Guild Wars 2

So, I’ve only been playing the game for a couple of days, but I already adore it. My favorite is definitely the implementation of an actually coherent story for your character, the basis of which was more than likely ripped right out of single-player RPG’s. My question, though, is this- Is this the first time an MMO game has tried to implement a coherent, personal story for an individual character? Something more than “You are Alliance/Horde, kill the Horde/Alliance and whoever happens to be trying to take over the world at the present time!”

I know that sounds like an odd question, but I’m just curious if GW2 built off of earlier games, or was the first to try to marry off coherent, RPG storytelling with an MMO game.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has this. It’s also done better.

Though admittedly, that’s pretty much the only thing they did right.

After you join an order it becomes generic “you there, commander/magister/title, help me, the leader defeat this boss”

Its very obvious. Trahearne is your generic Thrall/Varian Wrynn and you are the generic mary sue who does no wrong and helps everyone.

It… it gets pretty painful.

You are not allowed to criticize a game, or it is hate?

No offense, but that is a pretty warped perspective. You are allowed to both criticize and like something, the two are not incompatible.

The story is sadly, pretty generic and bad as it moves along. Doesn’t mean its a bad game, just a bad story.

I’m just saying there is a lot more “You screwed up” than “I really like this game” on the surface of these posts. If you take the time to read, then yes, you can see it’s just criticism, but if your just glancing through, not paying attention to all the details, it comes off as no one likes it.

It was just an observation, is all.
