Invasion Zones
It’d be really nice if we could see a schedule for at least the last 2 days before the invasions end. I’ve been at 12/13 invasions for 5 days now. I play for 3-4 hours per day, at random times, and I have not yet seen my last missing map.
Please give us a schedule so I can plan accordingly to finish my achievement.
I have to agree with most of the sentiment in this thread. Why was the correct way to finish these meta-events not released right away? Even worse, we have to search all over the forums to find answers to questions.
Why are there only 13 zones? And why do we have to do all 13 zones? And why do we not consistently get credit for zones when we do them? And why do we not have a tracker for this buggy achievement?
I am extremely, extremely disappoint.
Looks like Harathi Highlands hit today at midnight, 2 am and 5 am my time. Looks like it is a no go for today on that one….
I would like to see ANet post the rotating schedule for each day of the event because it would allow us to plan a bit better on when we should be in to get the areas we need. They could even put a link to it in the achievement panel for that.
I also liked the suggestion I saw about putting a list of all the maps involved and which ones you have completed with a check mark. I would also like to see the name of the map highlight for the duration it is active.
I do love some aspects of this event. I like the mass fighting perpetual zerg. I am a hack’n slash junky. But a lot of different folks have put their finger right on some core problems:
1. Timing:
a. if you miss your start time you are out of luck unless you know someone who made it into the event.
b. unlike almost every other release, this one is very specifically clock bound (clockwork??) so that players have to check in on the top of the hour. The advantage is that there is some predictability, we know when to find the next event. The down side is that we are tied to the clock checking in hourly if you need 1-2 maps..
c. I really enjoyed the Pavilion with its never ending combat. But some of that enjoyment came from the ability to hop in when I had time and to leave when I was out of time. With the current release that is not the case. participation in the event is rigid. I can’t just hop in when I want, I have to game on a schedule, and that is a schedule that cannot take into account family, work, real life responsibilities.
2. Randomized Rotation:
a. this is more “realistic” I guess. No opponent with half a brain is going to announce: I am gonna come at 12:00 A.M. and attack you at x location. However no matter how much we suspend disbelief, we are also all gamers with real life outside GW2, kitten many have pointed out here. Many of us are die hard gamers, we genuinely desire to complete most or all of the content as it comes out, or this wouldn’t be a matter of so much angst.
b. Like many, I have been tracking which maps I have completed, at least since I realized it would be necessary, but it would be nice in this and in many other achievement categories (Divemaster anybody?) to be able to isolate which ones have actually been credited towards the achievements and which ones have not despite what we may have thought as we participated. But with a random schedule (see I got back to my point on randomized rotation) gamers cannot even work backwards to isolate which maps one has or has not done.
I offer no solutions. Plenty have already been posted. I am simply trying to organize both what has already been said and my own opinions into an organized fashion. I assume that the developers actually browse these posts from time to time because we do see responses, even on this one previously. Perhaps this might help as feedback for them to consider how they implement other future events.

Nicely said, Moira.
I also enjoyed the Pavilion and have been surprised that no one has returned there to continue the combats. Every time I have been in it is nearly empty which is sad. It was great fun to see an event start and everyone head out. I have to assume the LS rewards are currently more lucrative which is why no one has come back….
- Every map will be invaded at least once per day, probably twice. In some cases, three times.
…- If you play at the same time every day, you will see all 13 maps by the end of the Clockwork Chaos release.
I’ve done all 13 maps and I’m stuck at 12/13. How could you FAIL that badly.
I don’t want to do the invasions anymore. They BORE and ANNOY the kitten out of me. At this point ANet should just give everyone the achievement and admit they are too stupid to program a counter correctly.

since the release of this I have played every day, did several maps each day, and Iron Marshes hasn’t shown up once

I agree with this so very much. Well, maybe not everyone should get the achievement. Change it to 10 maps instead of 13. That way there’s lee-way for stupid bugs and bad communication.
Yea im also missing Iron March, i am online 24/7 never have seen that one tough.
Harathi Highlands four times today! I finally was able to get the one I needed, yippee! I never expected it to show that many times in one day. Looking back at the other days posted that one was one of the rarer ones:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scarlet%27s_Minions_Invade!/history
Iron Marches looks like it also has not been showing up the last couple of days so I would suspect it may suddenly start showing a bit more. Keep the faith.

