Romance is not in the game yet, but ANet has mentioned that they are considering putting it in.

It would be interesting if your possible partners were determined by your personality choices.

I just hope I can marry Gixx at some point, ahaha.

I second this proposal. I would like to see some romance options sort of like ME3. But then again this is an MMO so if you really want to romance someone you can always romance a player character.
The problem is you never know who’s male, female, young, old or FBI.

These are not the droid you are looking for, move along… → ESO, FireFall, NW :)

Not pushing this on anybody. At all. But for those of us who are interested… could we have gay marriages as well? Sylvari do it. ;O

Wasn’t there a sylvari personal quest that was a love story? My sylvari mesmer went through one where I had to “save” this woman from nightmare court because he loved her. We ended up having to kill her because once you join nightmare you can’t leave.

One thing that really pulled me into ME3 was the story brought out emotions in the player because of having relationships with NPCs in game. For example, when I played ME2 I romanced Tali and thought that was cool.
But in ME3 there is a situation where you have to choose between letting the AI achieve sentience and having the Quarian fleet destroy the Geth. In other words you had to choose between your friends Legion (a Geth) and Tali (a Quarian.) First time through (I didn’t read the forums or spoilers) I was thinking it would be ok to let the Geth have sentience, then negotiate peace between the Geth and Quarians. What happened was the Geth got their sentience and destroyed the Quarian fleet. Tali was so shattered that she committed suicide by jumping of the cliff in front of my player character. As a player I was so taken aback by what just happened in game that I nearly wanted to throw my ME3 box at the screen and swear never to play the game again. That was until I realized that I have a previously saved game (which was saved sometime back.) Then I went through the whole mission again just to save Tali this time around.
I never realized that a game could bring out such emotions in a gamer. And this is the one thing that I feel is somewhat lacking in GW2. There is simply very little “feeling,” in this game for the world around you, the NPCs you are supposed to be helping and the world you are supposed to be defending.

Wow that is troubling. I had the paragon option at that point that allowed the Geth to obtain sentience of Legion (but losing Legion’s personality in the process) which allowed for the Geth to work in harmony with the Quarians. So, much better. In some ways the ME paragon options do away with the tough choices, which has its pluses and minuses. In your shoes I don’t know what I would have done, probably side with the Geth as I’m not a proponent of carbon chauvinism.

I think doing LI would make the personal story or world, well more personal. I played Dragon Age Origins to death and back because I was way invested to my characters. It doesn’t have to be raunchy, kissing, all that junk. Something tastefull is all that is needed.

I think part of the lack of connection in this game is a side-effect of the branching storyline. Characters are picked up and then dropped because you’ve moved onto another branch. You don’t get enough time investment with most of them to see any development at all.

I don’t think you have to have romance to feel a stronger connection, although it can be a nice addition if done well. Didn’t play ME3, but in Dragon Age 2 my favourite NPCs were Aveline and Varric. Neither were romanceable but they were developed enough and given time enough to feel like good buddies. The game itself had flaws but they did a reasonable job of getting you to feel a connection to at least some of the characters. By contrast, in this game Logan calls me ‘friend’ but it doesn’t feel like there’s any reason why we would be friends after seeing him during a few scant missions.

A dev hinted there might be romance in future in one of the past beta forums and if I remember clearly, it might be based in the home instance. I think that would be best because of the disjointed nature of the branching storyline. You could have more of a sense of continuity that way and it might make the home instance feel more like home, which is lacking at present.

My son told me that there was a feature in GW1 where a player could marry a player.
Is that true?
How did that work?
And will we be able to do that in GW2?
My husband and I play together and thought that sounded cool.

I wonder if your son is thinking of the plot in GW1 where you play matchmaker to two NPCs who eventually become the ancestors of a well known NPC in GW2. That features a wedding scene.

I want Countess Anise. But if she was eligible, I’m sure about 10,000 others would want her too. That would be, erm, extreme polygamy…although didn’t Solomon of the Bible have tons of wives?

Anyway…I’d enjoy seeing romances but they’d have to be done correctly.

In SWTOR, anyone who played a smuggler could marry Risha, for example…all the smugglers thus had their own Risha…maybe a similar solution here?

I would not mind this, as long as it is done reasonably, like in part of the story and not just a "I like you a lot, wanna get together?" "sure" kind of deal.

hope my Sylvari girl could get someone loyal as some of the character from the

Heck I’d love a dueling court mission for the Sylvari romances.
I remember hearing some NPC conversation talk about that and I wondered, “Where the heck is that?! I wanna go see!”

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

I would like something like that too. maybe like "this person looks interested in you, but to earn his/her favor, and win their heart, you have to defeat the other suitors."

Make it really risky that if you lose then you lose that romantic chance with the NPC.

There was at least one couple who had a wedding ceremony in the game but AFAIK there is no in game recognition of marriage.

I must say I was surprised to see a lesbian couple in the game, never saw or heard of any homosexual relationships in the previous game and assumed Anet never considered adding anything of the sort. If they add a romance-npc option there’d better be equality, im just sayin.. haha

While it wouldn’t adversely affect me if it was added without any real consequences for the character, I am not very keen on romance options in games. I feel they often cheapen the writing; a npc should be made interesting and the player invested in them without the possibility of love/marriage/sex. I believe that is harder to achieve and therefor a non-romancable npc that players truly care about is a greater testament to a writer’s skill. When romance drives the story forward it is great and can truly enhance a story, but when it’s added just for romance’s sake, then I can happily do without it.
So I hope that if/when romances get added, it is done well or in a way that it can easily be ignored
