Guild Wars 2

Hello.

I bought GW2 yesterday, and as of yet I’ve only reached level 3. When I made my character, I picked Quinn as my friend, a ruffian. I recently received a quest to help him out as he had disobeyed his bandit leader, allowing their comrade to be kidnapped due to his absence. This all goes well, and we retrieve the kidnapped bandit.

Now, after this Quinn sticks around with his bandit comrades, and they head off to rob an apothecary. I receive a quest to go talk to the local guard, and he asks me about Pete (The bandit leader). Now, despite having never ever met this guard before, and despite knowing that my characters BEST FRIEND is going to join his bandit friends on the apothecary robbery, my character, without even blinking, opens up to 270%, telling the guard EVERYTHING. I am going to be stuck with this character for a good while now, yet it feels very difficult to feel and connection or even enjoyment with my characters personality when she blatantly runs off to snitch to the local guards without me having a say in it, risking her friends life and/or freedom without even blinking. Instead of wishing my character succeeds, I just want to see her miserably fail and be beaten up by some local thugs for completely throwing the very concept of loyalty out the window. You might say that it’s merely a wish from Arenanet not to promote evil or criminal activity, but as seen in many RPG titles, you can never be sure that the guards are any less evil. Sometimes, the bandits are even the lesser of two evils.

I do not at all enjoy my characters personality and her choices. Have I done something wrong in the character creation, can this be changed? I know I picked certain personality traits for my character during the creation, but does this affect the way she interacts with the world? If possible, I would very much like to change it before reaching any higher levels.

The choices you make with either player creation or the personal story don’t really have a meaningful effect. I won’t ruin anything with specifics, but you wanted to know before going further. You’ll have to use your imagination somewhat if you want to have your character feel like a unique and personal character. GW2 is an mmo first and foremost, an rpg a distant second.

You could start over, but I can’t tell you that you won’t get frustrated with it again. You’re not given much choice that veers even a little outside the main story arc, it’s a linear campaign. But I think that was intentional, it’s not a sandbox game after all.

I’ve played all three human backgrounds and the ruffian is by far the most jarring when it comes to Logan. In the nobility you’re already friends with the Seraph, and as a commoner the Seraph are respected, but you’d expect the ruffian to have a distaste for the law. Instead, the character does just as you say, practically jumping at the bit to help them. It bothered me too.

Try rerolling as nobility or commoner. I didn’t have any trouble with either of those.

Just be a female sylvari and try to catch all the missions about love stories, betrayal and good people doing bad things.

I promise you, you’ll have that “connection” what you are looking for, maybe stronger than what’s healthy. kitten I can’t reroll to any class, even if ANet keeps destroying thieves every patch. It’s still so much fun, and I belived that’s why. But nah. I couldn’t play any other thief, only my first character. Every time I spend laurels or gold on my alts I feel like it’s a waste because I could have spend it on her instead. Too bad I already have the looks I want, the full exotic berserker gear with full ascended trinkets… I don’t know where to process. I started doing fractals somedays but it’s already boring because it feels grindy. So doing random dungeons until something actually worthy update lands. Something that’s an UPGRADE to the game systems, not just a “grind the kitten out of your brain every day for a few months for this small stat bonus”. Hell no. Not even once that’s gonna happen. Not why I bought GW2 for.

and that’s why SWToR is superior in every way in terms of quests, you have allot more control about what you’re about to say and you can be as kitten or goody good as you want to be.

Isnt the reason she snitches because she 1. Left the gang so no real loyalty anyway
2. Wants to save the friend
3. Knows TwoBlade Pete is a kitten whos gonna pull something bad (he will btw)
