I play a Charr. Friends of mine play Norns, Sylvari, Asura, some human. Why though, are we being forced to care about a human Queen for a month? Go to DR to see the Queen’s fancy new Arena, go hear her talk about stuff.

Like why should I, as a Charr, care about anything this human political figure has to say? Why do I have to get a miniature of her? Why does DR get a mini LA crafting area (That every city should have – and should have free of charge) while the rest of the cities still have no point to going to them?

I guess I’m just a little irritated to see every new event demand me give a darn about humans and nothing else. Meanwhile, Black Citadel, The Grove, Hoelbrak, and Rata Sum are complete ghost towns.

That’s true, I didn’t consider the SAB because it was more of a mini game than actual story content for the Asura.

Flame and Frost definitely gave us some Norn and Charr things to do as well… they just weren’t made into city-hub like stories.

We need more Sylvari stuff and actual story content for Asura! hehe

Hopefully it’s the start of a rotating trend where we get content for each race.

So every new month we can pretend to care about another race that celebrates something else that’s equally unimportant? The point is that everybody is basically being forced to go and care about a race that not everybody cares about or plays. If I wanted to hear about the Queen every day I’d play a human.

Not to mention the fact that because of the new Royal Terrace in DR, you better believe every city will get one. This should already be something every city has – and should be there for free. Anet should encourage people to use their races cities – not ensure they all just hang around Lion’s Arch all day.

This was a big problem with GW1 as well. Every main city of the game was dead except for Lion’s Arch (in Tyria, anyway). They should want Charr to hang out in the Black Citadel – Asura to hang out in Rata sum, etc.

Like make the “mini LA” areas in each city only available to that specific race. That’d keep it “exclusive” while still being open to everybody of that race so that they have somewhere else to be other than Lion’s Arch.

Yeah flame and frost was along time about the norn/charr we were in both their capital cities. It was a good story and now it’s time for the dying out human race to show off their fancy watchwork tech they had made to show they still had some fight left in them. So they invited all the races to come partake in the arenas to test their strength in battle!

Those stories weren’t ABOUT the Norn or the Charr though it was about the flame legion and the dredge forming an alliance that was a threat to Tyria and just started in those areas.

This event, and the next one, appear to be about nothing more than a Queen of the humans celebrating her reign. Why should I care? Why is this being forced on everyone? Once again, if I wanted to care about this kind of stuff I would play a human and do their personal story.

I kind of agree with this. I could understand if there was a cutscene from our race’s leadership that sent us as well as whomever they had sent to the festivities to ensure everything runs smoothly. I highly doubt Rytlock or the other tribunes of the Charr High Legions will rely solely on Rox to represent the Black Citadel especially with what occurred at Lion’s Arch.

They can’t make a content that involves all 5 races at the same time every 2 weeks.

And with flame and frost we had conversations with Rytlock, Knut Whitebear, Eir, we got 2 new allies, a norn and a charr, Braham and Rox, and the events and dungeons were about saving norns/charrs and pushing the Molten guys.

I mean, she’s probably the most important political leader of any race in Tyria (though the Pale Tree does play a bigger role wrt Zhaitan), and the truce with the Charr (in which she is a key player) is probably the most important non-Dragon storyline in Tyria.

I’m not saying this is necessarily the direction they should have gone with the Living Story or anything, reasonable minds can disagree. But if you think she’s only an important character to humans then you’re overlooking a lot.

I found it ironic that the Living Story events that took place in Lion’s Arch, the racial diversity capital of Tyria, focused on Kasmeer, Marjory, Kiel and Mai – all human females.

There is a huge bias towards humans in GW2. Most players play them, most armour is designed for them (sucks to be a charr) and the story is now revolving around them. Hopefully soon we will see less of a focus on the humans and more integration of the other races. We still don’t have a sylvari or asuran protagonist in the Living Story.

Funny, for about four months the two major characters focused on were a male norn and a female charr.

With the cut throat politics it was a male charr (who my opinion was more interesting) and a human female.

And between those two, we had a male Sylvari villain as the focus of the plot.

Once again, Anet can’t win with you people. You can be sure this same topic will appear when we eventually get a major focus on Sylvari for example and they’ll probably bring up Trahearne.

Oh, and lets not forget the Jenna is just as important to the Charr as she is to Humanity due to the truce.

Those threats that revolved around the Molten Alliance had nothing to do with the Norn or Charr except for that those are the first of the major races to have been attacked by the new alliance.

Flame and Frost is a relic from the early days of the Living Story and it shows. It amounts to two story missions, a few cut scenes and a dungeon. Throw in some generic events and sign posts and you have several months of content which amount to the same as a single month once the teams were expanded and we got two updates a month. Rox and Braham were the focus of Flame and Frost, but Flame and Frost is about as big as a single month’s worth of content by current standards.

Ok saving Charr and Norn and Grawl and other race refugees was not a focus on those races. It was a focus on a threat to Tyria and if they weren’t stopped it would be more than just the Charr and Norn that were being displaced, it would have eventually spread to Humans Asura and Sylvari as well.

