Warning! Slight spoilers, some speculation, and a wall of text/pics here.

No T.l.d.r way out of this one.

This is a few cut-scene bits from the story mission “Magic Sucks” where you try to recruit Gorr to help you with taking back Claw Island.

He mentions how his new weapon works by sucking magic from the Risen themselves, poisoning it, then shooting it back at them to negate the magical essence of Zhaitan’s will inside the Risen to destroy them.

This may explain why all the Risen in Arah (explorable mode) act as though Zhaitan’s alive: from a certain point of view, he is, through his tangible will inside all the Risen still un-dead and corrupted after his defeat. What we destroyed just happened to be where most of his essence/will was at the time, and for all we know, that essence/will might be spreading to the rest of his minions, making them even more powerful. This helps tie back to how the dragons are said to be forces of nature, above just giant dragons that corrupt things. Their corruption is as much a part of them as is their own bodies. This means that the only true way to defeat them is to destroy not just the dragons themselves, but all of their minions and all their corruption, wherever it is. Otherwise, their minions will continue to consume in their place, and the dragons themselves might return.

On a side note, Gorr mentions that he got his test subjects from the Upsilon Test Facility.

Wait a minute…there’s a point of interest called the Upsilon Facility in Malchor’s Leap, that’s underwater and run by the Inquest… :o

So either that facility used to belong to another krewe and the Inquest kicked them out or…Gorr has associates in the Inquest, and might be one himself!

No feedback? I’m surprised. I would’ve thought that Gorr maybe having Inquest associates might be a little interesting at least. :/

I think it’s interesting!

One thing I think is neat about the Inquest is how they’re not strictly a criminal group in Asuran society. The Inquest appears just like a normal Asuran college in the Asura storyline (albeit one you can’t join, naturally,) and they appear to recruit new members in exactly the same way. (At least until the player gets involved.) They’re certainly better-tolerated than, say, the Sons of Svanir or the Flame Legion.

It’s hard to say whether the associates are Inquest or if their lab has been taken over. There’s plenty of academic theft going on in Asuran culture, so lab theft isn’t unlikely, either. And Gorr could very well be one himself.

i also found it interesting how the inquest & sons of svanir hold territory in rata sum & hoelbrak, respectively, but i haven’t noticed the other 3 races have this.

The Inquest are on good terms with the Arcane Council to an extent (one of the Council being a member, and the head of the council possibly being in their pocket as well).

As for the Sons of Svanir…I don’t really get why the other norn let them hang out so close, but the Sons behave themselves there at least. (Better than they normally do, anyway.)

there was a thread about the Sons of Svanir. can’t find it now but the basic idea was that while they abide by hoelbrak’s rules, it is in norn culture to tolerate them

Server: Kaineng | Guild: Blackflame Legion [BFL]
Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server
Main Character: Farathnor (sylvari ranger) 1 of 22

Ah okay. So just as long as they don’t try murdering anyone there, they’re fine.

Basically. The Norn in general don’t agree with the Sons’ Jormag worship, but they still respect them and will tolerate their presence as long as they don’t outright start a battle in the city.
