I know it determines which armor you can get and who your mentor is but I’m not sure how much impact it has on the personal story in general. If anyone could give me a summary that would be really helpful.

If anyone cares it’s because I’ve finally gotten to picking an Order on my main character (taking my time is an understatement) and I’m finding myself with a bit of a dilema. Until I got to the quests where you have to choose whos plan to go with I was sure I was going to join the Vigil, but every time I find myself thinking the other Order has a better plan, and I can’t help thinking if I don’t like any of their ideas it might be a bad choice, but I still like their overall approach of getting on and attacking the dragons.

It’s more of a flavor thing, but you do get totally separate missions. I’d say it’s worth careful consideration.

I chose the Vigil and don’t regret it. I wish I could do Whisper spy missions too, but you do get several more opportunities to assist/lead other Orders in their missions later on.

For now it only affects a certain part of your personal story but I’m guessing Anet will have future Personal Story parts affected by what your order is in the future.

It matters for about 20 levels. After that everyone gets back into the same track. Oh, and you often get re-introduced to a good buddy as if you’d never met.
