Victory or Death is such a let down :(
Yeah, I ran Arah for the first time last night and had the same feeling – mashing “2” for 5 minutes or so is a really bland way to end the story, and the loot rewards were pretty bad. It’s odd, frankly – there are a lot of great bosses in this game, but the final battle is a huge letdown.
Press (2) to Zhaitan!
I finally did it after all the hassle of trying to find a group to run it with, it turned out to be a 2 hour grind, I fell from an airship once, and fell quite a long way down, LOL, then could’nt see a waypoint to get get myself back, after zooming in and out the map I found one though. Rewards for level 80s doing the run a not good at all, best thing I got was a bow for my ranger trading my token.
Yeah we had 1 person fall off the airship and after 2 minutes of freefall they decided to just waypoint back to us :P
The best I got was the staff off the QM – The skin on it is pretty epic though
But yeah. I was so let down with it
It could be worse.
It could’ve been a Quick Time Event!
Do you even lift, bro?
The first time I ran the dungeon, it bugged out on us. The helicopter that was supposed to come pick us up and drop us off to take out the Risen anti-air never came, opting instead to stay way off in the distance and troll us, causing a few of us to swan-dive off the airship in frustration. It took a half-dozen log-offs and an exit out of the client for us to get the dungeon to reset so we could restart it. Thankfully the helicopter pilot didn’t troll us the second time. -_-
As for the dungeon itself, yeah… I was also disappointed. There wasn’t really any kind of epic reward for completing it; in fact, there was hardly any reward, which probably explains why finding a group for it was so difficult. I expected at least an exotic, or maybe even a title, but no… no such luck. I’ll just have to be content with the knowledge that we drove by Zhaitan and shot him up good. ^^
Then again, as disappointing as it was, at least Trahearne didn’t suddenly appear out of nowhere and claim credit for taking down Zhaitan single-handedly. If the ending cinematic was Trahearne walking into Fort Trinity with Destiny’s Edge, there would’ve been hell to pay!

All I can say is I was not happy at all with not being able to finish my personal story. It seems like Victory or Death is everything I hate about MMOs I am surprised GW switched design methods right at the end. I wonder if this is some sort of payback for the way Bioware ended ME3?
I was wondering what would happen with this but didn’t want to make a thread.
I’m pretty sure ANET said awhile ago Zhaitan was “bugged”. Still waiting on a fix…
Is it even possible atm to do the personal story part? It’s contested. I keep getting killed when i go up? And it is a group event?
WHY?!
I did this run as an Arah story mode run yesterday and not part of my personal quest. So I was wondering if the two are one and the same.
In other words do I have to run Arah story mode again to finish my personal quest line? If so this would really suck.
I finally did it 7 hours ago, pretty disappointing, it had a bit of fun moments and it was cool and I can imagine it a lot better in my head as I always do when the execution is done poorly in the personal story.
Seriously, a book about it would’ve been better. The story was way too weak.
Why the hell did I went through so many kitten and research just to shoot a kitten freaking laser?
What about the dwarven relics and Orr knowledge we gained and people were translating? That never came up again, that’s just kittened up. I’m not even talking about the mechanics of the final battle which where a huge letdown, but about the story itself. The writing wasn’t that good and all the mistery built up on “how to defeat the dragons” and “how each organization is researching and thinking its own way to defeat it” would work out.
Seriously, Kralkatorrik was going to be put TO SLEEP on one of the books, they weren’t able to defeat him, it had so much mistery and it was so much more interesting.
Huge letdown.
Worst of all is that I am a fanboy, so yeah, to me to admit all of this? I don’t even want to think about those who aren’t that found of the lore.
Don’t misunderstand me, I loved the cinematics and the commemoration on the personal story afterwards, I was really moved by the ending soundtrack, it was absurdly awesome, but the dungeon and how the story was handled sucked and sucked hard.
Obs: Another good point people made here: AWFUL loot, UTTERLY awful, except, obviously for the guild influence (could’ve been greater though, kitten we freaking killed Zaithan and commanded the most part of it, for god’s sake). Seriously, freaking greens?

Yes; Zhai-two-two-two-tan was abysmal, a severe disappointment compared to PS of level 1-30, 30-50 aint bad the first time you do it, after that its all the same.
Yes point cannon at zaitan and go make a coffee, dont forget to put something on the 2 key…
I swear …. just finished it myself. EVERYTHING up to Zhaitan was pretty hardcore.
That last fight … /cry … ANet, why’d we get done that dirty? I actually wanted to put my Mesmer boots into Dat Dragon Behind.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
It takes more effort and thought to kill a group of risen than it did to kill Zhaitan. What happened to the bosses of GW1 that would tear apart unprepared groups?
Hell, subject alpha, a failed experiment by one krewe, could probably mop the floor with Zhaitan if there was a way to spawn them in the same room.
They should take the silly 5 man dungeon out of the personal story and make it a live event. Everyone in the area battling a giant Dragon would be epic.
5 man group dungeons aren’t epic. They’re old news.
When are people going to figure out there’s a war going on?
