THoughts on the Gw2 story
I have to disagree that it’s not realistic to ask for a really solid story. Just take a look at Guild Wars 1, it not only offered a whole new universe but also probably one of the best stories of any mmo, it was both enjoyable AND believable. It could have very well been an alternative reality. Factions and Nightfall both improved upon this and both offered amazing stories with a lot of backstory behind it. Only with Eye of the North they missed the mark, but that was more of an afterthought than a fully fledged game.
This is why I am quite disappointed with the story in GW2, simply because of the high level they have set with the depth and uniqueness of GW1’s story. I especially loved how your character is traveling with the group ( Cynn, Eve, Mhenlo, Devona, Aidan, etc. ). Destiny’s Edge feels too forced and misses the sheer character and believability that the classic group had.
Especially the lacking believability makes events feel too random and makes it feels like your character is just gravitating towards them, instead of being part of them. Why should I care about some massive end of the world if I do not care about the characters in it? For example GW1’s pre-searing’s beautiful setting made you care about Ascalon and it’s inhibitants. GW2 failed to do this by making everything disjoined in an attempt to make it personal, in the end it felt too forced.

the thing with the GW2 story that i find dissapointing the most is that there are a lot of things that come up but never get revisited or even mentioned again each thing interesting object just kind of gets thrown under the bus after that one instance where you see them. i also find the story progression is a little to hastened. liek the dicision every 10 levels was just too exact it would have been better imo to have changed the decision quest time for when it was needed the biggest of these would have been to have the 3 orders have a longer story then they actually did.
Agreed, the story is short. I finished the story when my charracter was 20 days old. It was allmost like the leveling in GW2, how that is not the point of the game thats not all of it. Storys should be half of the game, a good portion of it, is missing.
I know they cannot give us a story like LotR, but createing a world and so much lore I can hardly believe they did this with what they have. So many great things could bounce off of this 3D world and exsplode into mountains, jumping off of it into a lake, where krait will eat you alive. Live in Zhaitan’s belly for years fighting off the horrific minions that shouldn’t get out into the world. So many great ideas can come from one creative thing and continue to build it into something awesome.
I should of expected this after reading the books. But I think the story in the books are better than this story and how it was done, in GW2. Yeah im let down, I had alot of hope for the story.
I love the game, so does WoodenPotatoes, I honestly love the storyline and the lore as much as he does but he nails the problems here.

Are you talking about /age (total played) or just that you created the character 20 days ago? If it is 20 days PLAYED, I’m actually pretty impressed that the story lasted for 480h gaming time :P
haha! it was 250 hours, into the game : ) And I did do alot of other things.
Hehe yeah I guess the story itself is something like 20-30h game time.
I agree with Wooden on this one, they really need to make the choices matter and have consequences for them while creating a more seamless entry between story arcs. And really the story arc characters feel more or less inconsequential having them around or not.
