Q:

Do personal story effects have ANY effect whatsoever? Or are they just to make the game seem unique?

Asking this because I finally decided to continue on with my story yesterday. I play a Sylvari, so early on in Mirror, Mirror, I had the choice to either go to an Asura or Trahearne to save Tegwen. I went with the Asura path.

During Through the Looking Glass, Tegwen and her friend Carys showed up again. They acted as if they had just met me. And above all, they said that Trahearne had saved Tegwen. However, the quaggan that I decided to investigate after joining an order did remember me.

Was my choice just tossed aside? I understand that all the stories converge, but talk about Trahearne stealing all the glory.

Same thing happened to me, and I even did go with Trehearne in the personal story choice, not the Asura. It felt really lame to do all that for them and not be recognized. I know its only one story path that actually leads to them knowing you, but some sort of recognition should still be added in if you chose it.

Reading through the forum, Trahernia seems to have that effect on people. Most hated npc in GW2.
In general your choices only effect what missions you will play (or how you play them) but not the actual outcome.
The only tangible effect is a choice a bit later where your choice means what faction armour you will have access to.

And old post, but figured I’d resurrect it instead of making a brand new one.

Just did Through the Looking Glass tonight, and this seriously bugged me, and it’s very immersion-breaking. Considering your character already has to have some sort of flag denoting that the previous Carys/Tegwen story missions were completed, it would be very, very simple check for that flag and play a slightly-altered cutscene where the two actually seem to recognize you.

I’ve noticed things like this on a couple of missions now, and it’s definitely something that could be fixed as above. I know it’s not a high priority, and people will most likely only play through the same choices once, but it’s a glaring problem when it does happen and should be fixed.
