Anyone else find these tentacles weird, along with the shells on a way which look as if connected? AND the explody kitten? It’s almost as if something is trying to burst out…

Yeah, they were never there before. Seem to have been added with the start of this plot.

They look a bit erotic if you ask me , I had to run through there with my eyes closed . ( well i peaked just a little)

Reminds me of iron man 3, the exploding plants and people…

Theres this one achivement “Defeat the Crazed Karka Queen”. What if the Ancient Karka we killed back in November was just the guardian of the isle/hive or the mate of the Karka Queen? Maybe now Canach modified this Karka Queen and those tentacles come from her?

Or… maybe its simpler? Something went wrong and the explosions from the November patch are being replayed…

I’ve been thinking along similar lines, we will have to wait and see. I don’t have screenshots but there are a lot more of those black tentacles sticking up out of the ground at Captain’s Retreat. They are the same as the tentacles on the new exotic backpack item.

Noticed them since the first time i entered. Stuff is going on there. It might be that we killed just a guardian like others say here and the real boss of the island has yet to show it’s ugly face (considering those tentacles look almost identical to the ones u get from your backpack reward – specially the tips, and the backpack is moving so that indicates those big tentacles are also “alive” …ANet going all hentai on us).

It might also mean that without that karka we killed in the first place, there’s no one to take care of that mountain thing, si it’s collapsing. Something like the karka are brainless without a mastermind and they are doing random stuff now instead of house cleaning. Standard starcraft zerg. Also notice that at the bottom of the pit where the petrified karka thing we killed, there’s water running down to her in the lava pit. That was not there before. It’s like the whole organic mountain is collapsing. What will be after it collapses? nobody knows. If this is indeed true, that would mean ANet is looking to remove the karka from the island (extinct) and make it completely habitable?

Maybe it’s just that, killing the karka has awakened something that they were guarding or keeping at bay (not their queen as stated above..something else other then the karka). Now without the organized karka there, the mysterious hentai tentacle monster is free to poke every female character that dares enter the cave’o’doom’and’…stuff.

There’s also a theory where, for the past months after we killed the karka and nobody had anything to do there anymore, mystical double rainbow ponies have been mating inside that mountain and what u see there is residue.

All these theories lead the same conclusion: Nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.

In the absence of orbital missile platforms I’d like this chapter to end with intentionally causing a volcanic eruption in the hive that clears out all the Karka-infected areas with the magma flow and leaves the island as a peaceful tropical island (that’s covered in liquid fire on one half, gotta make concessions there).

Well clearly we see shells sticking out of the side of the walls. As you can see from the first image, they cross underneath the platform, implying they are something a little more than random shells, but rather something attached.

It is odd though. Some of them are cracked open, and you can see organic stuff.

The tentacles remind me of the mursaat. Perhaps the asuran experiments on the mursaat from back in the day had something to do with the karka.

… if those tentacles are coming from the hive, does that mean the hive is a living thing? 0_o

Those are apparently Kraken tentacles and currently a cliffhanger. In the Solid Ocean Fractal, Jade Maw (a kraken) attacks using these tentacles. It’s scary and artistic in my opinion. This seems to have something to do with Mursaat, who had similar—albeit fuzzier—backs in GW1. The Sclerite back is amazing; I wear it to strike fear in my enemies hearts.
