Guild Wars 2

I just noticed that the green knight’s name was Bercilak. Well, I happen to be reading "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight right now, and the name of the green knight in that story is Bertilak. Unless this is just some kind of uncanny coincidence, could it be a reference to the Sir Gawain story (that would be amazing if it was)?

P.S. I would wager that it most likely is, since the sylvari seem to have strong ties to Arthurian legends.

It’s got to be a direct shout-out. I doubt the devs would have been able to get the level of Arthurian nuance that the sylvari have without really digging into the legends.

Hey, I found this post googling to find out if it was a reference to the story as well. Another similarity is the guild wars character “Gairwen” which is similar to Gawain? It also states in the wiki “Bercilak is a reference to a character from the Middle English romance, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The Green Knight in said story is garbed in green armor, seemingly immortal, and has the same name (though the name has varying spellings and pronunciations).” I really like references like this

Pretty much the Sylvari race is full of these references, if you notice them. Their names are pretty Arthurian, in general.
