but on a more serious note, this time gate is very frustrating, because many players like me and my entire guild don’t play open world content much, preferring dungeons. requiring one invasion for plot reasons, okay, fine, but five hours of foot tapping is a bit much.

i’ve heard the dungeon is great! i want to play it! but i’m not the kind of player who enjoys throwing fireballs at champs from the back of the zerg. why force players like me to do it for five hours? seems against the “play as you want” mantra of the rest of the game’s design.

If you have anyone who has done it already, they can pull you in. Not meant as a justification or defense of the decision (I don’t particularly like it either, since there’s no variation from one set of invasions to the next so it’s just 5 hours of the same thing), just something you should know if you can work around it.

There are 336 hours that this content will be live (presumably). The events only last 45 minutes max. Times that by 5 you’ll get just under 4 hours. I’m sure you’ll manage if you don’t get too see all of the content tonight.

Plus you can group with others who have it unlocked already.

This sounds more of a social problem than a gameplay problem. If no one else in your guild is willing to unlock the dungeon, then it’s their fault, not Arena Nets.

Sorry if that comes off as harsh, but they could of just as easily required everyone to complete the requirements.

it’s not a social problem at all, there’s no conflict between my guildmates and I. they all commiserate with me and are just as impatient to see the new dungeon. The only reason they don’t unlock it is i logged on first and i’m farther ahead. It’s a design problem, because it’s forcing a group of players (people who don’t like open world content) to draw straws to be the ones who gain access to the dungeon for everyone else in this group.

the point i’m trying to make is a five hour time gate involving content a particular demographic doesn’t want to play is poor design, and no number of work-arounds justifies it.

i already addressed that. it’s completely besides the point that i have all week, because i still have to sit through five hours of content i don’t like, even if i put some of it off for later. It’s further besides the point, because time gating like this breaks anet’s usual mantra of “play the content you like”.

you dont have to be in the back of a zerg in fact you’ll be more helpfull if you find deserted events and do those with 2-5 man. that way its both slightly more challenging/fun and you get less loot because of how the events scale…ow w8 thats not a goodd thing…. but its more fun

it was sort of fun for me the first time (I actually play a very aggressive and active build), but i’m just not the kind of person who enjoys this kind of content long term. Maybe other people do, and that’s 100% fine, the content is there for them to enjoy. But people like me don’t really, but we still have to play an awful lot of it.
