How can I buy the Priory gears if I joined Vigil?
You can’t. You can only get the uniform of the faction you are a member of.
1) Have another one of your characters join the Priory.
2) Buy that item via that character. It will be bound to them.
3) Use a transmutation stone to transfer the skin to a neutral item. That item won’t be bound.
4) Put that item in the bank, withdraw on the first character, wear item.
5) Impress everyone with your suave apparel.

I will have to try that.
Do you know if the transmuted item will be account bound or not bound at all?

Thank you for the method!
And do you mean I should transmutation on a blue item?
In past, I have try on green item that unbounded to my character, after transmutation, it bounded……
Last time I checked using a transmutation stone on anything will bind it to the character…i have yet to try this method, merely because the items are too expensive to simply test on.
I disagree with Anet’s choice on the armor and weapons being restricted to that decision, the storyline is set in stone, that makes sense….but the armor and weapons…cmon now -.-
Considering your choices in the game don’t actually matter (thanks trahearne) it seems a bit odd that you can’t buy them anyway. I mean sure, it makes sense that you can only buy the armor of your order but as everything else you do is irrelevant I think they should cut some slack perhaps?
Bump… I think it’s a bit unfair to restrict players who blindly joined orders without knowing their associated weapons/armor families because the wiki is still in its infancy
I think it’s even more weird to HAVE to buy them. I mean, when you join the Army, do you buy your uniform? Hell no, they give it to you. Same should be for the Orders’ uniforms.
Well, special equipment (armor/weapons) I can understand having to buy, it’s an mmo. I think they could be sold to anyone and have a reduced cost to order members though.
We should also have free order specific town clothes to function as an order uniform, gifted to us on finishing initiation. Perhaps with upgraded visuals as we hit a new rank. Nothing really extravagant, but something to show rank.
When you join the USN at least, they take the cost of your uniform from your first paycheck. They do give you a uniform allowance once a year in your pay, good luck if it covers what you need though.
I’m sorry for bumping this old thread, but can I get a confirmation on the transmute method? I’m in the same predicament as OP, but since I don’t play much and don’t have too much gold, I don’t want to waste it for nothing…
It still works — I used it just yesterday to get my mesmer the necromancer mask. Once you transmute the skin of the order piece to a white/blue item, it will say “account bound” and can then be withdrawn and transmuted/used on another toon. The transmutation stone will still warn you that the item will be soulbound to a character, but it will say “account bound” after transmuting the first time.
^ Thank you very much! I’m now enjoying Priory’s GS on my asura who joined Whispers long ago. Yeah, asura. I know. ^^;
I mean, when you join the Army, do you buy your uniform?
Yes. Yes, you do.
And a man who trusts no one is a fool.
We are all fools, if we live long enough.”
This does work, however you must use a ‘white’ item to make it work correctly. This can also work with karma armor you want to buy with one characater for another. What happens is white items are ‘account bound’ instead of ‘soulbound’.
