The title might be a little vague, so I will explain.

I am wondering if the personal story choices really make a big difference. For example, I love the charr and would like to create another story.

I wonder though is it very different when I choose other options? So far it seems it are minor things that happen low level, once you join an order the story doesn’t seem to be affected anymore. I am only 50-ish so maybe I am making conclusions too early? Do the choices come back later in the game again?

Another thing: if you join the same order as a different race is the story different too?

No need to give me spoilers and exact answers, you can reply in a vague way that still answers my question without spoiling too much!

Thanks!

the personal story’s like a reverse tree. vastly different for each character at the start, but once you join an Order your race doesn’t matter, and after those quests your Order doesn’t matter much anymore, either.

I can understand why this frustrates people but…personally I can see why they did it that way. there’s one definite goal in the game (deafeat Zhaitan), so naturally the story would head toward that goal. also including dozens of different story paths and outcomes would be a nightmare to develop and program.

so yeah, I’d love to see more uniqueness, but I can see why that isn’t the case.

teachers live in schools, garbage men live in garbage, and firemen live in fire.

I have a human necro in Durmand Priory and also play an alt alongside a friend with a norn ele in Durmand Priory, so he made different choices than me with quests when he could but there was still some repetition inevitably. As far as I can see the race makes no difference to the order storylines at all.

Actually, from what I can tell, there is a lot of depth in the Character Choices, but it’s hard to see at times.

While the choices you make don’t persist in the storyline as such, the game contains 15 starting scenarios (One for each character story choice from the start of the game), 5 Racial Scenarios, then the 4 Choosing an Order Scenarios. the 1 Initiation Scenario, then the three Lesser Race Scenarios… and I’ve not finished past that point, and that doesn’t start talking about divergent branches in the scenario groups.

This means there are at least 27 paths per race to play through to the end game. The game is designed for re playability, and while the end result is always the same, the choices you make will lead to a different game than a person who made different choices.

To me, this is good design, and while it shows some strain at the seed point of the tree, it manages to do something special when it comes to these types of games. Actually have a different story through the early levels from every other character. You don’t get that in any other MMO.

Except SWTOR, which managed to do everything else wrong, but still managed a unique story for every single class.

Correction, there are at least 27 different half of your story to play through the game. The amount you get between 50-80 is about the equivalent to the rest you get from past tutorial to 50.
