I made a similar post in suggestions but thought I would make a new one also here, to see if the flood of posts wouldnt bury it. First of all this isn’t a complaint. Cause I knew beforehand that luck and RNG are working here ^^
I play GW2 since the beta and I still love the game. I pretty much sinked some money in gems because Arenanet actually deserves the extra money with this game they made (I actually enjoy it quite a bit). Anyways, that is not the point.
My point is the suggestions I want to make and want to know how others are thinking about it:
We have had some new updates and themed skins now. And in my opinion the best themed update wasn’t Wintersday or Halloween. No, not even the Frost & Fire update (though it was pretty cool to do).
In my opinion SAB, was worked out the best. Kudo’s for the developers who worked on this. But why did I find it the best themed update? Because that we had the option to play SAB many times. KNOWING we would get a skin of a certain weapon of choice. Without putting money or gold in the game.
I know that this is probably something to let people buy gems for with money. In an economic standpoint I see why they do that. But in my opinion you would make the experience of your playerbase much better if there was some sort of token device which for examle, people would get by doing the achievements. You get a token for certain achievements which helped the story for example. Or when you finish events you have a chance to get a token. And for 100 tokens you can buy a weapon skin for choice.
That’s what I liked about SAB. I knew I would get a skin I really wanted by playing the content you I was given. Now it is:
Put Money or put Gold in the game and have some luck to get a skin.
I know in a commercial point of view, why it is done the way they are doing it now.
I think because you want to make some of the skins ‘prestige’. You don’t want everyone to walk with it and this way you also make money of it.
Though I think if you would make something like a token system.. for example get a token only with a daily achievement or special events which have a chance to drop one token a day. Just enough for people to get 1 skin at least if they play the content average to dedicated + you could let the tickets or skins be dropped out of Crates or Monster via the RNG
For example, I really want a Scepter skin of this set. I bought 12 crates, no luck sadly. I have a winters weapons, a fused weapon and such. But no luck in this one sadly. Which doesn’t mean I hate it. I just hoped to get one. While I had the fused ticket after three keys and the Winter’s Day Ticket after one.
TL;DR
So yeah, this is my suggestion. Make a system which was used in SAB, where people have to get tokens which can drop from achievements, daily events, mobs or something else. While also having the chance getting drops in crates by mobs. This way dedicated players would keep playing your content. And not stop after a few days because they have all the achievements.
Hopefully you could implent it in the future! And would love how other players think of this.
