Insane enemy AI / Friendly stupid AI?
If anything Drannon understated the problem. I have found that when there are two paths in the Orr zone one is significantly more difficult then the other. No warning to the player which is which until your toon is committed. I play games for story not to grind for gear. Once the story is frozen by poor design that toon is not fun to play anymore. SPOILER Ossuary of unquiet undead is flatly unplayable. The wandering pair that comes up on you at the third platform is so overpowered that my story and my favorite toon are done. The friendly npc’s might as well be a pack of kittens. They have no armor, no hit points, and do no damage for the ten to fifteen seconds that any of them are alive. So congrats to the design teem on this one they have defeated another customer. You might want to let them know that is not a good thing.
I have to agree with this ^ :::::SPOILER:::: I forgot to mention the personal story where you have to follow the ancient priestess around. There is one champion abomination that pats around, he literally one shots your friends and then you. I managed to kite him on my warrior for about 5 minutes before taking him to 5% when I made a mistake and got one shotted as well. I think something should be done about this, because up to the Orr point, the personal stories are pretty enjoyable – nothing too out of the ordinary, but still more than I expected from any MMO.
Also I’d like to add – Hero characters, like our Tree friend, should not be extremely week. He literally can’t handle a normal mob by himself. God, if he really led the pact and the player didn’t exist..

I find it funny that he is a Legendary character that dies in less then a minute to a normal mob.
gw2 is so fun.!
water plants, feed cows, be a cow.! eat a cow.!

yeah right thought wow was childish this just utter kittenzle.
glad im done with gw2 wel was done anyone in a week (1/80)
GG
6 more months and they wil go from 1mil subs to swotr style 100/200k
Gl with this crappy unballanced laggy game they wil never fix!
Sorry if i go a bit off topic here but kitten I know what you mean, its like I keep trying to like this game – it’s got awesome graphics, the combat system is good most of the time, theres no subscription, etc.. but then when i do play im left with a bitter-sweet taste in my mouth, something is missing – and a big part of it is the personal story, i’m not going to go into my views with whats wrong with it, as from reading the posts here i’m probably of a minority view, that said its a pity because a company that ive been supporting and respecting since prophecies i now begin finding myself feeling indifferent towards, I still think they can pull it back with an expansion but I’ve already got my eye on another upcoming MMO, if you had asked me in beta testing if i would be looking for another MMO 8 month after launch i would’ve said: “hell no! are you mad?” but here i am doing just that. i will say though subscription-free access is a powerful tool to have on your side so only time can tell how/where this game will end up.
Regarding the NPC AI issue: I totally agree with the majority of folks who have been complaining about how bad the AI is in this game for NPCs, pets, and your personal story Heros vs your enemy’s AI action.
I really would like to be able to solo my personal story more but in some cases after dying several times, I end up asking for help. I really hate to ask other folks help me do a small instance for my story.
Currently I have the last personal story “Romke’s Final Voyage” ::SPOILER:: where I have to find a map to locate the source of Orr.
I can’t solo this one. No one wants to help either. I have asked a few folks and no one wants to do this. Most of them have done it before and refuse to repeat it for any reason.
Why is this thing so hard?
Tips:
- abuse out of combat: if about to lose run back lose aggro and regen then try to pull and burst down smaller numbers
- abuse terrain and AI. high ground reachable by both jumping and normal pathing? Jump on it. Watch the zombies take the long walk around while you splat them from range. that long walk is actually more like f1 acceleration though since anet somehow thought f1 zombies are cool. but you can jump back down and repeat.
- abuse trees, AI and melee weapons
. run around tree or other object and spam your melee skill. you will do dmg but the poor AI will try running around but because they f1 zombies its not easy
- condition removal since poison is common vs risen
- ossuary: skip the champion it wanders around very slowly so easy to avoid and let it pass. very possible to kill but champion mob rewards in this game compared to time spent killing them is kitten
- buy potions defense and dmg vs undead
- ask anet to nerf some risen movement speed they’re the fastest kittening zombies I’ve seen in any game
qewqew you have just provided a great “light in the tunnel” moment for me. How entertaining to realize that I can easily defeat the silly npc enemies…had not thought about using my surroundings for blocks and evasions.
TYVM for this wonderful idea. :=)
you know, a lot of the complaint about the salad dude would be less vocal if he is more competent in combat. I mean if instead we have one of those hammer warriors in TA, I would like him a lot more. Just my opinion…
Yesh the Salad Shooter in the story is basically a series of this:
Cutscene: Look how powerful and awesome I am.
Playing through instance: Oh I broke a nail… downed… save me.
Infuriating.
Wait you guys let Trahearne die? I don’t like him, but I don’t go out of my way to kill him, either. He doesn’t die on me when in personal story missions, regardless of whether or not he adds anything to fights.
edit: Then again I haven’t found the personal story missions difficult, so I guess I am not losing to the NPCs and relying on allied NPCs either.
I’ll just add to qewqew’s post and state that if you are having difficulty look at ways that will let you fight enemies in smaller groups or individually. Crowd control skills and condition removal can be a big help, and if you are accompanied by NPCs they can at least take some of the hits for you (e.g. let them hold aggro instead of trying to kill everything at the same time).

ever since the orr mobs have been changed (nobles and pirates etc) I’ve had all my allies die literally within a couple of seconds into combat. It doesn’t always happen but throughout my 70’s stories it happened at least in 3 of them at every encounter. Although in some other stories they can really take a beating. Not sure how it can ne so inconsistent.
bye gw2 has been fun for some time, now welcome to neverwinter, the killer of gw2 maybe if they keep up the good work
