the game.
Keep the banners, keep the guild buff – hell keep the GemStore buff, I want you guys to do fine financially! But remove all MF gear – maybe be nice about it at let people trade in their MF exotics for a different set or something.
It’s taught me that Stacking MF is amazingly useful for acquiring crafting mats, greens for the mystic forge, and overall making a lot more money off of vendor trash and a slightly higher average rate of rares.
It’s just not amazingly useful if you want to roll in stacks of rares and exotics every time you go back to town
I almost feel like putting together some MF gear to farm events with now.

Pretty sure Devs stated multiple times that MF doesn´t work on chests or even Vet/Champ+ Mobs. Just normal lootdrops where it is definitely noticeable.
You would think that the first and foremost thing MF would do is push ‘no loot’ and ‘grey loot’ off the table.
Nope.
IF you roll to receive loot, it’s a better chance of getting better loot.
You’re still screwed if you roll consistently ‘no loot’.

This patch certainly made it clear that MF does indeed work.
Southsun taught me something else besides the useless mf stat. That is no matter how much you want something and no matter how hard you will work for it sometimes its better to just give up.
At least im making decent gold now from farming 2 chest events.

Well the no chest part seems right, I got 2 the first fgew minutes it was released so I thought ohhh that’s not too bad, after that none, I hear that from a lot of players on my server :/
ITT: Complete misunderstanding on how randomness and statistics works.
Guys, just because you don’t get consistently better loot with MF doesn’t mean that it doesn’t work. It increases the chance of getting higher-tier loot, but that doesn’t mean that you will always get better loot. Farming for an hour isn’t a large-enough sample size to determine whether MF works or not. MF is only noticeable over long periods of time.

I’m sure in 20 years when no one gives a kitten MF will be proved to be worth it.
Honestly. Up the drop rates. Nobody has time for this.

At which point DR kicks in, if you don’t change things up a bit.
Rotate your characters and mob farming. You’ll notice a drastic difference with MF gear.
For the toast!

You do know MF doesn’t go past 100%…
If you got it set at 200% you are just being even more of a burden to yourself.

Ok, on that I definitely need a Dev Quote from you, or I´ll continue viewing it as yet another MF myth. :/

I’m sure they added that Negotiator 200% MF buff to the game, just to throw out big impressive looking numbers then, right?
For the toast!
I can assure you that at 400% MF you will notice a very large difference then at 0%. Try not to farm more then an hour or two at a time though or you’ll smack into DR.
MF, since it’s a multiplier. should be able to go beyond 100%. I’ve never heard of a ceiling placed upon on it. Why would the dev’s make a 200% buff if it was worthless beyond 100%? If you are going to do it, do it big! :-)
