I’ve been playing the Personal Storyline after neglecting it somewhat recently, and just rekindled the reason as to why I stopped it in the first place; the character’s voice actor is terrible! – Well the male human’s is, anyway.

I literally just cannot sit here and listen to his cliché, arrogant, “heroic” voice any more. It makes me cringe.

I’m not sure if this has been suggested at all in the past, but it just dawned on me that maybe a voice customisation in the character creation section would be nice little feature. I mean we choose the character’s background, profession, hairstyle, eye-colour, facial & cranial structures, even nobility (humans), legion (charr), cycle of the day (sylvari) – It’s all very personal and immersive.

So why not take it one step further and add a voice option, with pitch and speed alters, etc? Or even just something as simple as choosing from 3 different voice actors.

Would love to hear others’ thoughts and opinions on this.

Knowing a thing or two bout voice acting, it is nearly impossible to do it on a full scale level with speed and pitching and still have it sync with the characters lips and bug free.

Having said that, we currently have 10 different voices for characters, maybe bring that number up to like 20 and give you on character selection 7 options to pick from (depending on race and gender).

One quick fix is to customize the pitch of the sound files for voice-acting. I know it’s possible because, for the longest, human mesmer females had a glitch that did it for one of their attacks.

Pitching means playing the recored voice faster. This would mean it goes out of snyc with lip movement and emotes your character makes in cinematics.

I really wish I could change my character’s voice as well. I play a human female as my main and the voice absolutely does not fit the way my character looks. It can be rather annoying. :p I think there should be at least two options for voices, but I doubt anet would implement this feature so late after release.

Yeah I agree. I’ve been playing female human because I cannot stand males voice. I know its Nolan North and he did a great job in Uncharted but holy crap his dialogues in GW2 are terrible. If not that at least give us the option to mute.

While I would love different voice options, I think the best we’ll ever get if we do get somthing is simple pitch, tone, depth, ect,(I know little about sound editing)

I agree though, some of the voices in this game are terrible (Human Male) and some or amazing (Female Sylvari). Yet to even add somthing like 4 different voices for each race/gender (4 because the creation system takes notes from Aion’s) would mean hiring 30 new VA’s to go through the personal story and any future X-pacs with the other Core VAer’s. Thats alot of money, and even though I didn’t help make the game, the cost makes me cringe too lol.

I have 4 human males who are lvl 80 now and , it was nice THE FIRST TIME. Now I’m sick of it. I have 3 more human males I want to level and I got so frustrated that I deleted one and made a charr.

I wouldnt mind it. My human female was origionally a theif with a specific look. But her voice….ugh. I changed her to an engineer with a different look. Now the voice suits her perfect, but I had to change to the voice, not the voice to me.

No, it’s possible to change the pitch without altering the speed. I have a winamp plug-in that can do this. It’s also been done for Phantasy Star Universe.

Pitching options are not as hard to implement.
A different voice acting and dialogs based on your character personality is a completely different beast.