Seems like an oversight as they have so many other trackers for things. When it comes to adding “ease of use” for users, it’s a big plus for the developer… duh.
Does anybody know of a server that completes the Frostgorge map? On Tarnished Coast we’re plagued by bugged portals and greedy Cmdr farmers and can never get an invasion complete for it. Thanks.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.

It’s ignorant kittens like you that have made it so this hasn’t been fixed. There was a bug, or at the very least bad communication, for getting credit. I kept a record and didn’t realize the achievement was off until later, after thinking I had done 7 or 8 maps.
A little off subject, but given the time needed and in some cases luck of the draw, it would have been nice for a title to be associated with the Invasion Canceler achievement.

There should be a way built into the achievement panel. In my world of programming, the current method would have never seen the light of day. the brass would never approve it. Anet is competent and knows what to do, the problem is the 2 week schedule they have locked themselves into. If it was monthly they would have more time for testing and polishing.
Anyone that says “Oh I’d quit if it was monthly..” is just not being honest. 90% of the people that play MMOs play more than one. The industry knows this, and doesn’t care. You can’t have all the players attention all the time.
(edited by Evon Skyfyre.9673)
I spend way too much money in the gem store, yet with the ridiculous grinding of the past two events, spamming us with buggy content too often (once a month would be much nicer), etc. is driving me away. Good job at driving customers who help pay your bills away anet!
A little off subject, but given the time needed and in some cases luck of the draw, it would have been nice for a title to be associated with the Invasion Canceler achievement.
Yeah because having luck in not getting bugged and having luck in getting all the maps you need to pop when you’re available really deserves a title. I don’t think Anet has EVER had a title for something because of luck. At least they didn’t in GW1. Even the LUCKY title was grind, not luck.

I’ve literally seen Gendarran fields be invaded twice in 3 hours. I’ve logged on about the same time in the day and at various times in the day and always see the same maps (up until today where I actually stayed on for 5 hours straight).
This event requires people to stay on for several hours in a row in hopes to get new maps. Very poor design, and I hope that message is taken home on this.
Suggestion: Multiple maps invaded at the same time, giving a chance for people to choose which one they need, or a set schedule so that people can find out when they need to log in to do an invasion on a particular map.
Requiring long periods of time constantly logged in to monitor these events ruins the event.
I copped Gendarran twice in 3 hours last night too, actually I can pretty much bet on getting it again when i get home from work as well
- Every map will be invaded at least once per day, probably twice.
In other words, people who need a specific map to complete an achievement “only” need to be online for 11 hours a day (possibly 23) ?
Come on, achievements are supposed to be achievements. Waiting for a RNG to spit out the number (or map) that you need isn’t really an achievement.
By all means require people to close X number of portals, but don’t make achievements depend on which portals we close, when we have no control over which ones will be opened in the first place.
It’s bad enough that players keep getting sent to overflows where “the invasion is not active” (basically meaning that, for one hour, they can’t advance their progress at all).
This is a really lame way to try to boost your concurrent user stats.
(edited by Account.9832)
This has to have been a ploy from Arenanet to make the game feel more lively. People still need to get missing map participation? They hang around all day waiting for RNG to pop out map.
Arenanet profits, “Hey we’ve reached a new high concurrent user for this themed content, more people are playing!”. Statistics look nice showing high numbers of players still struggling to get specific map completions by constantly hanging around.
Otherwise I have no idea why they came up with such an achievement. They may as well included a dungeon that is only open at 6pm-7pm, if they couldn’t foresee that people would be having difficulty not being on 24/7.
Those that kitten about not being able to keep track…. just make a word document…. duh,i did that with dungeons too… how DARE Anet make us think for ourselves
I have made such a list. It has 13 names on it. I have 12/13. Which one am I missing?
Been at 12/13 for the majority of the event, haven’t seen Frostgorge pop no matter how long I play.
Finished the meta achievement via dailies, don’t particularly care if it pops anymore, but the achievement points would be nice.
Lornar’s Pass and Fields of Ruin seem to pop up a LOT though, back to back even.
peasants had no bread and who responded: “Let them eat brioche.”
For me, I feel pretty strongly that the ONLY reason I completed 13/13 is because I was able to log into the game from a machine at work and check the invasion every hour. I don’t mind achievements like Liadri that can be completed any time and only requires some practice and skill. However, achievements based on randomness and as result a required amount of time online are not good and will inevitably lead to player frustration.

