Winterforge [WF]
Personal Story: It really is all about you (Spoilers)
Winterforge [WF]
The weirdest part is I met him as a sylvari before, we meet up on claw island again, have a nice little catch up, then a new segment starts and he introduces himself to me as if we’ve never met – I mean wha? =S
Have you played all of the story through to the end? Traherne was there plenty of times but I still Felt I was the one who got the most recognition at the end of my personal story quests.
At least it’s not like spoilers Kormir who steals the glory at the end. spoilersend
But yeah it was indeed weird to see traherne talking to me as a sylvari like if he never met me before.
No its not. It is your personal story in which you grow as a hero and also influence others to rise against common enemy and abandon old hatreds for the ultimate goal of saving Tyria and all of her denizens. It is a story of love, sacrifice and friendship, it is a story seen trough your hero’s eyes, witnessing and being part of heroic deeds and painful loses.
….It is your story.
If you have seen a bit less than I have just said than I am sorry for you my friend.
A story generally isn’t about just one person. Just because there’s a few other big characters in the story doesn’t change the fact a large part of the story is still about your character.
I much preferred the earlier segments of the personal story, if I’m honest. The latter portion wasn’t terrible, but it seemed to flow a little less smoothly and did indeed seem to focus a little too much on Trahearne. I suppose that’s mostly because the initial stuff is incredibly varied whilst the latter stuff seems to be heavily driven by Trahearne. There’s still differences and alternative routes, though.
Still, the entire thing is effectively a ‘what if’ scenario for me. Naturally, it’d be arrogant for anyone to claim that their character is the ultimate saviour of Tyria, especially when millions of other people will be doing the exact same feats.
One aspect of the personal story that bothered me was this: it had been mentioned before launch that the story would revolve around bringing Destiny’s Edge back together, however, after you join your order you never hear from your mentor again. The only interaction that I’ve seen (haven’t fully finished the story yet, just did the battle for fort trinity last night) is through the dungeons and even then none of the characters have a desire to reconcile. I can only imagine at this point if DE comes together it’ll be a huge “huh?” moment on my part.

Actually your story is to bring back Destiny’s Edge. However all of this takes place in the dungeons story mode ( try doing them in order of levels).

Huh what… I don’t know what game you were playing but the GW2 personal story was nowhere near as deep or as intricate as you describe it. As a whisper agent I can only recall one moment of sacrifice and it clearly lacked any effort. I didn’t feel a single thing, which I personally found quite odd because the character that is sacrificed was the only character I liked.
And the dungeons are all about destiny’s edge!
I didn’t so much want to ‘bring back’ Destiny’s Edge so much as berate them all for behaving like a bunch of spoiled children in a time of crisis.
Really need the option to do that!

Yea, I have been slowly working my way through them, but so far, no one wants to work together (done up through Sorrow’s Embrace). I still enjoy the story though, just wasn’t what I was expecting.

That kind of thing happens way too often in the story. Meeting characters “for the first time” or people talking to you as if you are a human when you’re really a charr… or telling you all about charr stuff as if you’re an outsider to the culture (I’m talking personal story, not exploring the world) when you happen to be a charr yourself.
I found the personal story to be largely not very personal at all because of these many oversights.
And the dungeons are all about destiny’s edge!
But for the personal story to make sense and be continuous they needed to be part of the personal story.
And that would have been way better filler than the whole join an order crap.
