Breaking the Blade : Doc Howler
OK let me give you a little bit more info. Im using a one handed mace and shield. I pop whatever shield protection skills I have, try to dodge as much as possible and still cant seem to get her down.
Perhaps trying a 2-handed weapon could help ?
Any specific talents to use for this fight ?
Another was is to do the story quest when you are lv80 decked out in exotic, as I have done with my ele.
And quitting because of one small thing….. I remember how many times my ele died horribly doing the story quest that I gave up and go do something else and came back heavily armed to redo the quest that I can’t get through.
yea.. i ended up only making it thru Doc cos a lv80 character helped out my poor low leveled toon.
I did this with my mesmer and didn’t really had any problems with it (it was hard, but I zoned (bug?)to the top floor when downed, leaving the doc behind with my clones, giving me time to heal myself back up, continuing where I left off and after 3-4 times he was gone). What I’ve seen is that some personal story’s are really annoying on certain professions while I didn’t have trouble with it with other professions.
Most of the times it helps to change tactics if you can’t make it. If I remember correctly the doc is using pistols as the main weapon. So I would advise to go ranged on your guardian to make dodging easier. also concentrate on skills that keep you alive, the adds are going down relativly easy, so as long as you can dodge and keep yourself alive you should be able to make it. Last off all sometimes you just need some help. If you are by any change on the Gandarra server just give me a pm and I gladly help you out.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
As a thief I had to checkpoint rush this quest and kill a few adds every time.
Once I had all the adds down and all the NPCs up I managed.
Ok. I finally did this last night. I basically went back and forth swapping from one handed sword for DPS and mace for DEFENSE. There was one utility ability for guardian that reflects projectiles. Not sure if that was the difference maker but I did barely survive the encounter.
I want to apologize for my initial outburst. It eas indeed out of frustration due to multiple deaths.
Thank you all.
This is not unexpected, some bosses in personal story quests can be horrible for some professions or builds. Like Trybulus Griefblade’s second-in-command in the second-to-last Ash Legion quest has a buff on him that only allows one condition to be present on him at once and won’t even allow stacks.
Doc Howler sounds like either a P/P Thief or Engineer, and both of those can lay down some mean conditions, so having higher hp and a way to cleanse should help against that kind of enemy.
Her ability that gives people so much trouble is poison-darts (just like poison-volley from the engineer pistol skillbar). If you dodge her poison volley do you dodge the whole volley or just part of it? Because if you dodge the whole volley you shouldn’t have that much trouble as long as you save up your stamina to dodge the poison-volley.
Am elementalist LVL 11 and i cant kill doc
Any ideas?

When I did this with my Elementalist, I pulled Doc Howler to the door with me standing slightly outside the building; I stayed close enough to her that I didn’t draw her out but kept the doorway in between us, and dodged her attacks side to side so the edges of the doorway would block them.
I used fire attunement primarily and mainly threw AoE at her approximate area so I didn’t have to break cover enough to get a direct hit.
If you have a summon like an elemental, that can be a good distraction for her in a pinch, although she’ll take it down fast so don’t expect it to do much of your fighting for you.
If you’re playing a squishy class, I suggest using your heal as soon as you take any significant damage rather than saving it for when you get really low, because if you fail to dodge one of her volleys when your health is already down you probably won’t survive.
That worked for me, anyway. Your mileage may vary, but it may be worth a try.
She was easy with thief. But thats probably cuz it wasn’t just me and Logan. I had Quin there aswell
Doc Howler is the hardest storyline boss in the game. Unless they changed encounter since I last did it which is quite possible as it was a while ago.
