I see Tower Down has been mentioned in the forums before as buggy. I just played it during my lunch break. I completed the tasks of destroying the three towers and clearing the beach of undead.

Nothing happened after that. There was no further green star to indicate what to do next. There was no dialogue. There was nothing. I ended up leaving the instance thinking that may help and now it says I have to replay it.

Understandably, I don’t want to waste my time on it until I know it is fixed. Now I’m in the position of being unable to complete my personal story.

As to my information, I’m a level 75 Human Engineer playing on Gate of Madness.

I reported this in the Game Bugs forum as well. For me, yes, the “Clear the beach of undead” step completes and gives you the checkmark, but you’re not given any step after that.

While I’m thinking about it, a few other things I noticed about this, in case it happens to help:

The pack animal (was it a Marmox?) hangs at the top of the ramp and doesn’t actually go down to the third tower. I’m not sure if that’s intentional.

The Wyld Hunt wardens are rather…odd as to their revivability state. The three under the tent aren’t able to be revived until after you revive the one further down the path, then they can be revived and, in fact, will by the time you’re done with the step (presumably because the one you can revive will in turn revive them at some point, as I wasn’t watching them too closely.) I’m not sure why that is.

I’m right now also bugged in the same way @ Tower Down.
To answer Jeffrey question:
Clear the Beach of Undead is marked as completed. There are no further objectives, nor any cutscene. All just waits for something.

BTW this is second time I attempt it and it is second time I’m bugged in the same step.

I completed the task. It was greyed out. There were not any more undead around.

There was no check-mark though. The mission just bugged out. Everybody was alive. The demolitionist just kept saying “hi” and other generic statements.

I’ve had this issue myself when I was attempting this mission. Tried it 3 separate times, first two are as reported “clear beach of undead” was complete, but nothing happened after that. On my third try it appears the NPC’s didn’t bug getting to their indicated locations to start the cutscene and I was able to get through. It appears to be partially an issue with how NPC’s navigate the collapsed tower geometry.

Done it! 3rd time it worked for me
There is supposed to be cutscene right after you kill last undead on the beach.
I don’t know why it didn’t fired the first 2 times. I don’t recall doing something differently.

I’ve tried this three times so far, always ends with the Clear the beach objective showing complete, and no cutscene. Already 80, would love to finish my personal story.

p.s. I’ve submitted a bug each time it has failed and included a screenshot. You should be able to see exactly the state of the quest objectives from that.

Yeah, I noticed this one on run. I’ve pulled this guy out and killed him before the tower goes down and still was unable to complete it.

EDIT: IMO, the key issue here is that the quest objectives complete correctly every time, but the cutscene doesn’t start. A bugged mob (or ten!) should not matter if the logic shows the quest objectives as complete is the same as the logic that advances the quest to cutscene. You could even remove the “Clear the beach” objective, cause you need to do 95% of that just to blow up the 3 towers.

I have the same problem today 18/09/12 i cleared all mobs no mob glitched and the cut scene does not work!! in the last turret the little asura destroy the turret at the moment it gets out of combat, maybe if you kill everything before blowing might work, anyways is a bug and must be repaired.

I’ve done this personal story instance twice tonight (09/19/12) and it’s bugged both times. All my objectives are complete, checked off and greyed out, the Asura engineer is stuck on the beach near where the last tower was located, but no cut scene.

I did notice that in each bugged instance, one or more NPCs didn’t path correctly and got stuck in places in the map. Not sure if the fact that they all aren’t on the beach when the last tower goes down has anything to do with the bug. The first time it was a few Sylvari Wardens, this time it was the pack animal that got caught up the trail on the last leg. These bugged NPCs are stuck in position at the end, the rest of the NPCs follow me around.

I have 3 separate times on different days, completed all parts of the quest and not gotten the cut scene. NPCs are all at the last tower and it is blown up.

Dont know if this thread is still be ing read but this mission has bugged out on me too.

What happened is i managed to bring down the first tower and i clear all the mobs from the second tower, but then all the NPC allies bunch together next to a tree and they do not move. Theres a green star but there’s nothing there.

When I finished this, the beach was cleared and nothing happened(it did mark as complete) until I walked back up the path. About halfway up the cut scene started. I never talked to any NPC directly.

