Sylvari Storyline, bug or intended issue.
when i saw Traeherne again on Claw Island my charecter was like: Traeherne! its been along time. and he aproach the Pale Tree as “mother” when he meets up with her after Claw Islands events.
Flowers will never grow

As SunRain said, that happened to me on claw island, but then the shot closed and loaded again to do what you just said, so it went a little like this:
Traeherne! Hi there! <insert idle chit-chat catching up, was kind of awesome>
Cutscene ends
new cutscene starts before I even get to move
Hello Crusader, I’d like to introduce a good friend of mine – Traeherne.
Traeherne THEN introduces himself and the sylvari as if we’d never met and I wasn’t a member of his race – but we had a nice catch-up session mere seconds earlier? I was literally asking what on earth was going on in my story here, it felt like I’d bugged and seen two seperate storylines…
The difficulty here is where the Race specific and then global storylines merge. Not to spoil it but at some point all our stories become the same. The smoothness of the transition may have some rough edges.
Sure it would have been nice to keep it more personal and race oriented all the way to the end, but that just isn’t logistically possible…or is it?
I think it seems a bit more disconnected coming from the Sylvari line, because there is more of a connection to Caith and Traherne and others at the beginning. And then that familiarity dissapears.
I found it odd that Caithe virtually disappeared from my storyline until the end…
Similarly, equiping a legendary weapon does not make you a legend.

Yep. From Claw Island onwards, I’m no longer a Sylvari. I’m a “stranger”, of a different group, as if I was born on a different pale tree. I’m a friend of his, as the mother addressed me, and so on.
However, I disagree that it isn’t logistically possible. It is logistically possible, they already did it with the rest of the game to begin with. It’s just that, it appears that because the Sylvari was the last race they developed or put their minds into (I remember reading somewhere that they changed it from one concept and story to another before revealing it completely to us), and with the deadline (they do have a deadline), they didn’t have time to sync the rest of the personal stories to the sylvari race.
So I hope they’ll release a patch down the road to add these sync’ing that is needed so future sylvari players won’t get confused and feel “wth just happened? You don’t know me anymore?” which was what I exactly felt.
With that, I hope they’ll say something that they’ll release such a patch, that way I’ll reserve my other sylvari character for that ‘correction’.
Actually i didn’t have that thought at that scene. I thought of course, the other guy doesn’t know i’ve met Trahearne before, and Trahearne introduces himself to the others around me as well. Somehow that wasn’t an issue to me.
I did feel some discrepancy though between how Trahearne is regarded by everyone compared to my part in the story (i’m the commander and leave the battle to go save one asura, really?), while at some point suddenly someone tells me my name is chanted during wars by all races. And no modesty or surprise from my character’s part on that either, not even a response. That’s so not me. Some more character dept would be nice at that point. So yea, maybe Anet could tie some loose ends and polish some steps here and there.
But uh oh how i love(d) Tybalt-the-charr. He made the storyline fun – great dialogues. And squabbling asura everywhere.
All in all, i DID like my storyline and i found some choices really hard to make. Well done, Anet.
So I’d like to see what the devs say about this.
Oh, hi!
…and you need to meet one of it’s leaders, a strange Sylvari known as Traeherne…
Who gets introduced to you as someone you’d have never met, acts as if he’s never met you, and talks about his race as if it was something you wouldn’t know about.
The entire game after the Order storyline feels like Sylvari wasn’t done at the time, so they just get the same lines as everybody else. That’d be fine, but we know far more about this stuff going forward then a human would, so it’s really jarring to have to “meet” Caithe and Traeherne, or “meet” the Pale Tree when we’ve been the Herald of the Sylvari and a good friend to those to for a solid 20-30 levels before that point.
I’m just curious if it’s a bug, or if Sylvari did get written last and this part got forgotten, and if there’s any chance we could get some actual replaced cutscenes or something.
That silly Trahearne. He is intended to remember you, he must have been in one too many battles as of late. Things have been a little crazy in Tyria with the dragons awakening and all.
We’ve got a bug in for that and will get it all sorted out. Players who haven’t met Trahearne should get that sort of reaction, but those who know him get differenet treatment. Thanks for pointing this out to us!

So, is the dialog for the Pale Tree supposed to be altered as well? What about Tegweyn and Carys?
At the very least, I’m glad that this was simply an oversight and not something that was intentionally ignored.

I have now played the Battle of Claw Island as a sylvari who is a member of the Durmand Priory, and Trahearne indeed recognized me and greeted me as an old friend.
However, my Priory mentor (Sieran) then proceeded to introduce me to him anyway before continuing the talk with the commander.

I’d still really like an answer to this as well. Such grotesque immersion- and continuity-killers should never have slipped through testing. Past friends and our very own “mother” treating us like strangers needs to be fixed.
