Magister Sieran...why?

I also found her death too soon, and too contrived. Really, did she really slow down the horde of bad guys long enough for us???
I didn’t even get to use signet of capture on her corpse to get her fire portal or flight skills :<

I definitely felt the same way.
In the time I quested with her, I don’t remember seeing anything to indicate she had any fighting skills greater than my own.
Now, I’m supposed to believe she can single handedly slow down a full blown Risen invasion?
I had a real hard time believing that. There were more skilled/powerful people there, and they couldn’t stop the army, so how could a scholar?
As a result, the story fell flat for me, and soon went downhill from there.
The plot device of having her sacrifice herself did feel contrived, but it was also hamfisted in it’s execution.
I also didn’t like how quickly they brushed over her death. I spent more time mourning and honoring Apatia, someone I can’t say I remember from my personal story.
I travelled to her land and gave a speech to her people for crying out loud! I didn’t really even know her.
It would have made much more sense to do all those things for Magister Sieran.
I mean, I was with Magister Sieran for a good portion of my story, and she got so much less attention when she was gone (compared to that stranger Apatia). It made no sense at all.
It made as little sense as Magister Sieran fending off an army.
Really liked Sieran. Story missions with her in them were considerable bolstered by her presence, and they completely lost their charm when she was replaced with “clawrr” guy.
c’est la vie.
“In Guild Wars 2, your actions really matter and your choices have an impact on the world around you.”
BUT you still have NO options to save one of the best characters of the game from a “forced” death
This is why I stopped personal story BEFORE she could even run into danger
So in my point of view she never died, and she NEVER will.
Enjoy my happy Sieran:

She’s an elementalist using dual dagger, so I’m guessing Frozen Burst and Frost Aura

Seiran’s personality really grated on me when I first met her, but then she grew on me. I was about ready to put a fist through my computer screen when I saw her die… why did they have to kill off the mentors??? they were well written, unlike that wilted stick Trahwho? .

I liked Sieran, she was annoying at first but grew on you and kind of funny in a way. I hate how she got killed off too fast, you never got a ton of time to really get to like her. Then replacing her with Traherne made the story feel so much more boring and worse to me.
Q: Why?
A: Because A-net spent a lot of effort making FEW characters have any real personality that comes through in the story, and then kills them off in a hope that you will feel emotions for a brief minute. Therefore we are left with the second thought characters to make up the gap… and Trahearne.
Instead, how about killing off characters we don’t care about, giving us a sense of mortality and danger in the world, but keeping the charismatic and well thought out characters alive in order to flesh out the story and surrounding universe.
ps. I am not opposed to killing lovable characters, I am opposed to killing the ONLY lovable characters.
Oh Sieran, you were the only reason I looked forward to running the personal story. And so soon after you dropped that hint about wanting to fall in love, you were taken in a stupid act of superficial self sacrifice. Why? WHY??? All I have to remember you by is this picture of us exploring the small island with the ship, just offshore of Claw Island. Look at Traehorne – he knew! He KNEW!!!
Don’t worry guys I am a necro and I am working day and night to locate Sieran’s body and revive her. ^^

From what I’ve seen both my mentors (vigil and priory) die. I’m assuming a mentor from whispers will die as well.
She was my favorite character in the game period. I was sad when it happened and kind of angry. Why take away the only awesome character?

You better move quick, it might be too late already.
I remember when I was doing my personal story, the Sovereign eye of Zhaitan taunted me and said Sieran was waiting for me under the wing of Zhaitan.
I liked Magister Sieran’s curiosity and joy of exploration, it made doing the personal story fun.
I was running around on my Sylvari ranger and one of the Risen guys on the shore actually taunted me with saying he would plant me next to Sieran. I was pretty surprised that a non-instanced mob would say that.

That’s both cool, and horrible, at the same time!
I think I would have minded her death less if it hadn’t have been so contrived.
But then rule #1 of fantasy storytelling is to make an awesome character and then kill them off. It’s largely true for all the mentors, who are all awesome.
I Guess I am in the minority here but I hated her with a passion
I could not understand why my Charr Engineer would willingly tag along with this ditzy idiot……. but I also dont like contrived deaths of characters and would trade her in a heartbeat for the “wooden” acting and demeanor of Trahearne. At least she had a personality – albeit an irritating one at times

She was over the top and had a strong personality. I also thought she was too ditzy and was quite annoying, but she grew on me. However because she had such a strong personality, there is more chance there are people that also do not like her.
But I would prefer to hate the personality of a character every now and then, than play with entirely bland and forgettable characters.
Bland side characters are difficult to hate, but also difficult to love.
I also found her death too soon, and too contrived.
I think that’s my issue with her death, not that she died or that she sacrificed herself, it’s that it happened far too quickly. I would have added another two or three missions to the story. You go from “Hey new guy!” to “Let’s go have an adventure friend!” to “I will die so you can live!” in about that many missions. It’s just too accelerated of an arc to really feel right.

