Alright, I’ve been wanting to write this for some time, but haven’t had the chance yet. So, a few weeks ago, I completed the personal story for my Charr engineer. First, I would like to say, I loved how Arah progressed even though fighting the dragons on the small airships was difficult; however, such a challenge I was glad to face and overcome. I was impressed with the design of Zhaitan and the battle that ensued with him. The only quirk I have in that instance was that toward the end when you are tasked to shooting Zhaitan. It felt just a little… too easy. But that is for another post to elaborate on. Let’s move forward to my main point which will need just a bit of background first.

My Charr Engineer, Sharak Iskar, had the story path of his sire was a flame shaman, he was part of the Ash Legion, and that Reeva was the one who survived from the fight with the Duke. As the beginning of my personal story progressed, I really liked the characters in my growing warband. Each of them had a wonderful personality especially Reeva. Each mission I was excited to see what lines of dialogue they would say next. When it came to fetching my sire, I enjoyed it greatly. Later on I decided that he would not be locked up. While he may have been a flame shaman, it was nice to be able to fight with my sire against the Flame Legion. Because of the involvement of my sire, I enjoyed his presence and watched as his road to redemption progressed. But, all of these story elements with my Charr warband and sire, I felt was ended a bit short; however, I had hoped later on I would see them again in another story instance.

So, here I am at the celebration at Fort Trinity. I feel awesome at this point. I have finally pushed through the personal story, and I am seeing the ending of one chapter of many. The celebration was pretty neat, and it was a nice touch to interact with NPC’s that may not have been seen in your personal story. I ran around Fort Trinity for a while with soldiers and officers bowing and saluting me from all of the three orders. It wasn’t until I had explored the instance of Fort Trinity that I realized something critical was missing from this celebration.

My warband and my sire.

I doubled checked the entire fort within the instance, and I could not find them. As a Charr player, this was pretty disappointing. If the warband is so important to Charr society, how come my warband wasn’t present during the celebration? What about my sire? He had been redeemed and had been eternally grateful for helping him. Why couldn’t he come and see his offspring after accomplishing so much?

“Ok…Ok.. Perhaps they couldn’t make it in time.” I told myself. “Perhaps, back at my home instance they will recognize my accomplishments.”

So, off I went to the home Charr instance. I tried talking to a few NPC’s just to see if there was a change, but they responded the same as before completing the personal story. I found Reeva and she didn’t recognize my recent endeavors. In fact, she didn’t even have a dialogue option. She would just spit out the normal responses similar to other NPC’s who do not have a dialogue option. I went to my sire and he did the same exact thing. At this point, I had lost all hope of my warband or sire having any type of prompt to recognize of my recent victory against Zhaitan. I tried one more thing that perhaps would see some change. I went to the Ash Legion Tribune Quarters to go speak to Torga Desertgrave and Sicaea the Shrouded. But alas… They did not have any dialogue pertaining the defeat of Zhaitan.

Something needs to be done about this. It can be something as simple as a few lines of dialogue for Reeva and the sire, or it could be elaborate enough for them (and the rest of the warband) to be present in the celebration with multiple lines of dialogue/interaction. There was such a big push surrounding my character’s warband that it felt out of place to leave it hanging once you move onto choosing the three orders. If this was to be fixed, the experience for Charr characters, in my opinion, would be complete. All of you folks at Anet have done such a good job of getting in the small details, but this one seemed to have been overlooked.

By writing this post now, I know that even if this was to be fixed and if I was given a chance to return and experience these fixes, it wouldn’t be the same as it would have been in that moment. Instead, I write this so as to give current and future Charr players a chance for a more complete experience. I also write this to hopefully prevent this from happening in future expansions. I loved the Charr story line, and I hope I see more in the future. I thank you Anet for doing the work you have done with the Charr, I just ask that you consider to fix this flaw.

Thank you for your time

This is not a situation unique to the Charr. For a game otherwise so lovingly crafted its really strange how the story stuff feels like it needed another round of voice acting and 2-3 months of hard work before release.