This is bugged for me as well. Tried twice before giving up.
The Pack Marmox keep staying in the back, don’t know if it’s related with the issue. Objectives are all checked.

I was bugged in this quest as well but my friend found a way to work around it in this forum.

For anyone who just want to progress their quest without waiting for the fix, here is the method that work for me.

When you’re in the cave do not follow the NPC but split off and go clear Tower 3 first. (Tonn should be coming with you). After the tower 3 area and the beach is totally clear then head back to the cave and follow the rest of the quest normally.

Hope this method work out for you guys too.

If you don’t want to wait, try this:

At the third tower, there are several spawns of undead. Kill the risen krait last. I think the problem is that one of the beach spawns does some other stuff, and was also part of the “Clear the beach” objective, which is based on killing about 3-4 total spawns, so if you did both at the same time, it would do the “other stuff” and not do the stuff it’s supposed to after the objective is completed.

This worked for me!

I’d attempted this quest about 4 times and /bug’d it in game. This quest is still incredibly buggy though. At multiple points throughout the pathing the pack animal or the soldiers will get stuck on terrain and simply sit there the rest of the quest. When I finally completed it I had only the leader charr and the demolitionist guy still following me, the pack animal, the other soldiers, and all the Wylde Hunt sylvari had gotten stuck in terrain and were just standing around at different points on the map.

Can I suggest that perhaps instead of the “once combat is over sprint back to where we were on the path before combat started” they instead warp there? From what I saw it seemed to be their running back after combat that caused them to clip into terrain and get stuck.

I remember this bugging for me once. But my issue was that I died on the final beach and had to revive. Thus I missed the actual tower explosion.

I assume that’s probably unrelated though.

So, the patch notes mentioned a fix on this mission. I at first thought that this mean the fix that Mr. Vaughn mentioned came in early, but it seems that the step is still bugged in the exact same manner.

The work-around, killing the risen krait last, is more difficult than it sounds because when I tried, the krait rushed at me before the pack down at the tower did, and due to the veteran present my NPC allies killed the krait enemies before I could kill the other risen, again causing the bug to trigger. There any advice to making this mission work, or am I going to have to wait another week?

This story step just bugged out on me as well. I killed all the risen on the last area after the tower went down, but it just stays stuck with no advancement. I thought at first it was a risen who was stuck in a large rock but i was able to kill him through a ranged weapon able to pass through the rock and to it finally killing it. The story still did not advance. I did not know about killing the krait last before hand, so will try next time. Just wanted to put it out there that it is still capable of bugging out though.

Did it by: Killing the 3rd tower mobs first, then going back and planting the stuff at the first and second tower, and returning to the 3rd tower.

What an awful and convoluted way to get around a bug.

Just had this, Got ticked for clear the beach and nothing further, Checked the other bomb sites and 1 mob was just stood there but immune to my attacks but the NPC killed it. Also have 1 under first sites rubble but i can not attack it and NPC ignore it.

I got stuck on this today. (Which after having to do the previous one 4 times before got unbugged version, zomg what a bother!)

I did get the check mark for killing all the beach mobs. I did have one undead that was almost completely immune, like it was stuck in geometry or something, except every 20th or so autoattack would cause damage, so I just stood and 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 til it died.

I double-checked everything, every room, even underwater, and nothing was alive in the zone. I didn’t get downed during the quest at all, neither did my pet, all friendly NPCs were fine except I revived the ones that were already on the hill by tower 3…

Also, not one of the towers was visible until after the bomb went off.

Edit: in case it’s relevant — the mob that was invulnerable, the NPCs ignored except for one of the Charr guys. My pet would have nothing to do with it. But we DID kill it eventually, about 5% of attacks eventually started to hit. But it didn’t fix the bug.

I re-ran it. This time I left the convoy behind and went around to the 3rd tower area and cleared all the mobs before bringing the group in. They joined up for tower 1. The scary part was, of course tower 1 isn’t actually there until after the bomb goes off, and I and a bunch of mobs were fighting where it ended up appearing. I was so afraid we’d get glitched, cuz those were the last few mobs in the whole zone….

Fortunately it didn’t glitch, things worked out and I’m on to the next stage.
