Unfortunately, I have played GW2 for so long even since beta and main’ed one character since release and played my warrior into the ground since he was all I ever needed to run dungeons/dragons etc. I usually am never an alt type of person and when I do I only stick to a few number maybe three at the MOST. I recently started my new character and am level 20 now and went to explore Southsun Cove….

Cool, I get scaled up so I can enjoy the event content even on my new character! Unfortunately, a bigger health pool means nothing when I still get killed in roughly 3 hits or less. In canach’s case, one single mine and I am dead meat. 9 times out of 10 I die so fast I don’t even have a chance to react to what hit me. I understand that the games mechanics differ greatly from other MMOs. I play a new thief, and while squishy, I do dodge very well, and have many mobility skills to help me evade attacks. I use all of my skills and dodges for the most important skills, but at some point you just cannot avoid being hit…. and I die.

I don’t really know why this is even in the game to be honest. It has really made no difference in my game, and has not prolonged my life or increased the quality of my gameplay whatsoever. I end up being even more frustrated than before. I get that my gear is crap because of my level, but again, there is no reason to scale hp if nothing is being fixed in terms of survivability. The “play with your friends, no matter what level” motto really seems silly at this point and I had not realized it until now when I actually WAS the low level friend. Now having an opportunity to experience it and think back to everything Anet had said in terms of all this makes this feel incredibly gimmicky. Maybe it is just me whining too hard. I really did try though, and I really do dodge well and stand back, but death has been pretty inevitable.

I feel as if something more needs to be done so lower level players can survive a bit better and actually ENJOY the content instead of being forced to play on a level even perfection can hardly achieve. The rewards are still the same, low level and scaled to your own, it’s not as if surviving and completing an event in such difficulty will reward someone with completely epic loot.

The difference between Canach from my warrior to my thief was a giant joke really. I would’ve really understood if the dungeon scaled to level and made it MORE DIFFICULT for my warrior, and eased it up a bit for my thief, but having it the way it is makes no sense. It’s alright for me since I am a veteran GW2 player and I have already completed it on a main character, so anything else is icing on the cake, but for players who have just gotten a chance to hop on the gw2 bandwagon and try to enjoy the SSC events? Oh boy, I feel very bad.

Currently it’s possible. Extremely hard, but shouldn’t require you to stand behind 40 other players and come in for a tag or two just because you want to try and enjoy some higher level content as a newbie.

I don’t see how you see a Gimmick here, I just fail to see a correlation between your complaint and a Gimmick. So I’ll ignore that part of your post, sorry.

As for why the Scale up is there, it’s simple. It’s so new players, or people who’ve yet to level to 80 for whatever reason are forced to miss out on new content in patches. I’ve played other MMO’s which release special event’s at capped level and it sucks if you’re not capable of enjoying it just because of your level.

It is also so (as you said) that you can play with your friends. While the scaled up 20 level toon may not be as capable as a real 80 – it has much better odds of survival then an un-scaled 20 (Trust me, I accidentally took a low level character to this zone before this patch and creatures came from across the map to kill me in one hit!), and this is even more the case playing with a group or Zerg.

As for 3 hit kills. Some 80’s don’t get much better then that, depending on their gear and set up. I suggest getting the best gear for your level you can easily acquire and joining a group. I doub’t you will have crazey-big issues after that.

A gimmick to promote the game. As in, hey we’re going to allow you to scale up and play with your friends, but this isnt truly the case, because you still get absolutely thrown down in half a second by mobs at your buddies high level.

This was one of their biggest selling points at initial release was the scaling down and up of levels and dynamic events. The odds of survival are hardly any different, I have been in cursed shore where you cannot scale, and SSC where you do scale and the rate and speed of death is equal. My gear as of my level is the best it can be but unfortunately the only number here scaled is HP, which is the wrong way to go about things and does not help the matter at hand. If you have 2 million HP but only enough defense to mitigate 1/10000th of it you will still fall in a second.
