Live Events unfair to new players?
Well, why not go out there and explore then? Aside from LS stuff taking place it’s also really fun to see some of the zones and explore them.
I do not think these events are for new players.
I also do not have 100% with all chars, but I managed to do them with those chars anyway.
I don’t mind going to new area’s I just have this thing where I don’t like going to new area’s before exploring them completely.
This whole live event seems to aimed at the 100% explored guys so it’s really limited to what I could do, Gundaran fields has been the 1st and last area I did for this event. No idea where to go now because I haven’t found the area’s yet.
Do what I did, go to all areas and just run through it to have most waypoints. It does not take long and during such an invasion you unlock more areas. You could even just do 1 waypoint so you can get in the event. I see many people running to the next area instead of using waypoints.
Lowest Common Denominator design. Should all the living story content be completable by players who have nothing, have done nothing, have gone nowhere, and can do little? In some ways the living story is open to all. Any player can jump into the storyline at any point and level scaling lets players complete the stories. This invasion however gets more breadth, importance, and variety by going to zones all around Tyria and giving them new life for an hour.
Don’t me wrong the guys with 100% exploration should be able to go to those area’s in these event if they wish but the events should also include at least 1 commonly unlocked area.
What do you think?
I think these are commonly unlocked areas now. The game has been out a year so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect people to have been around the game world by now. Sure, not everyone will be able to participate (at any time there are some people who have only just bought the game, for example) but so long as you’ve been to the zones (and are a suitable level) you can participate in them, it just might take you longer to get to some events in some zones.
Just get to each zone and grab a few waypoints in each, you don’t need 100% world completion for this event and the rewards are worth it (it’ll help for future events too).
I made some invasions having only 1 waypoint unlocked. The only regions, where this really is a problem, are mt. maelstrom and fireheart rise due to simply being monstrously big.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Playstyle is playstyle. If I’m high enough level to get through a zone unempeded then unlocking all the waypoints is my first priority. Having them available isn’t just nice for events but when a guildie needs help, I can get there quickly. Even if I’m on level with the map and have to do some fighting I still want to unlock as much as possible first and then go back and do the hearts. Knowlege is power and map knowlege is priceless.
I have 511 out of 512 wp unlocked on my gaurdian and have only 77% of the world map unlocked. And have been playing for less then a year. It wasn’t hard to just run through zones and pick up the wp’s.

One of the reasons is probably because the invasions are permanent so even if someone miss one now they can still do it in the future.
I try not to worry about missing too much. I came back during the election starting and did a bit of the achievements for it. I kept leveling. With QJ I sought out all the achievements for it and was successful. I had to get an escort to one or two of my balloon towers. I completely skipped the Gauntlet as I was only level 40 or so when QJ dropped. I got a lot of XP exploring and doing the events.
Now with CC, I have been doing invasions and achievements and am at level 76. I think I might be able to finish up the CC achieves, but if not, so be it.
With the LS being temporary and every changing I have learned to accept that I just might miss some achievements. It is a good state to be in because it makes the game fun and less stressful.
Legacy of Elijah (LoE) – Sanctum of Rall
So I have being playing the game since the head start, or even the Beta however I still haven’t explored 100% of the world, so some of these events are either hidden from me or I am forced to travel somewhere I have not been.
For example the *25 balloon rides" part of the quest forced me to explore 3 new area’s and now these portals appeared in 2 area’s that I cannot see/find because I have no visited those area’s and have no clue where to look.
Don’t me wrong the guys with 100% exploration should be able to go to those area’s in these event if they wish but the events should also include at least 1 commonly unlocked area.
What do you think?
Let me respond to your title question with a couple of my own:
I made a brand new character, and spent 10 minutes to get through the opening cinematics and battle.
1) Is it fair that I can’t explore and farm Orr with my level 1?
I want to fight and kill Zhaitan with my new level 1.
2) Is it fair that I need to complete the Story Mode in order to get to the final boss battle?
New players dont need event like this, they have so much left to explore and do in the game, but older players need the living world so they have new stuff to do
46% on my main (I know, I’m inferior to all of you) and I was never barred from an invasion. These events would be seriously held back if they were designed for 100% of characters to play right away.
There will (hopefully) always be new players joining the game. They can anticipate joining in interesting stuff down the line. Smooth Penguin made the point very well. You don’t get to the end stuff the moment you start, or you will be boooooored in minutes.
I’m divided on this. On the one hand, I agree that newly created characters shouldn’t be able to do end-game content immediately, which is what the Living Story is ostensibly supposed to be.
On the other hand, previous Living Story content like Flame & Frost and Lost Shores either took place in low-level zones, or scaled you up so you could take part in the content anyway. Queen’s Jubilee and Clockwork Chaos is a departure from that trend.
It wouldn’t concern me in the slightest but for the fact that nearly all of the Living Story is temporary content. If I was a new player, I would really, really hate coming to the party late only to find that there’s some things I will never get to experience because they were one time events.
The title of this thread seems to have nothing to do with the OP’s actual situation. He has been playing since Head Start. He is not a new player.
