Obviously such a game doesn’t exist but hypothetically speaking. Do you think that the stories in the living story are interesting or significant enough that it would be discussed in a new hypothetical iteration of guild wars? T

The living story is what is going to be used to add new zones, introduce new characters, and create more personal stories for the other dragons. Right now Anet is familiarizing their-selves with the living story and getting used to it. After a while, they’ll start adding bigger, more permanent things.

At this moment, no, nothing significant has happened. Though, I suspect we’ll see something quite noteworthy within the coming year.

Not like I remember making it to Yak’s Bend the first time, fighting the doppleganger in the desert, beating glint the first time…….and many other landmarks.

It’s a kitten conspiracy. Kittens gonna be kittens. All is vain!

Unfortunately they’ll be remembered, yes.

There will be no GW3 from what I hear. At least… there are no plans for it.

Not at all. There are so many fantastic memories from GW1 spanning all three campaigns. Story elements were dark, mysterious, and epic. Living world content is juvenile at best, obviously engineered for a younger audience or those who unconcerned about a deep fantasy narrative. Scarlet as a villain is one dimensional, like a character from Saturday morning cartoons. This is more about new areas to farm because item/material accumulation seems to be the only form of progression now.

It is almost like they have forgotten just how cool the original game lore was.

I suspect it depends on what changes they make to the lore between the two and how they tie it together.

A lot of things which in GW1 were fairly minor events or characters became a big deal in GW2. The most extreme example off the top of my head is probably Keiran Thackery who started off as a random Wintersday quest NPC and became the ancestor of one of the main GW2 characters. At the other extreme things which were a big deal to us barely get mentioned, like defeating the Lich.

I think it probably comes down to what works well for the story – what’s a big deal at the time isn’t always what you can tie into later events and bring up regularly. And also how the other characters saw it. The Lich for example was a big deal for us because it was the culmination of the whole storyline but relatively few characters outside our party even knew he existed and they definitely didn’t know the full extent of his involvement – to them the White Mantle brought the Mursaat and then the Titans appeared, the two fought and humans were left to mop up the survivors.

There will be no GW3 from what I hear. At least… there are no plans for it.

There were no plans for GW2 when GW1 was a year old either. Give it a few years and Anet might find themselves in the same position, where they want to add mechanics that are impossible with the current engine or game design and they might decide to make a sequel.

Thank you for everyone’s reply, except Volkon. Perhaps I need to elaborate because some people do not know what the word hypothetical means, or the point of this thread has escaped them or they want to troll a topic that some believe is important.

Do you think the living stories in gw2 are interesting or significant enough to one day be lore worthy?

One day?
I would say they are already quite lore-worthy, and they add more to the world of Tyria than most updates in GW1 ever did.

I never played gw1. I think you are right in some respects. Taking the pavilion and starting zone wide mayhem is no small feat on paper. But as it is right now it just seems so small. I don’t know if its because its so large it’s not personable, or because we still have no ideas what Scarlett’s end game is or, if its just me being jaded.

Hypothetically yes, in fact they might have people in that world put Rox and Braham alongside the ancient heroes of GW1.
We’ll see someone who tries to claim heritage from the ancient Jenna/Rytlock family line while an ancient and immortal Anise starts to cultivate the new batch of heroes.

It is almost like they have forgotten just how cool the original game lore was.

GW1 had their stinkers too: Prince “Leeroy Jenkins” Rurik, Shiro’s idiotic plan to be human only to die AGAIN, and “Best dance party ever” Kormir.

Back then when you finished the stories it became more of a game to speed clear and farm, so I guess not much has changed after all.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

They will be remembered however you will have to make up your own story because they didn’t provide a decent one for us. I hate being negative on the living story i just wish it actually had a story. The way it has been presented makes you feel like your going crazy because while you sit there and try to figure out how it all ties together you realize they don’kittens

nice having 4 teams and constant content updates. I just they were all working on a story line that went along with each other and made sense.
