What exactly is the GW2 Necromancer lore? How is their power different than Zhaitan’s, other than Zhaitan’s power to raise leagues of undead.
I remember Trehearne says at one point that his minions were never actually alive, so where does he get the flesh for his flesh golems? In GW, the minions came from corpses. Are necromancers more of a cross-dimensional summoner now?

Speaking of GW, necros had one spell to take control of undead minions. How was this lost? Are the risen different than undead? Would the lore go that necros can’t break Zhaitan’s influence I wonder.

Just looking for plugs in the story holes. That’s what makes a good game great.

pretty sure zhaitan is just a really strong necromancer. necromancers can raise a dead sentient being, as seen on ghosts of ascalon, but it’s shunned upon and considered immoral, so they don’t. instead, they summon those fiendish things out of remains of long-dead creatures.

i think the difference between a necro minion and a risen creature (just speculating from this point forward) is the level of intelligence presented by the risen. the necro minion is pretty much dead for all practical effects, following orders like a flesh robot (a flesh golem if you will ), whereas the risen are somewhat intelligent, and share a hive mind. some risen can even use magic, talk, and dissuade (especially risen mesmers, the kittens).

on a side note, there’s a sub-forum just for lore, i think this thread is more suited there than on the personal story one.

I believe the necro minions are made of multiple creatures’ remains … some have multiple ribcages (bone fiend, flesh golem) or don’t look like anything in the game world (bone minion, flesh golem again). For example I doubt that windriders, devourers or wurms have actual skeletons like mammals, birds, serpents etc. Yet our necromancers created minions in their images.