I with you on this one dude
Why havent she payed 2.something silver, and teleport to the nearest portal like everyone does? :S
Tybalt>Sieran.
I know I’m one of the few people that really found her annoying, and didn’t mind her dying at all. Tybalt though…T__T
I want her back!!!

You’re not the only one, her overly cheerful, air-headed personality grated on my nerves. I much preferred Tybalt and Forgal.
Still better than Trehearne, though. Though it annoyed me, at least she had a personality. And the mentor’ s death definitely felt contrived, and could have been executed far better.
Anyone try reviving her during Claw Island mission? I swam all the way across to the west beach, followed the wall, climbed some stairs, killed a kitten tone of Risen (and died even more times doing it), FINALLY got to reviving her, and got nothing…
I liked Sieran but Tybalt was my favourite. Love them or hate them, all the mentors were more memorable than the vast majority of other characters in this game. It would have been better to see their stories unfold gradually (although it felt like both Forgal and Tybalt had a past to tell, Sieran less so as a Sylvari) rather than having them cut off so abruptly. It was a missed opportunity.

I swam all the way around to go get her and when I got there she was just standing there, smiling. I talked to her but she just said “I have much to teach!”. That made me sad…
By that point of doing that mission is was on an alt, so I knew she was going to die. I get that, anet wants to get us attached to a character and then kill them off, giving us a personal drive to fight Zhaitan. Great idea, I loved Sieran. But I would’ve liked a little something to mourn her. She was my partner after all. Thought Sieran is the only one I really got attached to.
Though when the eye of Zhaitan taunted saying Sieran was under Zhaitan’s influence. That’s a lie. Lorewise sylvari are immune to becoming risen, and I assume branded and ice brooded(?) as well.
Anet really dropped the ball on the Impersonal Story.
Because I mainly play alone ( my guild is in a different time zone than I ) I was happy to have a friend in the game for a bit, even if she was an NPC.
Very sad that she didn’t last longer

I didn’t like her at first but did like how she changed a bit at the end. I still felt her death was a little too fast to have really felt her sacrifice.
The vigil version (which is the one I did first) felt perfect (and gave me goosebumps).
I’m hoping the whispers version felt as powerful as the vigil version.

Whispers version will make you cry.

Don’t be sad. Sieran is a Sylvari. Sylvari are immune to corruption. IMO, that dialog was copy & paste.
Claw Island is the island of mentor death… my warrior lost Tybalt there (very sad).
But! Since this is where the stories converge I just roleplay that when another character of mine gets to this part, that’s the end of their story. The Order of Whispers has beaten them to Claw Island and my warrior is the one that carries on to do the rest. (RIP Tybalt! Your sacrifice will be remembered!)
Consequently my guardian, who has just been promoted to Magister, gets to live happily ever after with her friend Sieran. Yay!
Gixx will probably get mad about us failing our mission but oh well. Typical Gixx will forget about 10 seconds later.
I wonder what would happen if a player from the Priory parties up with someone from Whispers and they played the story together… surely only one mentor would die?
You know what makes me really suspicious? When the Priory base was attacked by the Risen, you asked Gixx about how the heck did the Risen know where the Priory base was.
Gixx replied that they must have resurrected a member of the Priory and found out the base’s whereabouts from that.
No Risen attacks on the Priory ever before Sieran died. Sudden massive Risen invasion shortly after. Oh dear, looks like we might see her again real soon….
Oh dear, looks like we might see her again real soon….
Fortunately, Sylvari are immune to being corrupted by Zhaitan.
Sieran would simply have died, not become a Risen – although the other two mentors might have done.
Sieran dies, BEST news ever !!!!!!!!!!!
I so hate that kitten .
From the first mission she was introduced i so wanted to kill that stupid kitten myself.
(Havent finished PS lines yet, so i didnt know yet)
I get depressed when I see the Magister’s field guide item QQ.
RIP Sieren.
i dont think that Tybalt or Sieran died on claw island at all. Forgal however yes.
