"The Battle of Claw Island" is impossible
you can avoid all the undead and just run to her, they are busy fighting the lionguard anyway, then ignore em again and run back.
Try using your Pet, the NPCs, and any Summons you can get your hands on (such as the Human Racial, Hounds) as a meat shield, and whittle the Risen down as quickly as possible. Avoid NEEDLESS (things that don’t kill that fast) AOE unless you want to aggro more foes than you can handle. Keep in mind though, you often will aggro mid-size mobs, 4 or 5, so Tanking (or invuln, not sure if Ranger has) skills and some form of Swiftness. These will be essential when you get to the later part of the missions when you have to light the beacons. Also, bring some form of Condition removal and dodge effectively to avoid the AOE Poisons you’re going to have to deal with.
In the case where you have to Revive Mira, use your Pet and Summons to distract the foes while you rez, and consider using a Fear skill in conjunction with Tanking skills to give you more time while you ignore the Risen. Or just try to AOE them to death with Barrage and Traps. (For Ranger strategy, you may want to check out the profession Forum page. Those people actually know what Rangers can do)
This mission is VERY HARD when by one’s self, try to see if you can find someone else in Lion’s Arch or in your guild who needs to do it, or just wants a chance to slaughter all those zombies. I spent a very annoying three hours on this mission the first time I tried. I had to get my brother to help me do it, and even then, we got wiped twice.
By the way, what server are you in? I’d be willing to help you if the Fate’s are smiling on me, and you’re in Stormbluff Isle.
Anyway, hope that helps!
Bearer of Tyrion’s Personal Banner, and[BOMB] GvG Officer
I remember that one.
You have to go in repeatedly to heal her body in small amounts at a time if your build is fragile.
Use your allied NPCs to your advantage, getting them to aggro the mobs really helps.
Lv80s: Guard, Thief, Necro. Renewed my Altaholic’s card on the HoT Hype-Train. Choo choo~
I’m on Fort Aspenwood, but I appreciate the offer.
I don’t think Rangers have any skills that fear the enemy (apart from a few pets), and I don’t have a warhorn right now, so I don’t have any non-elite skills that grant swiftness either.
Mira’s death isn’t precisely scripted; she dies wherever she happens to be when she runs out of health. Sometimes this will result in her dying in a spot where it’s indeed impossible to revive her because of the endlessly spawning Risen directly above her.
If you find you are literally unable to get her on her feet, try reloading the mission. When I did this, she died in a much better place and I was able to sneak around the enemies and rez her.
I really hope at some point the devs look into this, so she either dies in the same place each time or the respawns don’t loop endlessly if she’s directly underneath them.
I’m finding it impossible too but for different reasons.
The part where you have to help the Lionguard hold off the invaders in the “green circle” seemingly goes on forever and usually ends with the game crashing to desktop and me having to start the whole thing over again. This has happened about 4 times now and it’s really frustrating.
Yeah I remember this mission. I ran it at the recommended lvl and died once earlier trying to battle everyone not realizing that they were re-spawning, then it was hold off the risen invader in the green circle/courtyard and I fought my butt off dodging and what not and was downed but luckily me rallying and killing off one by stone toss netted me the necessary amount of kills I suppose and it went to cutscene and I got to progress. But yeah, one of the toughest missions I have had so far.
I don’t recall having more than a handful of Risen peeling off from the nearby NPCs to stop me from reviving Mira on any of my playthroughs. As far as I recall, I could kill them, begin the res, and roll away and fight newcomers before going back to the res without too much fear of death.
The mission certainly drops more foes on you than most previous ones and can definitely pose a challenge, especially since your NPC allies are sometimes quite content to watch idly when a swam of Risen zerg you.
However, when playing with some friends doing this story mission on their characters, I couldn’t help but notice how laughably easy it felt with multiple player-characters running around. Perhaps snagging a friend or fellow Claw Island story player may make this a breeze for you.
I personally didn’t find this mission difficult. I pretty much just ran straight to her and everyone ignored me. I rezzed her and we fought our way back with little trouble. Having said that, I could have been lucky with the position where Mira dies.
I was also careful with picking my targets. Occasionally it’d seem like I’d be swarmed with mobs, but they’d be busy fighting random npcs, so I used that as an opportunity to complete whatever objective was assigned. Swiftness skills might help with all the running around, although as a ranger… I don’t know what options you have available to you. I was an ele, so running around wasn’t a problem for me.
Otherwise yeah… I’ve done this mission on two occasions and it was fine. I won’t rule out the possibility that I could have been just really lucky.
If you’re having trouble, ask a friend or guildies to come along and help you out It’ll go by a lot faster, and you won’t have issues. Make sure they’re sufficient level/gear though Even 1 level 80 in exotics will be able to pull you through easily.
I’ve done this 2 times and both times haven’t been an issue, I haven’t been downed or died completely (That I recall, anyway)
I had the chance to redo this mission recently. I found Mira dead right next to a massive respawning bunch of risen. This was the most difficult part, so I had to use quickness and try to revive her with ‘pet’ distractions. I died here but most of her bar was full, so I managed to get her and then just ran straight back to the Fort. I don’t think mobs target her again. She also didn’t fight until later in the story.
After this, the mission is not difficult provided that you follow the objective exactly i.e. never stop to fight unless the objective explicitly says ‘defend x point’ or ‘hold out’ etc. If it says ‘light the beacon’ just literally run straight to the beacon, light it and bail out as fast you can
Most of this mission is about movement, so use passive movement buffs or swiftness.
After doing this three times, I agree with Aiglos. Don’t fight unless you have too. On the walls and courtyard. I went directly to Mira, to the lighthouse and to the boat. Used things to slow them down, block their hits and speed me up. Otherwise it is just too many of them and they spawn too quickly.
I think this is one of those lessons to know when to fight and know when to run.
Hmm. Any tips on doing this with a Sylvari Engineer? We don’t have pets or other summons (other than an Elite racial, which is the only thing to really compete with Supply Drop).
Otherwise I’ll finish the re-gearing I had in progress (newly minted 80, first character :-) and consider a re-trait toward more Vit/Tough. And can you res while under Elixir S effect?
I like to view MMOs through the lazy eye of a Systems Admin, and the critical eye of a
Project Manager. You’ve been warned. ;-)

Elixir U gives quickness I think? So use that to res Mira. Before that I’d probably set up a few turrets as a distraction. They may not last long, but it should be enough time to make enough progress with the res bar so that if you do die, you can respawn and res her without an issue.
or maybe use one of those blindness bombs if you get swarmed… mm
Anyway, after the res, just run straight back to the fort. Do not fight anything.
Speak to that guy. Blow up the ship. There is almost no pressure here
I think you then run back to that guy again. You’ll be asked to light the beacon. I don’t know the best option that engineers have for movement, but you can use the swiftness skill in the medkit and run to the tower. Light it, get back to the centre asap without stopping to fight. You will only encounter an issue if you stop to fight en route.
Take a bit of time to position yourself near allied npcs. Then hold out I guess.
Also take a look at the engineer forum for trait/build advice I guess before you change your specs.
This part was hard for me as well, but I managed to do it by sneaking around to the left with a speed buff. You don’t have to fight the undead, in fact, that’s impossible to recommend as a single player, the risen respawn too fast for one guy to handle.
This is however, a hard mission. It was the only personal story mission where I had lost all of my armor by the end. Unfortunately, this made it impossible for me to take the scene where you beg the war master not to leave seriously.
