Home Instance...is it? Is it really?
I believe they’ve mentioned that when they implement Guild Halls, they’ll also implement a proper home instance that can be customised, but for the life of me, I cannot find a dev quote that states this.
It needs it when guildwars was being marketed the home was touted as something special, at this time it isn’t, and really needs some sort of revamp.
Mehid and Salia are the ones who help with the dead parents quest line right? I found the in my home instance actually. They weren’t named, but they looked exactly the same and were just hanging out in the town square. I also had a bunch of quaggans playing in the fountain since I picked them.
Agreed though, I would have liked the home instance to be even more personalized. I loved hearing people’s reactions when I let a certain character die in the human street rat quest line. It was painful and made me actually feel something.
My hope is in the months to come they make the personal area much more…. personal. I remember them discussing that you would come here and get new quests and that that in turn would make changes to your personal area.
The human one and charr one seems to be the most thought out. The asuran… it was like they just gave up on it. I was hoping to see some of my inventions and such but it’s just empty and bland.
I realize they bit off more than they could chew for launch but my hope is that they have a group working diligently on this content as it is definitely not delivered as described.
I think I went to the Sylvari home instance once around level 4 and I never went back. There is absolutely nothing in there. The human home instance is several city blocks. The Sylvari home instance is basically an apartment.
I figured they just gave up on them entirely since its been months since release and we have heard nothing about them. I guess this is what you can expect from a Free To Play game. The monthly world events are still fun and WvW is pretty good so I believe I got my $60 worth out of the game either way.
The official responses on this have basically been along the lines of, “this is something we’d love to get to one day but we have bigger fish to fry in the meantime.”
I completely agree with the sentiment that there should have been more done, but I also understand that for many people, they’d rather have more playable content. It’s a constant choice.
Yes, i came here looking for a thread like this. I finished the whole story on my Sylvari thief and the home instance has been really bugging me.
All that i see added is a few npc’s, a white stag that i saved and 1 hylek frog(ikniu) that i helped during my lesser race quest. That’s all… nothing else.
One of the things that drew me in promotion video’s actually was the home instance, that changed during your personal storyline. Well, i can’t call this change… It’s actually a huge disappointment since i expected so much from this. And to me this really looks like an unfinished product, which i find sad and didn’t expect from a-net developers that i regard so highly. When you say you don’t ship until you’re done, actually do that. Home instances definitely aren’t done.
1. Make an overhaul to the small home instances like sylvari.
2. Make changes really visable! (like when you save the white stag, make him run around your building!) and when you help a lesser race like the hylek, add not 1 but at least 10 of them that walk around!
3. Make more adds to the home instance after finishing quests… i see like 3 changes in my COMPLETE personal storyline.. that’s it. Just a few people added…
4. Add room for achievements/trophies that you can put there.
5. Add player housing(we all want it! trust me!, i want to buy a house, decorate it by crafting furniture etc and upgrade it to a mansion or whatever!)
6. Make it into a place people want to go back to(add a special merchant or whatever). I didn’t look at my home instance anymore after i noticed nothing changed.
In addition to the stuff above, I think one good way of ensuring the players visit their home instance more frequently is to have NPCs you saved or helped send you messages saying something along the lines of, “Hey, thanks for helping! Come by your house sometime. I’ve got a present for you.”
When you visit your home instance after the NPC sends you that message, they give you a one-time gift, which could be money, a stash of materials or equipment (a bag, for instance). Obviously, the higher level the NPC is from your personal story, the better the item they give you.
Afterwards, you can periodically return to your home instance and these NPCs will have additional rewards for you. Subsequent gifts will be random and usually won’t be anywhere near as pricey as their initial gift, but it can be a little extra to help you out along the way. Think of it like the keyless chests in Nightfall; they’re a little bonus you can swing by and pick up from time to time, and you never know, you might get something good out of them, like a Charged Lodestone!
One word.
Customization.
That’s all.
I agree the Home instance is very underwhelming at the moment. I thought all the choices I made would have a larger impact on it. All the things I did through out the story didn’t effect the home instance in any significant way other then adding a few npc’s which some I wondered why were they there.
There needs to be actual changes to the home instance that mean something to the personal storyline. Would be nice to see some sort of monument like the one at the pact and I would very much want a Holo Tybalt! have the npc’s talk about your adventures or other things happening in the world. Have vendors in the home instance. Display those “items” from the personal story in a meaningful way. Possibly adding an actual home to the home instances would be nice, ones we can decorate and make our own put trophy’s in it from achievements.
it would be cool if we could spent the points we earn, the ones that show on the character selection screen,if we go to spend those to personalize the home instance would be cool, trophies from certains events and quests, choosing npcs to be there and some may even grant certain boons for 30 minutes or so ^^
I have slight feeling that the choice that doesn’t really affect your Personal Story Line as of now, like Which god (Human), Which Spirit of Wild (Norn), Which Teacher (Asuran), Which cycle (Sylvari), Which partner (Charr, but they do help in some storyline missions I think), will make a difference in home Instances some time later
I’m usually typing on my phone
I want back a couple of times to see if had actually changed and I couldn’t find enough. After Arenanet hyping the home instance I expected to actually change but no it stays the same the whole way through.
I’ve checked back on my home instance a few times but haven’t seen much. I checked all the nooks I could find. The race I helped was there in Salma district…about 6-8 of them by the market. One person from my Order was there that I never met before, but a bunch of Priory NPCs were there. I found two Josirs standing in that abandoned house at Cottage Bend, but that was it. The thing that has bothered me the most is Deborah. She’s nowhere to be found. She’s not walking the streets and she’s not couped up in a bed at the hospital. Yet, Mira was standing on a bed in Andrew’s Tavern. Where is Debs?!
My sylvari has the white stag and a quaggan in his home since doing story lines involving them. I can’t find a vigil member in my sylvari’s home though. My norn has Minotaur and a kodan since doing those story lines. He also has a charr which I can’t understand. However, I was very disappointed that after all Arenanet’s talk about human choosing to save orphanage or hospital having a lasting effect that it had none at all. Both buildings still stand after I opted to save the hospital. They said the orphans would be homeless, but they’re not. Also I can’t see how asura personal story affected asura home instance at all. Haven’t found charr’s sire in home, but the charr home instance is bigger and more crowded than the others.
I haven’t checked the home instance in a very long time, but I do know that the Asura mentor you choose in the beginning is in your home instance. They don’t say anything mind you… I believe Norn have a shaman that matches their spirit, and humans have a priest that matches their god, as well.
I didn’t see asura mentor, norn shaman or human priest. Have to look again sometime when my characters are in town.
Back during BWE1 they also had a bunch more vendors in the instances (I believe, I was mostly hanging out in the Norn zones). So yeah, would love for them to do something with it eventually but I’m content to ignore it post-30 until they get the rest of the game figured out. (The Sylvari one really is pathetic.)
Yeah, the home instance looks a bit like one of the things that was rushed to get GW2 out the door on time. Understandable, but I wish it was a bit more lively.
There’s a thread in the Suggestions forums where people are putting housing suggestions / wishlists:

I find my home instances to be, shall we say, lacking. My BF’s level 80 human guardian has a home instance filled with a bunch of hylek, various groups that he’s helped, npcs he’s worked with, and even has recently added a charr scholar. My level 80 sylvari necro’s instance has one sylvari she helped early on, and nothing else, same thing with my level 45 norn mesmer.
The home instance concept sounded great to me as I was waiting for GW2 to come out. Now, I find I’m quite disappointed to see that the representation is so uneven. I hope this can get addressed somehow.