So I have a problem, either the information above is incorrect or there is a bug in your code, or possibly the wiki is incorrect. So if anyone has any more information let me know.
From what I can tell there is no possible way that all 13 maps will rotate at the following UTC times: 1, 2, 7, 14, 15, and 19. Because there have been duplicate events that have spawned during that time block. There are only 13 effective days and 13 maps in the rotation so any duplicates would prevent that hour block from being able to rotate through all 13 maps.
Still stuck at 12/13

Can you explain why there are only 13 effective days? There are 14 days between patches +/- time of day when patch occurs. There will be 1 duplicate zone in each time slot.
I hope Anet uses this horrible implementation of event rotation and learns to never do this again.
What a crappy thing to do to your players anet. I seriously doubt Anet tests their own content from the perspective of a player. The invasion achievement is a joke for somebody that doesn’t want to camp the zone they need for 24 hours straight.
Have done Fireheart Rise 3 times now, failed every time, still 12/13, still no friend of flame and frost…
This really isn’t an achievement anymore. This is just waiting for the right area will spawn, and hoping there will be enough commanders to keep people from zerging too badly.
Beating Liadri made me feel proud and fuzzy inside, this is just… lame.
Luckily next patch will be SAB again. I prefer fun content over grindy content.
Kaineng, 12/13 for almost a week. On most days AEST, not seen Fireheart Rise pop once. The time it takes to complete the meta event is too long as it is.
Correction: 9/13
(edited by Siliconmana.3816)
I’ve literally had my computer on for the past 30 hours monitoring these events. I need Fireheart Rise, and the last time it appeared was on 8/28 at 23:00 UTC. It didn’t appear once on 8/29 so the previous information that every map would appear at least once per day is false.
Those that kitten about not being able to keep track…. just make a word document…. duh,i did that with dungeons too… how DARE Anet make us think for ourselves
That’s a really clueless comment. Keeping track has nothing to do with it. LOTS of us have kept track of every zone we were in and that doesn’t tell us anything. I’ve been in every zone multiple times, I’m sitting at 12/13, and don’t have a clue which one I didn’t get credit for.
Next time think before you try to be cute.

Mmmmm , the issue is not so much not know what maps you have done, Yes we can all use word or a pen a and paper, It’s the issue of what ones your have completed.
The other night I went into multiple maps and DC errors, causing some of those maps not to be completed. I have no Idea which ones counted and which ones didn’t so now I have do all those maps again
Worst “achievement” ever. Like many others I approached this with pen and paper only to realize after I cataloged 10 completions that I only received credit for 9 of them. I spent the next several days in misery repeating every stupid event in an attempt to find out which one of the 10 maps that I had completed bugged out on me. Racing home from work, scheduling things so that I can be logged on to figure out which map was in the rotation next, etc…. It is not healthy.
I finally finished it tonight but I can honestly say that this one drove me crazy. I have completed every single event and LS Story achievement to date and because of an out of town wedding this weekend I honestly thought I wasn’t going to get this one. I seriously contemplated quitting the game entirely yesterday for the first time. Playing was no longer fun for me. That is not good…. It is clear that the achievement system is too time consuming and too random. Please do not do anything like this ever again. Keep them simple and stupid at least for the temporary content and do not put RNG time constraints in place.

