I’m kind of an alt-aholic, so apart from my 28 Elementalist I’ve just got a slew of level 3-13 characters. I’m also really into story and general aesthetic stuff, so I’m as much interested in sampling different voice actors and stories as different classes. I also like going against type sometimes, although things that don’t seem physically possible kind of drive me nuts. Like, OK, spinning with a greatsword. Stretches the suspension of disbelief a little. But a 100-pound woman spinning with a greatsword? :/

My current characters are:

28 Male Human Noble/Seraph Sister/Melandru Elementalist – definitely a keeper

13 Male Charr Iron/Dinky/Shaman Engineer – pretty certainly a keeper; this was an attempt to go off-type, before I’d played more than an hour of GW2 :p

13 Female Norn Strength/Bear/Blacked Out Warrior – Like her aesthetically, but the Norn dialogue is generally terrible; not even Commander Ivanova can salvage it (although the Sons of Svanir seem like a pretty legitimate antagonist faction)

8 Male Human Streets/Parents/Grenth Guardian – not to happy with having a second human male (more on that below)

8 Female Asura Synergetics/Golem/Zinga Mesmer – like the race/VA/story so far, ambivalent on the class

6 Male Norn Wisdom/Raven/Fight Necromancer – love him aesthetically, pleasant voice acting, atrocious dialogue

3 Female Charr Ash/Gladium/Reeva Thief – not too fond of the class at this point; I do love that female Charr are as legit as they are

Out of these, I’m disliking the second male Human, since I thought maybe the kind if irritating wise-guy schtick would be based on having chosen Noble, so having two casual snarkers running around is getting annoying. I’m also really hating the dialogue in the Norn stories, but maybe the long-term payoff of looking like a totally boss off-type Necromancer is worth the pain. While I appreciate having a large, (semi-)burly female body to work with for the warrior, more Norn-ness is really a drag.

You’ll notice there’s no Sylvari on the list. This is for two reasons: at first brush they seem really uninspired, but browsing here makes me think I’m missing out by not rolling one. The second reason is for some reason the female Sylvari run just bugs the crap out of me. They have kind of a flailing “knock-knee” run, which comes off as very immature. Although I guess they’re all technically infants.

So, the question is this: do some of these get better, on account of dialogue/story/character/voice acting, or do they just drive you so crazy that you think I should get rid of them? If so, which are weakest? And is there anything I should consider replacing them with, by virtue of story/voice acting/general badassery? The top candidates for the chopping block are the Human Male Guardian and the Charr Thief. I’d probably grab another Asura (Male Ranger?), and make a new male Sylvari Guardian, although I’d lament not having a female Charr.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Warnings? I’m all ears. And thanks for reading!

Charr storylines are all amazing. They’re both funny, and kitten at the same time. I really liked the Human poor storyline as well; was very gritty and seedy for how ‘safe’ Divinity’s Reach usually feels. That said I enjoyed the Human noble storyline as well, even if the whole ‘missing sister’ quest bit was extremely short. Norn storyline is much better as a male Norn imo…the female Norn voice just sounds bored / dead inside. Can’t say about the Asura or Sylvari, both races disinterest me something fierce.

The long term payoff for the norn stories is that by the level 30 part you are done with them, unless you choose Vigil, and then you get stuck with a Norn sidekick for another 20 levels…

That’s it.

Charr storylines are yes, ALL amazing.

Human is good in the commoner and peasant lines. And missing sister even lets you fight a GW1 villain that is supposed to not exist anymore… :P

Asura is… well despite being the arrogant race they’re not all that bad, but not exciting either.

Sylvarri I was so unimpressed with I had to force myself not to delete my engineer… having already deleting earlier attempts, and it being my 8th character. But after enough levels it wasn’t so bad. The ‘White Stag’ option at least didn’t feel like some plant-romance-novel…