It makes sense that dredge and flame legion would focus on hitting the races of those regions first. Flame legion are predominantly Ascalon – so they hit the Charr first.

Dredge are (pretty much only) found in the Shiverpeaks – so naturally Norns being the closest to them were hit first.

It wasn’t focused on Charr or Norn as a storyline though – and the storyline itself was more or less an experiment anyway. But the point of the story was not “Well, better go save the Charr and the Norns” it was “Well we better stop the molten alliance before they start doing damage to more than just the people they’ve already done damage to.”

Sylvari as a race are kind of the main characters of the base game, though. They’re the driving force behind a lot of the personal story, so they’re already pretty central. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were low on the list of Living Story focuses.

I also want to see a giant Asuran experiment go terribly wrong to the point of all races needing to help contain it for fear of collapsing all of Tyria or something along those lines. The closest we will get to that though is likely going to be in the Thaumanova Reactor fractal… which I will be checking out once it’s in game.

The point I’m trying to make here is that unless something epic comes from it (ie: we’re allowed passage to Cantha, Crystal Desert, Elona, Tengu start talking to us, etc.) we should not have any race specific living story events that are a month long. We get it, ArenaNet loves the humans in GW2 but enough is enough already.

The Sylvari got loads of spotlight in the personal story for every race, I don’t want to hear it. Everyone had to follow Trahearne, everyone had to go see the Pale Tree.

Sylvari based=/=Sylvari in it
The only thing based around the sylvari in the personal story if you were not a sylvari was going to the pale tree, iirc. I want a living story based around problems in the Magumaa or the Nightmare Court allying with the inquest.

I also want to see a giant Asuran experiment go terribly wrong

……You haven’t seen 1000 of these already? Ok, well one more is on the way it’s called the Thumanova Reactor Fractal.

Lets see, asura were the middle of 2/3 updates (SAB and southsun depending on if you see the 2 updates of it as 1 or seperate points), Sylvair were in one (southsun), Charr and Norn shared a long term update and were important in Dragon bash/first time Ablades come (so 1 for norn 2 for Charr) and humans got second part of Ablades and now Queens that they again share with Charr plot (rytlock and roxs involvement).
Overall Charr got the most focus followed by humans then asura then sylvari then norn.

When life gives you lemon, ask if its from a anime or manga.

I did mention that fractal… you just failed to quote that.

Yes, we have seen it on small scale and some in personal story… I just really like the idea and it is a central quality to the experimental nature of the Asura.

You don’t care about Tyria. Interisting.

Why though, are we being forced to care about a human Queen for a month?

The point is that everybody is basically being forced to go and care about a race that not everybody cares about or plays.

Why is this being forced on everyone?

Someday I hope this forum learns what it actually means to be forced to do something, but my expectation is low.

i have a feeling the complaints on this thread are just ppl that are looking to complain , a story is going to be around one thing or another , try to actually ENJOY the story perhaps? i mean charr ambasadors are there , norn , asura sylvari. just cause this part of the LS is around the queen and humans doesnt mean that every single one will.

Eh, I commented because while I haven’t actually minded this story I do want more focus on the other races.

I say this with an understanding of my own personal bias against humans in fantasy MMOs though. I just find humans fairly boring in fantasy MMOs. Here’s hoping the speech Jennah gives leads to exciting new things.

rofl “sentient dolls”

I actually want female model armor on female Asura so I can make them look MORE like little dollies! They need adorable lolita clothes for them… that would be so cute!

Long live the dolls! =p

I should be surprised by this thread but sadly Im not…

Story taking place in Norn and Charr lands. “had nothing to do with the Norn or Charr” Even though the main attacking force was predominantly charr.

But the most influential leader in the area, having a jubilee from one of the races of humans that includes representatives from every race is all about humans…

OP sounds like he wants to complain about something, and if the event took place in any place but the Black Citadel would be complaining. They have overhauled a section of the city that the players have been talking about for awhile and intergrated a story with it. For all you know they have a similar plan for the charr. Should anyone that doesn’t play a not care?

Why should you care about a human because you play a charr? In that case why should you care about, Abaddon, the asura, the dragon aspects, The mad king, the norn, the sky pirates, the centaur, Tixx, the sylvari, or anyone who lives in the sea of sorrows. They are not charr and all of them have less effect on the charr than the leader of the human’s who is sitting on a delicate treaty that may or may not send the charr back into war, and some of which are fighting the charr actively right now!

Why are you forced to care about the queen? How about, because this chapter of the story of Tyria is about her? How about because this story is about more than one person, or race. The main story revolves around sylvari, the other events have revolved around the Charr and Norn and the new fractal will be Asuran based. How about because it’s about the lore of the whole world that includes humans?

well its not like all of the LS has been focused on humans , infact flame and frost wasnt focused on them at all , its unfair to not include humans in the story , they do exist as well. if im not mistaken F&F involved norn and charr. after this one we should see something with Asura perhaps? might be a link with the tech the aetherblades have?
