All the NPC’s seem to know scarlet and know a lot more about her then I do.

What is her plan?
How does she fit into the Aetherblade and Molten Alliances?
How does she fit into the steam creatures?
Why does she hate the queen?
What drove her insane?
Who is she working for or is she the boss?

There is a lot of loot, lots of portals, and not a whole lot of substance to this patch… Is there more story coming? Next month appears to be SAB… but this story is not wrapped up at all…

Living “Story” needs more depth, for sure. I’m not expecting Game of Thrones, but come on….

• Scarlet is a bad villian. She came out of nowhere for someone so apparently gifted (multiple colleges, studied under multiple races? come on). She has no build up. A line about her in 1 or 2 updates is not buildup. I could easily rant more about her. Feel free to read the villian sue thread for that.
• There is no motivation or explanation for WHY the attacks happen. Bad guys doing bad things because that’s what bad guys do.
• There are no surprises or twists. Think what the most straight forward thing to do could be, and that’s what happens. The community that follows lore had these great theories about how things tie together and who Scarlet could be, all of which would have been more stirring than what we actually got.

Anet states they want to keep things simple so people can have fun with it, but let’s be serious. The type of player who actually follows lore is intelligent and involved enough to want a story with depth. The people they are trying to keep things simple for probably don’t even care about what’s going on, so why try to cater story to a facet that doesn’t even really follow it?

I’m hoping that future releases give us more story, which will build.
I also hope that since they have their rotatable activities finally established, the next series of releases will be more story driven and world driven than before.

Unfortunately that seems to be what we are getting. The story is minimal at best.

They said this event would tie together all the other parts of the story… making every enemy we’ve seen so far come out of giant portals together doesn’t tie anything together though…

All they pointed out so far is scarlet seems to be behind the molten alliance, sky pirates, steam creatures and now the clockwork T1000’s. that in a way ties things together, her motivations and reasoning will surely be fed to use slowly as more living story is showcased. remember this is not the end, we just met our villain.

People will learn more about Scarlet’s motives in time.

I would feel much better about the game had the entire first year been presented as nothing more than a dream sequence.

We wake up:
Asura, Skritt, Dredge….all extinct.
Sylvari never existed.
Charr use magic rather than steampunk siege weapons.