Simply tracking which maps are we missing would be tremendous! Like tracking which goggles we used/didn’t use, tracking which dungeon paths we did/didn’t do and a whole plethora of similar achievements, past and future.

The crazy stupid part about all of this is that ANet already DOES track what they gave us credit for. I’m 12/13 on the zone invasions, so ANet knows exactly which ones they have given me credit for. They just were too clueless to anticipate that we might need that information, but it couldn’t have been that difficult to write some code to tell us … even as an after-the-fact patch.
It would be different if so many aspects of these invasions weren’t bugged, or properly communicated up front (like which fights actually give you credit for the completion), but of course they struck out there as well. That seems to be the ongoing story of GW2 … nice ideas and bad execution.

I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but, wow. This is actually something Blizzard got right. I now realize I was taking their achievement tracking for granted.
I’ve done all 13 zones, but am at 12/13. So now I have to do all 13 again and just hope the bugged one is one of the first…please give us a list of zones Anet.
I have been waiting all day for MT Maelstrom what is up with it not showing up a whole day. I looked at the link for zones and it has not showed up for a long time.

Rift did as well. All of their achievements showed exactly what you needed to do, which pieces you had completed, and which you hadn’t. They had LOTS of available achievements, and while a very few were bugged such that you couldn’t reliably do them, I don’t remember a single one where you didn’t get credit for them if you did.
ANet seems to be breaking new ground here … kind of like building a grade school on top of an ancient Druid burial ground.

I don’t think it really matters anymore. As best I can tell, I also need Mount Maelstrom for completion and it always fails. Tonight we started the third wave with almost 20 minutes left and at best finished two thirds of it before time ran out. The zergs just got larger and farmed harder (hard to blame them if they don’t care about the achievements), and Mount Maelstrom has so many difficult-to-access spots on the map that most don’t even bother trying to hit the minions there. The situation has gotten progressively worse as the days have passed and fewer people needed completion, and at this point I have zero confidence that we will be able to complete this zone even if it pops every three hours.
It’s a really kittened up game design all the way around.

Thanks for posting the link mjasa. There’s 3 days at least where Fireheart Rise has not appeared in list and other times would be at unsuitable times AEST.
Anyway, 9/13 still (not 12/13) after Mt Malstrom failed and didn’t update. Was there with 29 min remaining so plenty of time.
The event has to be bugged at least for some. The drops are good, otherwise, just so frustrating and insanely boring….zzzzzzz
Enough mindless hours of grinding!
As others have said, I also have a RL and GW does not rule it.

I’m pretty sure you don’t need to succeed in an invasion for it to count. I am on 12/13 (waiting for Frostgorge to appear for several days) and I succeeded around 3 times in total as far as I remember.

You don’t actually have to succeed on the invasion to get credit.
If I jump in an area, tag a few champs and events for 5-10 minutes, then afk until the end I get credit.

Yeah I saw every map invaded. But I’m still stuck at 11/13 because of random disconnects and game crashes.
My results from today:
05:00 UTC Fields of Ruin: random disconnect
08:00 UTC Sparkfly Fen: participated from start to end but it did not count towards the achievement
11:00 UTC Sparkfly Fen: CtD at 1 minute left (did get the achievement though)
15:00 UTC Iron Marches: random disconnect 20 minutes into the event with no chance to get the achievement
I would have completed the achievement days ago if not for those bugs.
I gave up with the kittens, can’t be bothered, I’m starting to lose interest,
Stuck on 12/13 here. I really wish we knew exactly what we needed to do/have left to finish the achievement..
I liked the idea of invasions, but I feel the strict limitations and the lack of proper incentive to win kind of took away from the idea. The Tequatl changes sound like a good direction though. Rewards for winning far outweigh the rewards for losing.
