Personal Story Balancing is a joke
what are you talking about personal quests in swtor and other MMO’s are far superior and better balanced. Are you real serious about what you are saying, because i remember the number of time i have help people in swtor with their personal story because they couldn’t do it alone that can be said for other MMO’s too. their is nothing wrong with asking for help just doing one quest because of the number of mobs that spawn on you and its making it impossible to complete. not everything need to be simple. some people enjoy such challenger.
Mark8250,
I couldn’t disagree with you more. I have had a great experience with the personal story in GW2. I feel like the game is perfectly balanced. I always seem to complete the mission by the “skin of my teeth”. It feels like an epic battle each time, and I hope that was the developers intent, because it’s working perfectly.
Personal quests in Swtor were no problem as long as you used your companions correctly, I have completed personal quests in Swtor on most classes without difficulty as the devs got the balance right.
No matter which attunement I use as elementalist I just hit a wall with constant mob spawns. I note many of the more squishier classes are having problems in GW2, warriors and guardians seem to be fine.
It is pretty clear from the similar problems people are having that the devs did not properly test and balance the personal quests for the light armor classes.
I am having to deal with 5 mobs as the NPC’s are uselss then 4 more spawn on top of me.
Its just ruining the immersion of the game, by the time I have died and respawned at checkpoint the friendly NPC’s are dead as they were overwhelmed and I am stuck trying to fight 10+ mobs.
Its completely ridiculous for what is supposed to be a Personal Quest.

I dont mind it being tricky or even tough in places but not if it stops progression.
What class are you Mbridge.4069?
I’m playing a warrior. And I’m all about keeping up with the story. I’m the only one of my friends that’s actually playing the personal story as I level. Each time I hit the “recommended” level I do the mission. I have had friends come with me at times, but mostly complete them myself. I just read your above post about the medium and light armor classes. I haven’t tried these yet, but I guess I will have to before rendering a full opinion.

From what I have heard it is fine for Warriors and Guardians, but light armor classes get overwhelmed very quickly.
Hmm, up to lvl 60 or something I didn’t have any real problems on my necro, and then I simply decided it might be more fun (and, yes, slightly easier) to do it with friends.
But then, the Asuran personal story seems well balanced that way; I know there are Norn and Human instances which…don’t work so well to say the least.
You do have to put much more thought into skill use and positioning when doing the personal story on a light armoured character, as they do tend to feature large mob waves…
I just did this quest last night and had no problem on my Ranger. Letting the NPCs tank worked fine, while I burned the mobs down with AOE damage. I had to rez a couple of them, but that was about it. Then on the last fight, I popped my healing spirit elite skill to make sure that nobody died, and it was just a matter of picking the mobs down one-by-one.
I think the problem is that you don’t really have attunement-swapping down yet. Elementalists do the best burst damage in the game, and they do it by swapping between attunements, one right after the other, so they can spam their long-cooldown spells. If you manage to get that down, I’m willing to bet that you’ll tear right through the mission without any problems.

It’s a bit offensive that you assume it must be the player’s fault. Because I can assure you it isn’t. Elementalists have it a lot harder than warriors and whenever they get swarmed, it’s extra tough on them. The only way they can pull through is if they spec heavily for defense (making defensive oriented gear mandatory instead of an alternative).
Some fights are simply imbalanced. For example:
I’ve just completed a personal storyline mission that involved planting explosives on a ship. The ship was guarded by a shark. Now mind you, I’ve taken extra care to ensure that my gear was up to it, and my level was higher than required for the mission. So I got scaled down a bit.
The shark attacked with a lightnig fast attack that removed 80% of my health in 1 go.
That’s right, 80%.
So why don’t you dodge you say? Because the attack was both ranged, and impossibly fast. No telegraph warning that it would come. Not even when I expected it.
So why not use a more defensive build/gear you say? Well, I was already wearing armor that focusses on toughness. And I’m specced 30 points in Earth.
So how did I beat it? Well, eventually it got bugged and didn’t respond anymore, making it possible to take it down. But you cannot convince me that such a fight is balanced.
Fights where npcs can tank for you are great. When they don’t you die. A lot.
You’re lucky your only problem is mob difficulty, and not completely bugging out.
I had a very frustrating time with Sabotage as a warrior. I’m sure that some of it is my lack of skill, but I died sooo many times before finally completing it. I think maybe the personal story instances are a little too finely tuned.

I particularly liked the bit where my character got scaled to level 68, but the mobs got to be 70. Of course, the impossible possible shark was level 68 so I suppose numbers aren’t everything.
