One of the most frustrating and infuriating parts of the present Clockwork Chaos event is the inability to return to the invasion instance should you suffer a disconnection owing to, for example, an interrupted broadband signal.

After it happened the first time, I joined a party on entering the event every time – only to find that if I did DC, I STILL couldn’t get back to the invasion instance I was in previously.

It is bad enough if I am DCed after the ten-minute deadline – but it is soul-crushing when it happens near the end of the 45-minute period. No rewards, no achievement updates and always the threat that it might happen again next time.

Surely there is a way of coding in a grace period for getting back into the instance should a player become DCed. Come on Anet – this is basic stuff!

Or even worse..when the client crashes as it tends to do quite often. I was 35 mins into the event and so, got no final reward or any progress on the achievement/quest line

This just happened to me – event crashed out, “client lost connection”, and joining back in, different instance – frustrating, since there were chests and loot “sparklies” on the ground ready to be picked up when DC occurred (we’d just finished an invasion phase boss).

Third time tonight. Each one after half an hour of working towards the event, only yo have the client crash and get credit for nothing.

I had the client crash (almost a minute of flashing skill buttons, everybody just standing around at my screen instead of fighting, followed by a black screen and the message that the game lost connection with the server) in the last phase of an invasion twice last night. Incredibly frustrating. Log back on only to get into an overflow without the event. Message in the top right of the screen telling me to get back to my own world (ANet’s way to show me a middle finger it seems, very funny…)
Also had a whole series of these crashes while doing the Playhouse with guildies and although I never got downed or killed, the fact that I had to reconnect and re-enter the dungeon apparently prevented me from getting the perfect playhouse achievement.
At least when doing the playhouse you CAN reconnect and still finish it but these DCs messing up achievements is ruining a lot of fun.
Additional info: it’s just the game losing connection, Teamspeak and webbrowser still work during these freezes/crashes (but don’t cause them, the crashes also occur when nothing else is using my internet connection). And my guildies all were fine and completed one invasion after the other, while I’ve spent enough time to finish 5 invasions but am still stuck at 3 completed for Vorpp.
Oh and another fun thing, when I have one of these freezes that prelude a crash, I can run around, my skills won’t trigger for me but my guildies still see me move and shoot and stuff. So the server is at least registering what I do, it just doesn’t feed it back to me.

Its still happening to me I’ve not been able to complete an event the last three times I’ve tried..each time I get client loses connection 30 minutes in and when I come back…I’m somewhere else..I won’t be doing this event sadly if I cannot even get the five needed to open my portal…

Indeed… there should be a cooldown timer to let you back into the zone you were in before player in query can “rush in to the final boss fight and get credit for something they didn’t do”. Had this problem a few mintues ago… but I was logged into an overflow server in the middle of a event that if I didn’t run for me life would have proved most lethal…

Well if you are going to Seattle next week for the event: Time to Protest!

One way to prevent it, at least. Join a group, if you don’t know the rest of the people in group, add them to the friends list. At least once when a friend disconnected (in a dungeon) when he logged back in he was still grouped and in the dungeon, but I’ve only have that happen once, maybe it was a glitch and not how it’s supposed to happen. If you’re not grouped when you come back, whisper them to add you to group again (which is why I suggest to friend them), go to the map, and join group in the overflow. Since anyone that goes into the map after 10 minutes goes to a different overflow without the event, your place should still be there for as long as the invasion is happening and you should be able to rejoin.

Alternatively you can just ask in guild chat (if you’re in a guild) for anyone doing the event that has room for one more in their group, at least 3 guildies joined me in an event in progress (1 had disconnected, 2 just logged in late) when the invasion had 15 minutes left, and got credit when it ended.

I agree. This event has so far been incredibly frustrating. I’ve spent about as much time dealing with disconnects and ending up in the ‘wrong’ overflow and rubber-banding and all the rest as I have actually playing the game.

The really annoying part is I thought we’d covered all this almost a year ago with the karka event and established quite firmly that encouraging everyone on a server to go to the same zone at the same time was a really bad idea and something Anet wouldn’t ever try again.

In theory this one is better because it’s not one-time only so if you’re “unlucky” you can “just” spend another hour trying again. In practice…not so much. Especially when your playtime is already limited and an hour is a significant chunk to waste.

My client has NEVER crashed….you have some technical issue that needs sorting. I’ve certanly had network lag issues (son streaming a video or downloading something) and certainly had ISP connection issues that knocked me off, but the Client itself is quite stable on my hardware.

It would be nice if they put in place a reconnect feature like they did in GW1….but I think it was like 2 years into the game before they figured out how to do it properly. I’m guessing that’s a bit more difficult to do with +50 clients connected to a world rather than 8 connected to an instance…..

Anet, this is really frustrating. I thank you all for a great game and being able to do these events is great… when people aren’t being disconnected for whatever reason. I hope I get an official answer for this, though I realize I may not, but is there any work on a grace period or reconnect feature for people who disconnect during a living story event? It’s not fair for me, and others, to spend their time on lengthy events when we are inadvertently punished when internet/computer issues take place. I think it’s unfair for people to say, “Just wait another 45 minutes.” My time is important, as everyone should feel for themselves, and I don’t like being unable to re-enter an event that I participated in because of things that are out of my control.

I’ve looked into this further and a solution does exist. You need to group with someone in the Event Zone and make sure to add them to your Friend list. You should be able to rejoin your group (in the same zone) when you are DCed.

There is a reconnect system, but in GW1 you likely ALWAYS in a party in the instanced areas, so that party held open the instance for a short time for you to reconnect. You must be in a group in GW2 for this same type system to work (and at least one of the group members MUST be in your friends list for you to be able to jump to the group when you reconnect).

I have no idea if it is possible for ANet to hold your place on a map in a non-group situation, but since the feature exists when you group, I doubt they are trying to put it in place.

…hey I noticed if you turn the player limit cap to “Medium” or lower (assuming your computer’s power is fine otherwise) then most lag/disconnect issues go away.

For some reason player limits higher then Medium in a combat situation are unstable and will likely disconnect you. This is probably because the Internet can only handle so much transfer at the speed needed to prevent a failure and whatever that limit is Medium seems to be “on the edge” of it therefore.
