I hate this community when it comes to Personal Stories.
Another thing, before you complain about how hard a Personal Story is, try actually gearing up to your level or actually getting up to the level of the Personal Story for that matter, maybe even a bit higher and I guarantee you shouldn’t have a single difficulty issue with these stupidly easy Personal Stories. -.-
Getting to choose between different levels of difficulty would indeed be welcomed especially if personnal story becomes replayable some day, which I hope it will, because some missions are really nicely done

This is the only productive comment I’ve read. I think difficulty choices for personal stories would be a great idea. Those who want really difficult challenges would get their wish while those who want the storyline to be about …the story…more than the combat could choose a moderate or mild difficulty. Then no one needs to snark at each other over it.
To the OP:
First off, you do realize that using words like “hate” and “stupid” to describe people who complain about difficulty really undermines any point you want to make? Maybe you should try using the word please, or better yet prove your point with facts and logic if you think those who complain are wrong. I might reconsider your choice of user name as well.
Second, what class are you playing that makes the story instances “disgustingly simple”? I’ve already completed the story on my main guardian and am about halfway to a third through on 3 alts trying different paths and orders (Warrior, Necro and Mesmer), and I can say with certainty there are definitely balance issues in regards to class. On my guardian it was a challenge on some missions but mostly fine and in rare cases extremely easy – same with my warrior. But caster classes have a much more difficult time. Guardian and Warrior appear have less problems since they have strong burst aoe and good survivability, while caster classes (particularly Ele) have trouble handling the rush of mobs.
Lastly, the idea of having an optional difficulty setting for the personal story would be great except for one thing: the last mission. Not sure if you’ve actually completed the story yet (hard to tell from your post), but the last mission is in fact a group dungeon – the Arah Story Mode in fact. You can’t “adjust” a dungeon. Maybe if they allowed a setting for all the solo-able missions prior to that point. But you see the problem.

Yes, the very last group mission would simply have to be what it is…a dungeon styled run for a group. There’s no getting around that. Up until that point however, something certainly needs to be done so that those individuals who enjoy very difficult challenges don’t lose their ability to do so while others who would rather not sweat bullets in their personal stories or be held up on account of not being able to find a partner to help them, have the option to do a more moderate difficulty version. Neither type of player should “suffer” due to the other, imo.

You don’t know much do you? My Ranger is lvl 80 and she was behind on her story line.. She was on her lvl 30 story step… I played through it all the way to 80. There were several steps in her story that were overly difficult even with her being 80, but that doesn’t matter since the game dumbs you down to that lvl. And FYI she was geared. You might want to pull head from kitten and think about it a sec… That maybe some parts of the story might be somewhat overpowered for a solo storyline.. Some parts of my storyline was anything but easy. So take your QQ and your guarantee somewhere else. I don’t blame Arenanet either, I just blame whinners like you. Go kill and army of 50+ risen and an army of unlimited giants with a army of 10 and see how you fair..

Most mission with an “unlimited” supply of risen giants usually has a different way of being beaten than straight combat, and 50 risen is hardly a challenge if you utilize aoes and skill properly >_> took a mediocre geared glass cannon thief through story mode, under-leveled at some points, and its all very easy if you dont just charge in without thinking about the situation a bit…
…..and by lvl 80 geared, do you mean blues? no lvl 80 should have difficulty in quests before lvl 80 lol even without rares/exotics, its a bit sad that you have played a character to that extent without learning how to handle difficult situations

i dont agree with the comunity as well as far as difficulty goes.. true there could be a difficulty setting (some games even have it i think, i know aion does) but there is still no need for constant whining about it. i played a thief sylvari, died several times over the course of the story mode but it only made me change my approach, try harder, and enjoy the sweet victory. Sure some classes have more issues than others and some classes dont exactly work as intended (necro comes to mind (my main)) but all in all i think it can all be fixed and tactics changed, its not impossible. I can as well think of a few other games i played that were harder and yet we all still enjoyed them.

I think some of them have the potential to be nice. Personally I’ve had almost none of the personal story missions work out as intended. Most have bugged out or just simply decided to not reward my characters with either the item or the xp. If they actually fix the bugs, I’ll think about replaying some of them. But if they’ve worked out for you, good deal.
MMO rule #3:
Any time there is an instance. There needs to be difficulty choices and adjusted XP/Loot for choosing an higher difficulty.
There is no possible way to please everyone with one difficulty setting for instances. Not possible.
